Tingle first appeared in ''{{s|zeldawiki|The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask}}''. He is seen hovering around on a balloon that Link must shoot down. Once grounded, Tingle will offer to draw a{{iw|zeldawiki|map}} of the area in exchange for {{s|zeldawiki|Rupee}}s, which Tingle claims is "for cheap" because he likes Link and {{iw|zeldawiki|Tatl}}. Tingle ends every conversation with "Tingle, Tingle! Kooloo-Limpah", which are his supposed "magic words". Tingle claims to be a reincarnation of a {{s|zeldawiki|fairy}} and desires to have one, though his father states that he is a delusional 35 year old man. Tingle has reappeared several times throughout the series, and is often considered one of the oddest and most noticeable recurring characters. Tingle is a short character that resembles a middle aged, slightly under-heighted man dressed in a green suit.  Tingle later appeared in ''{{s|zeldawiki|The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages}}'' as a minor role where he will offer Link a few items for finding him. Tingle then appears in ''{{s|zeldawiki|The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker}}'', where he made {{s|zeldawiki|Triforce Charts}} readable by saying his magic words (at the price of 398 rupees). He notably is first seen in a cell in this game and allegedly mistreats his family by forcing them to do labor on his home island. Tingle has made a few more small appearances, notably in ''{{s|zeldawiki|The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures}}'' and ''{{s|zeldawiki|The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap}}'', as well as his likeness appearing in most mainline entries in some form. Tingle has also appeared as the star of his own [[zeldawiki:Tingle (Series)|series of games]] consisting of ''{{iw|zeldawiki|Freshly-Picked Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland}}'', an RPG with gameplay mechanics focused around buying and selling items for Rupees in order to escape to a nirvana known as Rupeeland; ''{{iw|zeldawiki|Ripened Tingle's Balloon Trip of Love}}'', a point and click adventure with dating simulator elements and a plot loosely based on L. Tingle, in his ''Majora's Mask'' design, appears as a stage element in the [[Great Bay]] stage. Similar to his appearances in the actual game, Tingle starts off by floating in the air with his balloon, appearing to draw another map; his balloon can also act as a temporary platform. However, if an attack hits the balloon, or if a player stands too long on it, it will pop, dealing 1% of damage to anyone directly next to it, and sending Tingle back down to the ground. After some time on the ground, Tingle will reinflate his balloon and go back up into the air, to repeat the process.

Tingle can be used like an [[item]] with an [[Action Replay]]. He can only appear on the [[TEST]] stage if an Action Replay is used. As a trophy, his design from this stage is used.

Tingle appears as an [[Assist Trophy]] in ''Brawl'', taking his design from ''The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker'', the only Assist Trophy from the vast ''The Legend of Zelda'' series. Tingle summons random effects while chanting "Tingle! Tingle! Kooloo-limpah!". These effects include:
*Creating a plethora of {{b|Hammer|item}}s & [[Golden Hammer]]s. Note that Hammers and Golden Hammers will appear even if those items are turned off.
*Throws [[Banana Peel]]s in the air, making the whole ground [[slippery]] which results in a lot of [[tripping]]. Note that this also affects the summoner's teammates in a team battle. Characters also automatically trip upon landing.
*Releases lots of flowers, making the camera zoom in on the fighter who summoned him.
*Gives everyone [[Superspicy Curry]] status.
*Flies away releasing a plethora of balloons, no negative effects other than a possible minor distraction to the fighters.

====Tingle camera glitch====
The Tingle camera glitch (discovered by Supergamesiper9) involves the camera getting stuck until the match ends. To perform the glitch, [[Assist Trophy]] and [[Dragoon]] must be on. If Tingle is summoned, he must use the flower effect. Then the other player needs to collect all of the Dragoon parts. Then they need to shoot the player who summoned Tingle (the camera will be zoomed on them), [[KO]]'ing them. The camera will be stuck facing to the right until the match ends.

Tingle also appears an Ace-class [[support spirit]]. He can be [[summon]]ed using the cores of {{h2|List of spirits (Others)|Balloon Fighter}} and {{h2|List of spirits (The Legend of Zelda series)|Fairy Bottle}}.

In [[Adventure Mode: World of Light]], Tingle is presumably one of the countless spirits captured by [[Galeem]] during his takeover of the universe. Tingle's spirit is located in the ribbon hills section of [[The Light Realm]].

Tingle's Spirit Battle uses three {{SSBU|Villager}} puppet fighters, two of which represent his brothers Ankle and Knuckle, and is fought on the [[Great Bay]] stage, which features Tingle as a stage element. He is fought along with the [[Young Link]] puppet fighter. During the battle, the floor becomes slippery and the fighters cannot control their speed, referencing Tingle's Assist Trophy ability to make the floor slippery in previous ''Super Smash Bros.'' games. The Villager puppet fighters also frequently float on balloons and love to taunt, referencing how Tingle and his brothers float with balloons strapped to their backs and perform their strange dances.

*Tingle is one of 5 characters to have been an Assist Trophy in ''Brawl'' and ''Smash 4'', but not in ''Ultimate''. This is likely because of his role as a stage hazard.
**However, other Assist Trophy characters can also appear in the backgrounds of certain stages and will not be summoned if the stage featuring them is selected.  This includes the [[Moon]] which also appears on [[Great Bay]], and [[Knuckles]] who may occasionally appear on [[Green Hill Zone]].
*When Tingle causes the camera to zoom in as an Assist Trophy, flowers appear. This could be a reference to the box art of ''Freshly-Picked Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland'', which depicted Tingle skipping through a woodland forest surrounded by flowers.
