The '''Smash Hall of Fame'''' launched on 1/26/08 with the induction of the first class. Voted on by the [[Smash Back Room]] on [[Smashboards]], the Smash Hall of Fame honors the most influential members of the Smash Bros. community.
The '''Smash Hall of Fame''' was an idea proposed by some members of the [[Smashboards]] community, as to recognise the influence of various smashers and members of the growing ''Smash Bros.'' community. Two incarnations of the Hall of Fame were started in 2008 and 2012, but the idea has failed to become an annual tradition in the ''Smash'' community.


The first class was inducted in December 2008; voted on by members of the [[Smash Back Room]], the inductees consisted of smashers {{Sm|Azen}}, {{Sm|Ken}}, and {{Sm|Isai}}, as well as tournament organisers {{Sm|Gideon}}, {{Sm|M3D}}, and {{Sm|Matt Deezie}}. All members were of American origin, and later induction classes were to feature a wider variety of people from outside of the region. Despite the idea being praised, as well as considerable thought placed into future inductees and the voting procedure, no further inductions took place, and the idea was abandoned.
==Voting Process==


A revival of the Smash Hall of Fame was attempted in 2012, this time featuring ''Brawl'' inductees, as well as adding "Contributors" alongside the smashers and tournament organisers. The second class was taken in 2012, voted on by members of the Brawl Back Room; the final class consisted of smashers {{Sm|ADHD}}, {{Sm|Ally}}, {{Sm|DEHF}}, {{Sm|Gnes}}, and {{Sm|Mew2King}}, tournament organisers {{Sm|Alex Strife}}, {{Sm|AlphaZealot}}, and {{Sm|Xyro}}, and the contributors of {{Sm|Aisight}}, {{Sm|Bionic}}, and {{Sm|GimR}}. While the revival received praise like its previous variant, the idea was once again abandoned.
During the nomination period, members of the Smash Back Room name influential Smashers that deserve consideration. These nominations are tallied, and the top twelve most-nominated move on to the voting period. Out of the twelve nominated, six are chosen to represent that year's class. Nominations and voting for the second class begin in December 2008.

===Eligibility===
 
All Smashers are eligible. Though the Smash Back Room originally considered separate Hall of Fames for tournament hosts, competitive players and general influential members, it was eventually decided to remain with one consolidated program.
 
One unresolved issue is how to treat non-U.S. Smashers. In the future, if the importance of the international Smash communities and their contributing members continue to get overlooked in the nominations, the community as a whole may decide to open international Hall of Fames.
