*The title of this event is almost identical to the phrase “the year is 20XX”, a term referring to an unspecified date in the 21st century, which has become a meme among many gaming communities, including ''[[Super Smash Bros. Melee]]''.
*[[Hero#Dragon Quest VIII|Eight]] and the female [[Pokémon Trainer]] were the only playable characters at the time who originated in the 2000s but were not present in the event, due to them being alternate costumes for [[Hero (SSBU)|the Luminary]] and the male Pokémon Trainer, respectively.
**The [[Koopalings]] and [[Alph]], however, can be selected as alternate costumes for {{SSBU|Bowser Jr.}} and {{SSBU|Olimar}}, which would break the theme as they debuted in the 1980s and 2010s respectively.
*[[Living Room]] is the only stage from a 2000s game not present in the event. Although it is specifically based off of ''{{s|wikipedia|Nintendogs + Cats}}'', released in 2011, the general concept first appeared in the original ''{{s|wikipedia|Nintendogs}}'', released in 2005.
