Starmie (スターミー, Starmie) is a creature in the Pokémon media franchise. It appears as a Poké Ball Pokémon in Super Smash Bros., but in subsequent games it was replaced by its pre-evolved form, Staryu.
Starmie (Japanese: スターミー, Sutāmī) is a fictional creature in the Pokémon media franchise. In subsequent Super Smash Bros. games from Super Smash Bros. Melee onwards, Starmie was replaced by its pre-evolved form, Staryu.

Origin
Starmie is a Water/Psychic-type Pokémon introduced in bulbapedia, and is categorized within the Pokédex at #121 as the "Mysterious Pokémon". It evolves from Staryu by using a Water Stone, and it is bulbapedia's signature Pokémon both in the games and the animated series.

bulbapedia is a special Normal-type move with 60 base power and perfect accuracy. Starmie can learn it naturally only starting with bulbapedia: in previous games it had to learn it before evolving or using bulbapedia.

Starmie can be summoned in Super Smash Bros. via a Poké Ball. Starmie will levitate around the screen to find another character to attack. Once Starmie stops moving and targets a character, it will begin to use Swift. Starmie will not move once it starts using this move. In this attack, Starmie will shoot a flurry of star-shaped projectiles from its core. These stars will inflict small damage to the opponent, but will trap said opponent, allowing for high overall combo damage. A character can also take damage if they touch Starmie itself, where they will then receive vertical knockback. Starmie's attack cannot harm the summoner.

Trivia
*Starmie is one of two Poké Ball Pokémon to be replaced by a member of their evolution-line in later installments, instead of by another Pokémon that uses the same move. The other being Koffing.
*Starmie was replaced by its pre-evolved form Staryu from Melee onwards, because it was most likely based on bulbapedia from the Pokémon anime. bulbapedia used to have both Pokémon on her team at the time of Smash 64, but she only had Staryu since she had left her Starmie at her gym before Melee was released. Misty also used Staryu more often than Starmie regardless.
