'''Mementos''' ({{ja|メメントス|Mementosu}}, ''Mementos'') is a [[Downloadable content (SSBU)|DLC]] [[stage]] in ''[[Super Smash Bros. Ultimate]]''. It is bundled with {{SSBU|Joker}} in Challenger Pack 1, which is also part of the [[Fighters Pass]]. It was released on April 17th, 2019.

==Stage Overview==
Mementos has one main platform with a slant in the middle, similar to [[Meta Crystal]], with two pass-through platforms over the center and the left side. A third platform with a cracked screen occasionally appears on the right. Trains periodically appear in the background, the set below the stage being able to damage fighters. If a fighter is hit by the front of a train, they will take much more damage than usual, and trigger a [[Special Zoom]] effect. A low ringing sound can be heard when this train is approaching. Occasionally, a large triangle-shaped wall appears at the top or on the sides of the stage. The trains and the walls usually never appear at the same time, though they can appear at the same time when walls appear above the stage.  When players run through the stage, they'll splash purple ink-like liquid with each step.

The stage's main design, based on ''Persona 5'', uses a predominantly red color scheme, with star designs and black-and-white {{s|wikipedia|halftone}} motifs. If a song from ''Persona 4'' or ''Persona 3'' is playing, the stage will change design to reflect the respective game's design motifs. For ''Persona 4'' songs, the color scheme changes to yellow, the floors and background seats are not cracked, the platforms incorporate flowers and checkerboard patterns, and the backdrop includes rainbow-like streaks. For ''Persona 3'' songs, the color scheme changes to blue, the platforms incorporate clocks and triangular patterns, and the backdrop includes a full moon. If [[Joker]] wins a match on this stage, his [[victory pose]] screen and victory music will match Mementos regardless of his team or port settings. Joker's [[Rebellion Gauge]] will also change color to match that of Mementos. If [[Stage Morph]] is on, the victory screen will reflect the most recently visited version of Mementos, defaulting to red if Mementos wasn’t visited in the match.

The [[Morgana]]mobile occasionally appears in the background with a "meow" sound, dropping off the other Phantom Thieves of Hearts. When a fighter is defeated, they will occasionally call out in praise. Their names are as follows;

*[[Ann Takamaki]], codenamed Panther.
*[[Yusuke Kitagawa]], codenamed Fox.
*[[Makoto Niijima]], codenamed Queen.
*[[Haru Okumura]], codenamed Noir.

===Ω form and Battlefield form===
The [[Ω form]] and [[Battlefield form]] is set on a completely flat version of the normal form's main platform that is also resized and reshaped to match {{SSBU|Final Destination}} and {{SSBU|Battlefield}}, respectively. The train still travels in the background periodically, but does not come on the stage, and the platforms in the Battlefield form are based on the one from the main stage. The Morganamobile still brings the other Phantom Thieves of Hearts to the stage. Likewise, changes to aesthetics and Joker's victory screen caused by music selection will still be applied as well.

===Hazards Off===
With hazards off, neither of the floating platforms appear on the right side, the walls and ceilings that periodically appear are removed, and the trains are absent. The Morganamobile still brings the other Phantom Thieves of Hearts to the stage. The stage can still change its theming if ''Persona 3'' or ''Persona 4'' music is played.

==Tournament Legality==
Mementos has often been banned in tournaments, having only occasionally been seen as a counterpick stage. Professionals have noted its relatively neutral layout compared to other new stages introduced in the game, but have also shown concern for its large slope in the middle which can alter or interfere with certain attacks such as [[Gordo Throw]]; the platforms are also very high up, which is greatly disadvantageous to fighters with poor aerial movement and jump height. The stage's relatively large blast zone and geography also disadvantages characters lacking in kill power.

==Origin==

Mementos is a location that is visited several times throughout ''Persona 5''.  Part of the mysterious Metaverse, it is the Palace of the collective unconscious. Located under the subway tunnels of Shibuya, it is lined with train tracks and train platforms that Shadows, the game's enemies, use to traverse the dungeon. As it would be infeasible to traverse the massive dungeon by foot, the shapeshifting [[Morgana]] transforms into a car and has the protagonist drive him when exploring it.

The Phantom Thieves are able to visit Mementos in order to take requests to change the hearts of people whose distortions are not bad enough to cause their own individual Palace to manifest. Exploring Mementos' randomly generated floors also offers the opportunity to gain money and EXP, as well as capture Personas that the player may have missed in a previous Palace. An entrance to the Velvet Room is conveniently located at the entrance to Mementos, allowing a player to summon or fuse new Personas. 

As the Phantom Thieves' notoriety increases and the game progresses, they are able to explore more and more of Mementos. 

Mementos is also revamped in ''Persona 5 Royal'': while it mostly functions the same, a new currency is available in the form of flowers that appear through the dungeon and can be collected by the player, which can be traded for powerful items given to the player by a new character, [https://megamitensei.fandom.com/wiki/Jose Jose]. Alongside the flowers, Jose also hides stamps through the dungeon, which can be found and returned to him by the player. In return, Jose will hit a "pressure point" in Mementos, making the player obtain boosts in EXP and money gain, as well as being able to adquire more items at once. Alongside these new functions, Mementos also gains several new BGMs for lower levels of the dungeon and random events can usually happen in a vein similar to Tartarus in ''Persona 3'', such as the floor becoming completely dark and riddled with hidden Treasure Demons or having the Reaper, a powerful Shadow that only appears after the player spends a long time in a single floor, spawn immediately.

*Occasionally, a platform appears which has a cracked screen on it. This screen shows various images from ''Persona'' games depending on which version of Mementos it is.
**On the ''Persona 5'' version, it shows an animation of [[Morgana]] running, which is the same animation shown in the opening cinematic of ''Persona 5''.
**On the ''Persona 4'' version, it shows an animation of [[Teddie]] inside the TV screen that shows up during the loading screens of '' Persona 4 Golden''.
**On the ''Persona 3'' version, it shows excerpts from the ''Persona 3'' opening movie, as well as an excerpt from the opening movie of ''Persona 3 Portable''.

*The following [[Assist Trophy|Assist Trophies]] cannot appear on this stage: the [[Moon]], [[Andross]], [[Color TV-Game 15]], [[Sheriff]], [[Devil]], [[Nikki]] (due to the dark background obscuring her drawings), [[Arcade Bunny]], [[Wily Capsule]] and [[Rathalos]].
