I have version 1.2, and it works for me.

Simply put, exploiting glitches is my favorite thing to do in video games. And this glitch is definitely one of my favorites. That being said, I was screwing around with it, and decided to do the one player method with two controllers. Neither controller had a character. (I was trying to see if Crazy Hand could show up or something.) The result was...interesting, to say the least.

What happened was only Master Hand (in port 3) showed up, even though both Players 3 and 4 showed the Master Hand icon. With some more testing, I found it to be somewhat of a loophole regarding something on the page itself:

It could be that both are simultaneously controlled by port 3, and their hitboxes are colliding (as Nyargle theorized).
