'''Fly Amanita''' is an American [[smasher]] who [[main]]s {{SSBM|Ice Climbers}} with a strong Sheik secondary in ''[[Melee]]'', and is considered to be one of the best Ice Climbers players in the world, along with {{Sm|ChuDat}}, {{Sm|Nintendude}}, {{Sm|dizzkidboogie}}, and {{Sm|Wobbles}}. Fly Amanita was formerly ranked 30th on the [[2015 SSBMRank]] and 1st on the [[SoCal Melee Power Rankings]]. He went on hiatus to focus on his math doctorate and has since unofficially retired, citing a lack of interest in competing.

At [[EVO 2014]], Fly Amanita managed to place 7th in ''Melee'' singles. He defeated {{Sm|Ice}} 2-1 and {{Sm|Nintendude}} 2-0 in the winners' quarters pool before losing to {{Sm|Armada}} 0-2, and then defeated {{Sm|Chillin}} 2-0 in the losers' bracket to make into the top 8 bracket from losers'. In losers' top 8, he brought {{Sm|PPMD}} down to the last stock of game 3, but eventually lost 1-2. Fly Amanita's best placing ever was at [[Press Start]] placing 2nd losing 6-0 to {{Sm|Mango}}.

Fly Amanita is also a former member of the ''[[Project M]]'' Backroom, having assisted in the new redesign of the {{PM|Ice Climbers}}. Despite this, he does not use the Ice Climbers in ''Project M'' tournaments, but rather uses {{PM|King Dedede}} instead. He is considered one of the best King Dedede players in the world, and placed 5th at [[Apex 2014]]'s ''Project M'' event using only him. He was formerly ranked 2nd on the SoCal Project M Power Rankings.

==Playstyle==
Fly Amanita has been well-known to not be proficient at [[wobbling]], which somewhat limits his punishes at the highest level. This is because in a tournament setting, he typically cannot react to landing a grab quickly enough and will mess up the wobble timing, whereas he can continue his punish more organically with hand-off combos, which are ironically much more difficult technically than wobbling. However, he will refuse to enter majors that ban wobbling out of principle, notably not attending [[The Big House 4]].

To compensate for this, Fly Amanita developed strong fundamentals and a unique, unusual approach to the Ice Climbers' otherwise lackluster [[neutral game]]. At the beginning of his career, he built his game plan around completely shutting down his opponent's options, but has since developed a more well-rounded playstyle<ref name="Hi, this is Fly Amanita.
