The Skill parameter has been removed from Smasher infoboxes, and in its place are the new "Best historical ranking" and "Best tournament result" parameters. SmashWiki needs help adding these new parameters to Smasher infoboxes, refer to the guidelines here for what should be included in these new parameters. |
When adding results to Smasher pages, include each tournament's entrant number in addition to the player's placement, and use the {{Trn}} template with the matching game specified. Please also fix old results on Smasher pages that do not abide to this standard. Refer to our Smasher article guidelines to see how results tables should be formatted. |

Riptide was a supermajor for Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, held in Sandusky, Ohio from September 10th-12th, 2021. In addition to Super Smash Bros., the event also ran tournaments for Rivals of Aether and Splatoon 2.
The event was originally intended to be held from September 11th-13th, 2020, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was delayed to the current date.[1] A Project+ event was also planned, but was removed after the team receiving a cease and desist from Nintendo.[2]

Controversy
Following the second day of the tournament, players in the fifth pool noticed that one of the setups was set to .9x knockback, which allegedly affected players such as Scend, ZD, Vintendo, and MRW.[5]
Trivia
- Less than 4 hours after the tournament's announcement, the tournament reached its entrants cap,[6] locking out several notable players including HugS[7], varun[8], and Switch.[9] The speed at which the entrants cap was reached has since spawned a few jokes in the community. The registration from Riptide reopened on June 4th, 2021, with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate entrant cap increasing to 768, Super Smash Bros. Melee increasing to 512, and Project+ increasing to 256 entrants.[10]
- This tournament is the first offline tournament to have 1,000 entrants in a singles event since Frostbite 2020.
- This tournament marks the worst placement for a number of players in an Ultimate tournament:
- yonni placed 9th in Ultimate, tying the highest solo Steve placement at a national with Jake at InfinityCON Tally 2021.
- This tournament marks the first time a Ganondorf and Jigglypuff player placed in top 64 in a supermajor, with Rickles placing 33rd and BassMage placing 49th, respectively.
- This tournament marks iBDW's first Melee major tournament win.
- This tournament marks MkLeo's first Ultimate major tournament win since picking up Joker as a main where he did not use the character at all.
