Super Smash Bros. (tentative title) is an upcoming fighting game for the Nintendo Switch. It was first announced on March 8th, 2018 at the end of the Nintendo Direct released the same day. It was announced to be a Nintendo Switch port of Super Smash Bros. 4.
Trailer
The first teaser trailer was revealed at the end of the Nintendo Direct on March 8th, 2018. It suggests that the Inkling is to be the first revealed newcomer to the game (although this has not yet been explicitly confirmed).
Confirmed elements
Veterans
Other characters appear to be silhouetted, but they are less clear; Knack's horns, Jimmy Neutron's hair, and Master Chief's shoulders are clearly visible.
Other confirmed new elements
- Inkling, with Boy and Girl designs from the original Splatoon, has been confirmed to appear in the game as an Assist Trophy.
- Ridley is for sure getting in this time, I swear.
- Goku
- A Crying Jordan face.
- A story mode, but it's only a love story about Zelda and Falco.
- Daniel Craig will appear as a playable character.
Development
Prior to the initial reveal, Nintendo filed a number of trademarks on November 12th, 2017, notably including a Japanese Super Smash Bros. logo.[1] The logo was compared to the Japanese Super Smash Bros. Melee logo as they were nearly identical in appearance. A Super Smash Bros. title for Nintendo Switch was later officially revealed on March 8th, 2018 via a Nintendo Direct. Shortly after, Masahiro Sakurai, the lead developer for all previous Smash titles, confirmed in a tweet that he had been working on the game "in silence, day after day".[2][3]

Trivia
- This is the first Super Smash Bros. game since the original Super Smash Bros. to not be announced alongside new hardware. Super Smash Bros. Melee was revealed alongside the final retail version of the Nintendo GameCube at E3 2001, Super Smash Bros. Brawl was announced alongside the Wii itself, then-codenamed Revolution at E3 2005, and Super Smash Bros. 4 was announced alongside the Wii U at E3 2011. Moreover, unlike the latter two games, this is the first time since Super Smash Bros. Melee that a Smash Bros. game is not announced years in advance, as Super Smash Bros. Brawl was announced in 2005 and revealed a year later, and Super Smash Bros. 4 was announced in 2011 and revealed two years later, with both releasing in 2008 and 2014 respectively.
- With Super Smash Bros. 4 releasing four years prior, this is the second shortest gap between Smash games; the gap between Super Smash Bros. and Super Smash Bros. Melee was about two years long.
- The revealed logo includes a slim cross going through the word 'SUPER' and the letter 'A'. This is the only Smash logo to do this.
- This is the first Super Smash Bros. game to not feature the involvement of Satoru Iwata, the former global president of Nintendo, who had passed away in July 2015. He had played many key roles throughout the Super Smash Bros. series.
