Meowth (ニャース, Nyarth) is a creature in the Pokémon media franchise.

Origin
Meowth (ニャース, Nyāsu, Nyarth in Japanese language versions) is a fictional creature in the Pokémon media franchise. It is a Pokémon that comes out of a Poké Ball.

Meowth is a Normal-type Pokémon introduced in bulbapedia, and is categorized within the Pokédex at #052 as the "Scratch Cat Pokémon". It evolves into bulbapedia starting at level 28. It and its evolution received Alolan Forms in bulbapedia. It also received a Galarian Form in bulbapedia, in which it evolves into bulbapedia instead. In bulbapedia, a special pre-order Meowth can transform into its bulbapedia form, during which it can use the move bulbapedia. It is easily recognized by the coin on its forehead and is known to collect similar shiny objects. It is especially notable among the general public for being a part of the Team Rocket trio in the Pokémon anime series along with Jessie and James, appearing in almost all of its episodes. In the National Pokédex, it is registered as #052.

bulbapedia is a Normal-type move introduced in Generation I. It has 40 base power, 100% accuracy and the unique property of producing money which can be picked up after each battle. It was originally Meowth's bulbapedia, meaning it was that only Pokémon able to learn it by level, along with Persian, prior to bulbapedia.
Character description
clrl
Meowth is a small oval-headed feline with a brown charm on its head. The Pokédex in the games explain that all a typical Meowth does in the daytime is sleep, and is a nocturnal species. For some reason, it is fascinated by anything that is round and/or shiny, and both its eyes and the charm on its head glow and sparkle when it picks things up. It can't stop itself from picking up things like shiny coins, and it wanders streets on a nightly basis to look for dropped loose change and secretly hoard it. If it gets a round object, it can't stop playing with it until it falls asleep. It withdraws its sharp claws into its paws to sneak about without making any incriminating footsteps.

In Super Smash Bros.
Meowth is one of the original 151 Pokémon that appeared in Pokémon Red & Blue. A player can find a Meowth in the wild in various grass areas. In the advance generation of Pokémon games, Mewoth gained the Pick Up ability which allows Meowth to pick up random items while the trainer is traveling. Meowth's most notable role is in Pokémon anime. Meowth appeared as one of the grunts on Team Rocket. This Meowth is an unique Pokémon as he can talk the human language. Meowth likes to scheme with Team Rocket and causes havoc on Ash and his friends. Meowth is often seen along with Wobbuffet in Pokemon shorts such as the Pokemon Short, Gotta' Dance! Meowth also envies the attention that a Persian receives from his boss Giovanni. Meowth's signature move is Pay Day, the move used by Meowth in all of his appearances.
Based on its prominent role in the Pokémon anime series, which was extremely popular at the time of the original Smash's release, a popular rumor claims Meowth was planned to be playable in the game along with Bowser, King Dedede, Mewtwo, and many other characters, before being cut for space/time constraints. However, unlike the aforementioned three characters, no definitive official source has ever been found that proves Meowth was ever planned to be included as a playable character.

Meowth makes an appearance as a Pokémon that appears out of a Poké Ball in Super Smash Bros. Meowth will use Pay Day as his attack. Meowth will jump in the air, scattering coins in all directions. Any character caught in the radius of this attack will take damage. The attack radius of Pay Day is short so it can be easy to avoid. However, you can become trapped in the barrage of coins. It's possible to take 30% damage in this attack, like that of a Bob-omb. Meowth's attack does not harm the summoner.
Meowth can be summoned by a Poké Ball. It uses Pay Day as its attack: Meowth hovers in the place it was summoned, scattering coins in all directions. Any character caught in the radius of this attack will take damage. When the coins hit characters, they also make Mario-coin sounds. The attack radius of Pay Day is short so it can be easy to avoid, however, fighters can become trapped in the barrage of coins taking up to 50% damage. Meowth can also deal significant damage with its body, which has much higher knockback scaling, so it may KO foes after they are hit with the coins. Meowth's attack does not harm the summoner.

As a trophy
Meowth returns in Super Smash Bros. Melee, but not as a Poké Ball Pokémon. Instead, it has been relegated to a role as a trophy. Meowth's trophy is unlocked after getting the "Smash Blue" trophies (from the All-Star single-player mode) for all 26 playable characters. This is the only game where Meowth isn't a Poké Ball Pokémon.
Meowth returns in Super Smash Bros. Melee but not as a PokéBall Pokémon. Instead, he has been relegated to a role as a trophy. This trophy is unlocked after getting the "Smash Blue" trophies (from the All-Star single-player mode) for all 25 playable characters. Interestingly, his description has nothing to do with his actual behavior in the Pokémon games, but refers to a short animation created to showcase the GameCube's graphics, that was originally going to be a game called Meowth's Party but was canceled. It more so relates to the Meowth in the anime. The trophy description is as follows:

Meowth's trophy is atypical with respect to other Pokémon trophies. Instead of describing its behaviour in the Pokémon series, the trophy instead references bulbapedia, a technical demo designed to demonstrate the GameCube's graphics utilizing the eponymous song which had been the anime's ending theme a few months before. Reflecting this, the trophy depicts Meowth holding the red and white guitar featured from the demo.

At this wonderful party, guests are packed in like sardines as Meowth climbs up the stage with its faithful guitar. It strikes a chord, pauses, and then rocks their world!

Meowth returns to its role as a Poké Ball Pokémon in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, using the same attack it used in Super Smash Bros., but in a slightly different fashion. This time, Meowth throws a barrage of coins left or right in the opponent's direction instead of quickly scattering coins in all directions, though it will turn to face the opponent that is closest to it. In addition, falling from above onto Meowth will cause the victim to be locked into the rush of coins and thus take heavy damage, allowing a maximum of approximately 300% if smash attacks are used on the trapped victim.

|desc-ntsc=Meowth is a Normal-type, Scratch Cat Pokémon who absolutely loves anything shiny. It's a creature of the night, and it's not unusual to discover a Meowth and a Murkrow fighting over their finds. Meowth's attack Pay Day can deal a ton of damage if an opponent gets caught in it. How purrfect!

Trivia
*Meowth is the first of two Poké Ball Pokémon to skip an installment, the other being Scizor.
*Electrode, Meowth, Porygon2, and Unown are the only non-Legendary or Mythical Poké Ball Pokémon to have no spoken voice lines.<!--Do not add any possible reason for why these Pokémon do not have any voice clips. SmashWiki is not speculative. Additionally, do not add the fact that Porygon2 uses its cry from the Pokémon games in Melee, which is completely false-->
**Ironically, despite its Team Rocket anime counterpart being well-known for its ability to talk, Meowth does not vocalize at all in Smash.
