:::Oh, I think you're confusing things here. "Een" is both an article and a word meaning "one". In some cases where you would not be able to distinguish the two, when it means "one", "een" gains accents, resulting in "één". But in the sentence you seem to be trying to construct, "...the one (on the table)", it is distinguishable; you can't say there's a number on the table.
