Mew2King
Mew2King, commonly known as M2K, is an American smasher from Cinnaminson, New Jersey, who currently resides in Orlando, Florida. He has one of the longest competitive careers in Smash, having began competition in 2005. He is widely considered to be the greatest overall Smash player of all time due to his proficiency at nearly every Smash title, which includes being one of Melees Five Gods and being the greatest Brawl player of all-time. His acute chaingrabbing, camping, punishing, and comboing skills, as well as his extremely optimal and technical playstyle, earned him the nickname The Robot.

Mew2King is considered to be one of the greatest Marth players of all time (alongside Ken and Zain) based off his results with the character and his work in developing Marth's metagame, having won multiple majors and consistently placing within Top 8 at the highest ranking events for over 12 years. Prior to his hiatus from the game, he was considered to be one of the two best Marth players in the world (along with Zain), one of the two best Sheik players in the world (along with Plup), and one of best Melee Fox players in the world, leading him to be ranked as high as 3rd on the 2013 SSBMRank; he was last ranked 10th on the 2019 MPGR. In addition, he is considered the best Brawl Meta Knight player of all time, dominating the Brawl scene in the United States for most of its competitive lifespan, and one of the best Smash 4 Cloud players in North America, being ranked 69th on the Smash 4 Panda Global Rankings 100. In Ultimate, he is currently a Pyra and Mythra player.
Mew2King, commonly known as M2K, is an American smasher hailing from New Jersey, who started playing competitively and attending tournaments in 2006 for Melee and 2008 for Brawl. He has worked up a reputation of being one of the best Melee and Brawl players in the world due to his great chaingrabbing, camping, and comboing skills, as well as his extremely technical and intelligent play style, earning him the nickname The Robot, and is widely considered to be the best Melee Sheik and Marth and also one of the best Brawl Meta Knight players in the world. Mew2King was also considered one of the best King Dedede players when he played him shortly after Brawls release (who he still uses along with Falco in MK-banned tournaments). He was ranked 3rd on both the discontinued Smash Panel Power Rankings and SSBPD, was ranked 1st on the discontinued North Atlantic Regional Power Rankings, and is currently ranked 1st and 2nd on the Tristate Melee and Brawl Power Rankings, respectively. He is also ranked 15th on the unfinished Smash 64 ELO Rating, and was voted 3rd best player in 2013 by panelists on the 2013 SSBM Player Rankings.

Mew2King also made many important discoveries about Melee on his own by testing several aspects of the game such as character weight, falling speed, attack knockback, priority, and game physics, and stored this information on SmashBoards as a repository for Melee statistics.
Mew2King made many important discoveries about Melee on his own by testing several aspects of the game. This includes character weight, falling speed, attack knockback, priority, game physics, and so on. He stores this information here as a repository for Melee statistics, which, to this day, many casual and professional Smashers refer to alike for more information about their character's data and inner working.

As of 2024, Mew2King has stepped away from Smash, particularly Melee, citing negativity within the community having effects on his mental state.

As a young teenager, Mew2King was known for his predictable play; his opponents disparaged him as "The Robot". Most of his Melee experience had been against CPU opponents, causing him to struggle in mindgames against other players at local tournaments. As a solitary personality with no practice partners, Mew2King instead turned to mining data and theorycrafting responses. In 2004, he and SuperDoodleMan datamined hitboxes, frame data, knockback physics, and other Melee technical details that are still referenced today.

With his intense dedication to technical play, Mew2King eventually became a dominant force in Melee in 2006.

After Brawls release in 2008, Mew2King continued to play Melee while also honing his skills in Brawl. Despite being stretched thin between two games, he was considered the undisputed best player for Brawl and one of the two best players for Melee alongside Mango during some time from 2008 to mid-2009.

During late 2013, after years of not winning a major Melee tournament, Mew2King went on a winning streak which saw him win The Big House 3 as well as almost every other singles event he entered, taking sets off of players who he had seldom defeated in that recent time, including Mango, Hungrybox, and PPMD. This is commonly referred to as "The Return of the King".

2013-2019: Unto Retirement
Mew2King dabbled in SSB4; however, he was notorious for dropping out of national SSB4 tournaments to focus on Melee, generally if he was sent to losers bracket early in pools. He initially mained Diddy Kong. However, upon the release of update 1.0.6, which heavily nerfed Diddy Kong and removed his notorious "Hoo-Hah" combo, Mew2King was left unable to play Diddy as well as he had before, lamenting that he went from being the second best Diddy Kong player to not even a top 10 Diddy. He tested with multiple characters in the game such as Captain Falcon, Mario, Rosalina & Luma, Mii Brawler, and Donkey Kong attempting to get a new main. Donkey Kong notably got him 3rd at PAX Prime 2015 and 5th at SKTAR 4, leading him to be ranked as a top 5 SSB4 Donkey Kong player on the PGR V3. He popularized the "Ding Dong", a combo involving a cargo up throw into up aerial which can kill at low percentages. Despite his efforts, Mew2King did not feel confident in any character and was doubtful that he would achieve the same success from before the update. He would later go on to say because of this that he was not too fond of SSB4 as a competitive game but thought it was great casually, something he has also said about Smash 64.

Upon the release of Cloud as DLC however, Mew2King recanted his statement, picking the new character up as his main, and now being allowed to once again adopt his signature playstyle. Mew2King has commented that "Cloud makes [him] actually love Smash 4", reflecting in his newfound desire to practice the game heavily and better tournament placings in 2016, leading him to be considered one of the best SSB4 players in North America throughout the year. With Mew2King's resurgence using Cloud, he has taken sets off many top players, the most notable being the #1 and #2 players in the world at the time, ZeRo and Ally.

Mew2King further improved his Melee game in 2016, 3-0ing Armada Smash Summit 2 as well as winning Clutch City Clash and Shine 2016, one of the largest Melee events of all time, as well as other smaller regional tournaments such as Endgame and Apex 2016. He also had one of the most legendary losers' runs in the history of the game at UGC Smash Open: after being knocked into the losers' bracket in round 1 of Winners' bracket by n0ne, he defeated Duck, Mango, Ice, SFAT, n0ne, Leffen, Hungrybox, and Armada before losing to Armada in Set 2 of Grand Finals. Other notable performances in 2016 include 2nd at CEO 2016, 3rd at Smash 'N' Splash 2, WTFox 2 (where he notably 3-0d Hungrybox), and Super Smash Con 2016, and 5th at EVO 2016. In 2017, he defeated Armada and Leffen at Canada Cup 2017, taking home the title. He also won CEO Dreamland, defeating Hungrybox in the process, and took 2nd at Super Smash Con 2017 under Mango. In 2018, M2K took home his first supermajor tournament in almost a decade at Smash Summit 6, where he defeated Armada twice. Later in the year, at Super Smash Con 2018, M2K found himself in yet another Grand Finals against Armada, 3-0ing Hungrybox to reach there. M2K would take Armada to Set 2 Game 10 in what is almost unanimously considered one of the greatest Melee sets of all time. Both players were at near peak performance, but Armada would edge it out to take home his final Melee trophy before retirement. After the release of Ultimate, M2K would focus largely on the new game, essentially "soft-retiring" from Melee. He briefly returned to the Melee scene in October at The Big House 9, defeating iBDW and Hungrybox before falling to Zain and Fiction.

Playing Smash 4 at Get On My Level 2016, Mew2King became the fifth player to take a set off of ZeRo (after Mr. ConCon, Vinnie, Seagull Joe, and Nairo), and the first player to ever defeat ZeRo in a best of 5 set without losing a single game.<!--Sky's Smash 4 Invitational is not included due to both being a launch tournament and taking place before ZeRo's streak.--> Mew2King played Cloud for the whole set, while ZeRo played Diddy Kong game 1, and switched to Sheik for games 2 and 3. He also placed 5th at Shine 2016, defeating Larry Lurr 3-0.

Mew2King is arguably the best defensive player in the world. He has one of the best powershielding abilities among all Smash players, and can effectively bait bad decisions from other players. Mew2King is a very punish-heavy player, and focuses on getting one crucial hit, then converting that hit into a position where he is primed to begin a combo and the opponent has limited options. Once he lands an opening move, he will usually land harsh punishes which tend to lead to a KO, due to his knowledge of character weights and KO percents. These punishes also usually encompass all of the opponent's tech and DI options, making them nearly impossible to escape. He also has arguably the best edgeguarding game, due to his aforementioned superb option coverage, as well as some of the best recovery mix-up tactics.

!Tournament!!Date!!1v1 Placement!!2v2 Placement!!Partner
Mew2King is considered one of the top players on Final Destination; as Marth against fastfallers, he is extremely consistent in chaingrabbing and comboing them from 0% to a KO off of a single conversion, and as Sheik, he can lock down other characters, mostly mid-tiered characters, longer than he could than on stages with platforms. His character choices seem to be stage specific, particularly on the opponent's counterpick; he will usually pick Marth on Final Destination and Fountain of Dreams, Sheik on Dream Land, and Fox or Marth on Pokémon Stadium; he is more flexible on the remaining two stages.

Mew2King, however, has a weaker neutral game compared to other players of his caliber. His neutral game focuses on unorthodox approaches, which he employs to force his opponents into positions where they have limited options, usually reduced down to a 50/50 situation where he can exploit his superior knowledge of character hitboxes. While this strategy works well against Fox and Falco as he only needs one exchange win to convert into a KO, it is not as strong against floaty characters that are more difficult to combo, and can be exploited by clever baits from players of his caliber.

Mew2King is also known for heavily counterpicking in specific matchups, sometimes with disappointing results. For example, he will only play Fox against Jigglypuff, as Fox is technically superior in that matchup, though he has seen mixed results against Hungrybox. He was the first top player to recognize the potential of Snowy, even teaming with him at Dreamhack Denver - a Puff player that Armada and Leffen train with for the Jigglypuff matchup. He will usually play Peach against Ice Climbers at high-level play just because she has a greater advantage against the Climbers than any of his mains, instead of learning the matchup with Marth or Fox, who are considered to also have winning matchups. Because his Peach is not practiced to the same level as his mains, he has lost at least once to almost every notable Ice Climbers player, and has even lost games to Nintendude's Peach and ChuDat's Jigglypuff. Occasionally, Mew2King has counterpicked Jigglypuff in certain games against other Jigglypuff players, such as Mango and Hungrybox, which generally lead to his defeat. He is also known for his use of several low tier characters, and has been considered one of the four best Melee Mewtwo players (alongside Taj, Leffen, and Zoma) and arguably the best Pichu player in the world.

Mew2King tends to struggle to remain composed when losing, particularly when the crowd is cheering for the other player, as seen against aMSa at Kings of Cali 4 and against Armada at EVO 2013. This was especially an issue before the adoption of noise-cancelling headphones at tournaments.

In Brawl, Mew2King possessed an extremely deadly punish game with his Meta Knight, able to exploit small mistakes into a huge advantage for him. To provoke opponents into making mistakes, he would often shark and drift to open holes, but will ensure he will not be too aggressive, lest he be punished by foes that capitalize on overextensions. He implements Shuttle Loop into his recovery often, mixing them up with multiple jumps and all of his other specials. He was also considered to be one of the best King Dedede players shortly after Brawls release, and was known to still use the character along with Falco in tournaments where Meta Knight was banned.

In SSB4, Mew2King was initially a Diddy Kong main, heavily utilizing the character's powerful air game to net several great placings in tournaments, and he was considered one of the best Diddy Kong players in the world in the early metagame. He felt disillusioned by update 1.0.6 and soon adopted Cloud as his main upon his DLC release.
|X.E.S.T.I.C.L.E.||April 19, 2008||2nd||2nd||Velocity

|-align="center"
With his use of Cloud, Mew2King retains his signature defensive playstyle, using Cloud's impressive reach to zone out his opponents while charging his Limit Break gauge, and punishing the opponent's mistakes should they approach him incorrectly. He is notorious for using Cloud's Limit Break specials very liberally, instead of saving them for more opportune moments or retaining Limit Break for the increase in movement stats, to the point he sometimes even garners an early KO with them. Mew2King is also a proponent of taking to the air rather than staying grounded for the majority of the match, and going for off-stage edgeguards, even in spite of Cloud's sub-par recovery without Limit Break.
|Critical Hit 3||July 5, 2008||1st||1st||Velocity

|-align="center"
However, his excessive Limit Charging can leave openings for other characters to either tack on damage, charge their respective special moves, or spawn an item that can completely change the matchup (such as Diddy Kong's Banana Peel). Like in Melee, Mew2King tends to go for risky, yet very rewarding options in certain situations, which may lead to either character or both characters losing a stock, such as in a match at Apex 2016 against Nietono.

Intentional forfeiting, match-throwing, and splitting
{|class="wikitable"
While Mew2King is one of the best players in both Melee and Brawl, he has deliberately forfeited, thrown tournament matches, and split tournament winnings with his opponents on multiple occasions in the past. To attempt to justify these actions in the face of his detractors, who claim that he only plays Smash for financial gain and little else, he often claimed that he was either fatigued, losing interest in the game that day, or prioritizing being a "nice person" over sportsmanship, which many claim he thinks is more important than the integrity of a tournament.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Many instances have been recorded of Mew2King splitting or throwing matches. At MLG D.C. 2010, after losing to Diddy Kong main ADHD in loser's finals, he accepted a $300 compensation from ADHD, which, to this day, he has not received. When MLG found out about this split, they banned both of the players from the 2010 MLG finals under the grounds of "forfeiting or conspiring to manipulate Rankings or Brackets." This event is frequently cited by observers to be one of the most probable reasons why Brawl was dropped from the MLG bracket in the next season. In May of 2011, Mew2King, ADHD, and Anti all received yellow cards under the Unity infraction system for bracket manipulation. This was in response to a situation at KTAR 5, where Mew2King had forfeited to Meta Knight professional Anti in Winners' Semis, defeated Olimar player Dabuz in Losers' Quarters, and then forfeited to ADHD in Losers' Semis, with all of them agreeing to split their winnings afterwards. This messed up the bracket for many players who were actually trying their best. It didn't end here, however: two months later, Mew2King received another infraction- this time a red card- under the Unity infraction system for  "intentional under-performance" against Sade, a female smasher, by choosing Ganondorf and allowing himself to lose in pools at GENESIS 2 after dominating his pool with his usual Meta Knight. After receiving these infractions, Mew2King didn't cause any more major controversies during tournaments for a while, but he was still kept under a hawk's eye in case he would exhibit poor behavior later on.
This section only lists superregionals and above. For a full list tournaments, see Smash Bros. Brawl

Revival of Melee 5 controversy
{|class="wikitable" style="text-align:center"
After a decent length of time without major controversy, Mew2King caused a significant stir-up at Revival of Melee 5. Assuming that Dave's modified stupid rule was in effect, as it was with most other tournaments during that year, he counterpicked Final Destination (a stage he had already won on) for his game 5 against Unknown522 in Winners' Semis, which Unknown agreed to with skepticism. Once M2K won the match, Unknown went to the TO with what happened, and the TO ruled that game 5 was to be replayed - Unknown proceeded to win the replay. During the next match, it was reported on the tournament stream that Mew2King had forfeited from the tournament. After convincing from Hax, Mew2King did show up after a slight delay and played, though with an unusual amount of "button checks" and an extremely pessimistic attitude overall, which delayed the tournament and alienated most of the audience. During the following match in which KirbyKaze threw Winners' Finals halfway through the first game (presumably to give Unknown another fair chance against Mew2King that he was deprived of after the ruling), it was reported that M2K and Unknown had publicly agreed to split, with the two offering KirbyKaze monetary compensation later for the trouble; this only served to drag him into the already-heated situation, and people started blaming KirbyKaze for what happened during the tournament even though he had no role in it. The situation wrapped itself up near the end of the tournament, but the negativity exploded to a climax during Grand Finals, in which Unknown played with a clear losing effort. One of the main points of controversy regarding this situation is whether Mew2King was deliberately trying to cheat and reach Winner's Finals or whether he was legitimately mistaken over the rule, and many consider it to be mostly the TO's fault for forcing the players to replay the match and partly Unknown's fault for not checking the rule until after the game.

Perceived public image
{|class="wikitable" style="text-align:center"
Despite being considered one of the best players at Melee and Brawl, as well as having considerable knowledge about their inner workings, criticism has been leveled against Mew2King's supposed character and personality. Although this behavior has recently died down, Mew2King is known for making large amounts of excuses for why he loses tournament matches, especially ones in Melee, where only a few crucial errors are all it takes to cause a player to lose hundreds of dollars. He often claims that he could have won a certain tournament set, but became too nervous and made mistakes that cost him the match, and claims to suffer from a mental block against players who have had a history of defeating him in tournament, such as Armada and Hungrybox. Many of his fans are repeatedly disappointed by his poor mistakes in tournament matches, then become frustrated when he makes excessive excuses for losing. Mew2King had also threatened that he would quit Smash on multiple occasions, usually after losing an important tournament, which furthers his critics' arguments that he only cares about making money from the game.

In addition to claims that he had "tarnished" the competitive community of Brawl with his infamous bracket splitting and match throwing controversies, players have also claimed that Mew2King acts too immature both inside and outside of the community, and that he does not seriously consider his actions, only further harming the public image of Brawl players. In addition to several unverified claims about his unacceptable conduct at the residences of various Smashers, Mew2King's publicized trip to Japan proved to be a disaster. Mew2King poorly prepared for the trip, only bringing with him $200 in the hopes that he would win considerable money from money matches (which are illegal in Japan), as well as failing to bring any sort of plan to the country or learning about the culture or language. Shortly after spending all his money less than a day in Japan and supposedly losing his cell phone, he later vomited on the futon of professional Japanese smasher Nietono, who had previously arrived at the United States in order to play at Apex 2012.

!Tournament!!Date!!1v1 placement!!2v2 placement!!Partner
Despite these allegations, some have come to Mew2King's defense. It is widely known that Mew2King suffers from an autism-spectrum disorder called wikipedia, which causes the sufferer to have stunted social growth and adaptation (in addition to the technical obsessiveness that is exemplified by his Melee knowledge and testing). As a result of having the disorder, some claim that Mew2King's actions should not always be harshly criticized as he may not have the mental capacity to immediately adapt to certain social situations, or the social awareness and context to identify his actions as inappropriate or inconsiderate. Though the disorder has enough variance that such blanket statements cannot necessarily be assumed, his aforementioned behavior is highly characteristic of Asperger's.  Others also claim that constantly criticizing Mew2King is itself causing the tarnishing of the Brawl community, with the claim that ganging up on Mew2King is itself not acceptablefact.

In spite of these prior controversies, his character has been maturing over time. After being sponsored by CLASH Tournaments, his attitude towards tournaments, with his play and performance, has increased dramatically. Most recently observed were his top 3 placements in all four non-SSB64 Smash events at Apex 2013; additionally, despite his 2nd place finish in Brawl under an opponent he would have usually beaten, his response was very positive and optimistic, and said that he learned to never give up. Many players cite to have a new-found faith or respect for him after air time on CLASH Tournament's stream of Collision VI on January 5th, where he commentated two exhibition sets at the end of the tournament with fellow caster Keitaro.

Controversies
Bracket manipulation controversies
Mew2King has been accused of harming the progression of multiple tournaments in the past, with much of the controversy focusing on three bracket manipulation infractions in Brawl tournaments:
#At MLG DC 2010, after losing to ADHD in the loser's finals, he accepted a $500 compensation from ADHD. In response, MLG banned both players from the 2010 MLG finals under the grounds of "forfeiting or conspiring to manipulate Rankings or Brackets."
#In May of 2011, Mew2King, ADHD, and Anti all received yellow cards under the Unity infraction system for bracket manipulation in response to a situation at KTAR 5. Mew2King had forfeited to Anti in the Winners' Semifinals, defeated Dabuz in Losers' Quarters, then forfeited to ADHD in Losers' Semis. All of the players besides Dabuz agreed to split their winnings afterwards.
#At GENESIS 2 (July, 2011), Mew2King received a red card under the Unity infraction system for "intentional under-performance" by choosing Ganondorf in a pool match against Sade and allowing himself to lose, after dominating the rest of his pool with his usual Meta Knight.

In response to some of these splitting controversies, Mew2King has stated that he was either in a poor mood during the tournament sets, or that he agreed to split because splitting was extremely common at the time, with him believing that splitting money was considered acceptable behaviour; he has stated that he was also not aware that the MLG's ruleset banned splitting.
Revival of Melee 5
After some time without major controversy from bracket manipulation, Mew2King caused a significant stir-up at Revival of Melee 5's Melee singles event. Assuming that Dave's modified stupid rule was in effect, as it was with most other tournaments during that year, he counterpicked Final Destination, a stage he had already won on, for his game 5 against Ryan Ford in Winners' Semis. After M2K won the match, Ford expressed his skepticism to the TO, Alukard, who ruled that game 5 was to be replayed. Ford proceeded to win the replay, leading to the following chain of events:
#Mew2King forfeits from the tournament.
#He later re-enters the tournament after some convincing from Hax.
#KirbyKaze throws Winners' Finals against Ford, and M2K and Ford agree to split publicly.
#Ford refuses to play his main in Grand Finals and M2K wins the tournament, causing backlash from the community.

While this controversy started with Mew2King's mistake in his stage counterpick, it is not considered entirely his fault. Many place the majority of the blame on Alukard for forcing the players to replay the match, and some on Ford for not checking the rule until after the game.

Trivia
Trivia
*Mew2King, being a very technical player, was initially an outspoken critic of Brawl, claiming that it lacked many of the elements that made Melee a fun game to play. Later, he saw Brawl as an opportunity to get ahead of the curve, and began playing it competitively as well.
*Mew2King was initially an outspoken critic of Brawl, claiming that it lacked many of the elements present in Melee, although he later transitioned into being a top professional Brawl player.
*Mew2King, Hungrybox, Armada, Mango, and MkLeo share the distinction of having won more than $200,000 in a select Smash title, with all but MkLeo having done so in Melee.
:*This does not mean that he enjoys Brawl as much as Melee, however; he has recently said that he finds the game extremely boring and dominated by cheap tactics instead of actual skill, frequently citing the Ice Climbers' infinite chain grab as an example, and even going as far as to say the Ice Climbers ruin the game. On The Big House 3's livestream, he stated that he was thinking about quitting Brawl in favor of continuing Melee as well as pursuing the goal of being the best Smash 4 player.
**Mew2King also holds the record for most total money won in Brawl tournaments.
*Mew2King is able to play the majority of the Melee cast, including mid and low tiers, at a high level, exemplifying this by beating Mango in two 26-character battles at Smash the Record, having only had to use five characters the first time, and 15 characters the second time.
*Mew2King is the only "God" of Melee to not hold a positive record over another god.
**Mew2King is also the only god not to have won a tournament with all the other gods present.
*He was featured in the Guinness World Records 2017 Gamer's Edition along with ZeRo for being the player with the Most eSports tournament results (at 339).
*People who triple-main Fox, Sheik and Marth in Melee are sometimes said to "main Mew2King". Smashers who are examples of this are DruggedFox, Ice, AbsentPage, Rudolph, KDJ, Tink, Azen, and Ek.
