Onix can be summoned by a [[Poké Ball]], using Rock Throw as its attack. When summoned, Onix leaps to the top of the screen and make boulders fall onto the stage. Onix itself can damage other characters as it rises, and the rocks hit opponents with [[set knockback]]. Onix's attack does not harm the summoner.  Its voice clip used in the Japanese and English versions comes from the ''Pokémon'' anime episode ''Showdown in Pewter City''.
