I think with the way air dodging works in Brawl this statement is rendered incorrect, so I've corrected it to say in the original and melee Ike's Best Buddy/ Bird Of PreyDon't try me

Duration?
Does anyone know how many frames the invincibility lasts for? That information could be useful... 64.221.210.35 19:16, November 10, 2009 (UTC)
::-It's different for each character. This would indeed be useful info. -Zixor (talk) 13:26, November 18, 2009 (UTC)
In Brawl, some characters sidestep will not let you slide forward, like Ganondorf, of Pit. But it will work on characters like Mario or Luigi. Smashdude10 10:17, 26 January 2014 (EST)
Rename?
I think it would be best to just rename this page to "Spotdodge". No one uses the official name much like no one uses "ukemi" for teching or "strong" for tilts. And we do have that policy that "We are not official", yet we still insist on using mostly official names. Quillion (talk) 14:12, 13 January 2015 (EST)

:Strong support. You don't do a sidestepping, You do a sidestep. Also, Remember the Dash vs. Dashing scenario? == One Extra Frame? ==
On KH in Smash 4, most of the characters have one extra frame of animation for their sidestep compared to this list. The only ones that don't are Corrin and Bayonetta, which are the same, and that's what is making me suspicious. Should I go ahead and make the changes? Gold 15:00, 11 April 2016 (EDT)
:The difference is that KH lists the first actionable frame (FAF) of the sidesteps, whereas this article lists the frames they take before an action is possible. This is also the case for rolls and air dodges. You can change it to the former if you want, though, as seeing how KH and specific attack articles in this wiki (like this one) use FAF/interruptibility, it might be more comfortable that way. ::The chart was outdated anyway, so I adjusted the values and used total instead of FAF. Gold 16:32, 11 April 2016 (EDT)

Strong support. Spotdodge and its variants are used far more in my experience than sidestep is. ::Strong support. Spotdodge is so much more common than "sidestep". Corrin Fan, can you say why you think it is perfect the way it is? That is not a very good reason by itself without an explanation. PikaSamus (talk) 14:04, 20 November 2018 (EST)
Strong oppose I hardly ever hear anyone say spotdodge. There are three things going for sidestep though: 1. It’s official. I know SmashWiki isn’t official, but sidestep is just as widely used, so it’s not a tech/ukemi situation. 2. The action the characters perform is, in and of itself, sidestepping out of the way of an attack. Spotdodge just doesn’t make sense. 3. Spotdodge is just plain awkward to say. Sidestep is an actual word that feels natural to say. I rest my case. 72.133.91.93 15:53, 20 November 2018 (EST)Blueflame105
:Spotdodge makes sense because you are dodging at your current spot, without moving left or right. PikaSamus (talk) 16:35, 20 November 2018 (EST)
Why do we want it to be moved to spotdodge it's fine here Sammybambam11 (talk) 12:59, 21 November 2018 (EST)
Strong support Prior to seeing this article, I've never heard or seen anyone in the community ever call it a "sidestep". Spotdodge is and will most likely always be the most common term. Pokebub (talk) 13:28, 21 November 2018 (EST)
Replying to Sammybambam11: I want this page moved because spotdodge is significantly more common than sidestep. Quoting Project:What SmashWiki is not:

We are not required to abide by official terms or stances. Unofficial vocabulary will always be a large part of the Smash Bros. series; using an uncommon official term over a well-known unofficial term is generally frowned upon, and claiming a specific term is the right term because it's official is usually an invalid argument in a debate.

As spotdodge is the well known term and sidestep is very uncommon, it only makes sense to move this page. PikaSamus (talk) 15:10, 27 November 2018 (EST)
