Stone (ストーン, Stone), is Kirby's down special move.

Overview
Stone is Kirby's Down B special move.  Kirby transforms into a rock, becoming impervious to damage for a short time. Kirby can still be taken out of Stone form by grabs or grab-type moves such as Yoshi's Egg Lay or Lucario's Force Palm. He can deal damage by using the move in mid air and falling on opponents. When this is done, Stone does excellent knockback, making it useful for avoiding juggling.
Kirby transforms into a rock, becoming impervious to damage and knockback for a short time, and quickly falls straight down. Kirby can still be knocked out of Stone form by grabs or grab-type moves such as Yoshi's Egg Lay or Lucario's Force Palm. The transformation lasts for approximately 3 seconds, but the player can press the special button to end it early. While in this form, he will slide down sloped surfaces.

Offensively, Kirby can deal damage by using the move in midair and falling on opponents. When Stone is landed, it does excellent knockback, KOing most characters reliably under 150%; however, the move is rather situational as it is highly telegraphed and slow, making it a poor choice in most situations.
Although he cannot be harmed while stone, he can still be grabbed, so it's best to end the transformation early by pressing the B button again.

In the first two games, Stone does no damage at all if used on the ground. In Super Smash Bros. Brawl and onward, however, the attack produces a shockwave on Kirby's sides, dealing 14% damage with horizontal knockback. When Stone is used on the ground, Stone will only hit with the shockwave no matter where the opponent is, but Kirby solidifies many frames quicker (compared to an air drop). Otherwise, all falling sweetspot versions of Stone deal 18% damage (except in Smash 64 where it deals 20%).
In Super Smash Bros., Kirby can only transform into one type of stone.

In Brawl, the move is more powerful than in Super Smash Bros. Melee, and it pushes characters away from Kirby while active, even if used from the ground. However, Stone is no longer totally impervious starting from this game - if Kirby is hit with an attack that causes at least 30% damage, he will receive full knockback from it, but no damage.
In Super Smash Bros. Melee and Brawl, Kirby can transform into one of the following:

In Super Smash Bros. 4, if Kirby takes 25% or more total damage while petrified, the deciding move will launch Kirby out of the stone, taking half the attack’s normal damage in the process. His custom move versions of Stone absorb less damage.
*The stone that Kirby normally turned into in his games
*A spiked ball
*A 100 ton weight, similar to his 8 ton one from Kirby Super Star
*A garbage block from Panel de Pon
*A Thwomp from Super Mario 64

Instructional quotes
In Brawl, the move is more powerful than Melee, and it pushes characters away, even if used from the ground. However, very strong attacks and hazards are capable of knocking back Kirby out of his Stone form (it will take 30% to break him out of this form), such as the cars on the Onett stage, though he won't take any damage.

Appearance
In Super Smash Bros., Kirby can only transform into one type of stone, the original Stone debuting in Kirby's Adventure. Since Super Smash Bros. Melee, however, Kirby will randomly transform into one of the following objects, all having the same properties:

*The pink stone that Kirby normally turns into in his games. Super Smash Bros. made the stone form an original orange color instead of the usual pink.
*A spiked ball.
*A 100 ton weight, similar to the 8 ton weight from Kirby Super Star.
*Lip's garbage block from Panel de Pon. The size Kirby uses in this form doesn't match any of the possible sizes the garbage blocks could have in Panel de Pon, and the block being pink instead of the original dark red color.
*A Thwomp. In Melee and Brawl, it has its design from supermariowiki, mariowiki, and the first six mariowiki games; in Super Smash Bros. 4 and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the Thwomp has the original design introduced in mariowiki, used since mariowiki
*Exclusive to Ultimate, a zeldawiki from The Legend of Zelda series. It uses the design from zeldawikis in zeldawiki.

Glitch
In Brawl, there exists a glitch known as the Earthquake Glitch, which makes Kirby rapidly vibrate in place, producing hitboxes around him. This is achieved by using Stone on a downwards right facing platform that bends down at a 45° angle. It can be performed on both Stage Builder stages and the PictoChat stage, and while fighting Porky in Boss Battles mode, but it is generally attributed to PictoChat.

Customization
Special Move customization was added in Super Smash Bros. 4. These are the variations:

# Stone: Default.
# Grounding Stone: Bury opponents upon landing, but takes longer to transform. Using the move on the ground won't bury foes at all. Kirby (SSB4)/Down special/Custom 1
# Meteor Stone: Foes will be meteor smashed when hit. Kirby will also be popped a small distance upwards if he is on the ground and can't transform back to normal as quickly as his other down specials. Kirby (SSB4)/Down special/Custom 2

Origin
The move is one of Kirby's copy abilities from Kirby's Adventure, behaving in much the same way. Kirby Super Star introduced the ability for Kirby to transform into various other stone objects including a rarely seen golden statue of Mario or Samus. It seems that games before Kirby Super Star it doesn't slide on sloped areas. Games after and Kirby Super Star put in the sliding mechanic as Stone Kirby.
wikirby is one of Kirby's Copy Abilities that originated in wikirby, behaving in much the same way. wikirby introduced the detail of randomizing the transformations to various other types of objects, including a rare golden statue of Mario or Samus, as well as the mechanic of Kirby sliding down slopes while in this form. Kirby can attack while sliding down slopes in Stone form, but he cannot do this in Smash Bros. There are other minor differences between the way Stone functions in the Kirby games and in Smash Bros.: in the Kirby games Kirby can stay in Stone form indefinitely and cannot be knocked out of it through regular means; in Smash Bros. Kirby can only stay in Stone form for a limited amount of time, and can be knocked out of it with grabs or sufficient damage.

Trivia
*In Brawl, it can be tested in Boss Battle Mode and SSE that Kirby never automatically turns back into his normal form while being in his Stone form in midair, or at least for a very long time. However, in normal Group Brawls, this will hardly be useful.
*There is a glitch associated with this attack on the PictoChat stage, widely known as the Earthquake Glitch. If you go to the very edge on the right-hand side and use the Stone move, Kirby will create shockwaves that cause massive damage (this does not work on the left side, as Kirby will slide off the platform).
*Kirby's stone attack can be used to avoid some final smashes, such as Ganondorf's, without taking any damage. However, he takes full knockback. This technique is unreliable against some characters Final Smashes, such as Marth's, due to the high knockback received from the attack.
*Kirby's stone attack can also be used to avoid some explosives, however, he will take full knockback. For example, a Bob-omb will knock him out of his stone form while giving him knockback, but no damage will be taken.
*Because he is invincible while performing it, the Stone attack allows Kirby to attack a foe wielding the Hammer Item, allowing one to potentially turn the weapon into a disadvantage.
*Kirby (SSBM) in Super Smash Bros MELEE (of which he can turn into a Stone-like in SSB64, a 100 Ton Weight, a Garbage Block, and a Thwomp) even did it to Team Jigglypuff (Stage 8: Team Battle- the 8th stage on Classic in Super Smash Bros MELEE) and he did it repeatedly.
*Kirby (SSBM) could not get to Giga Bowser in Adventure on Very Hard Mode because with three remaining lives (after having two of his five lives take out of his hand) he kept doing the Stone attack on Giant Bowser on Stage 12: Final Destination. Although he actually got to Giga Bowser on Normal and Hard Mode. But on Very Hard Mode, he used no continues except he did not get to Giga Bowser because it took him a long time to defeat Giant Bowser.
*Kirby (SSBM) in Adventure on Normal and Very Hard Mode will keep trying to use his Stone attack on Giga Bowser and his catchphrase always is "WHY CAN GIGA BOWSER NOT EVER BE INHALED BY ME-KIRBY!?"
*When Kirby (SSBM) said (imitating the announcer)in Classic on Very Hard Mode "Stage 8: Versus Team Jigglypuff!" (Just when he was at Stage 8: Team Battle- the 8th stage in Classic) and he said "at Pokemon Stadium. A fitting battle! Puffball-Kirby versus Puff-Jigglypuff!" And then he started to use the Stone attack on Team Jigglypuff. And so far, he kept all five lives, until Team Jigglypuff took out 1 of his 5 lives and Kirby said "OH SHIT! I just lost a stock! I once used to have 5 lives, but I lost 1 of my stock so now I have four left". Then he kept doing the Stone attack repeatedly every time Team Jigglypuff got to high damage- usually 50% Damage or more.

Trivia
*In Brawl and Smash 4, it can be seen in Boss Battles Mode, SSE and via an exploit that enables infinite height that Kirby never automatically turns back into his normal form while being in his Stone form in midair. However, this has no practical use in normal play.
**In Melee, Kirby has a 3 second limit on Stone while in the air and it resets when he hits the ground. However, this is not usually encountered in normal play because Kirby will usually land or SD before the 3 seconds are up.
*If a cinematic Final Smash is used on Kirby in Stone form, it will not work.
*If it triggers Witch Time, the clock is invisible until Kirby changes back.
