'''Marx''' ({{ja|マルク|Maruku}}, ''Marx''<!--The name is written in katakana closer to "Mark", but is spelled as "Marx" when romanized in Japanese games.-->) is a character from the {{uv|Kirby}} series, and is the primary antagonist of the {{s|wikirby|Milky Way Wishes}} game in ''[[Kirby Super Star]]''. He appears as a [[boss]] in ''[[Super Smash Bros. Ultimate]]''.

Marx made his debut as a major character in the ''[[Kirby Super Star]]'' game {{s|wikirby|Milky Way Wishes}}. In the game, Marx asks [[Kirby]] to gather the power of surrounding stars to awaken the giant comet, {{s|wikirby|Galactic Nova}} in order to make the sun and moon stop fighting. Once Kirby finds and awakens Nova, Marx appears, knocks Kirby out of the way, and asks Nova for the ability to rule [[wikirby:Popstar|Pop Star]]. Nova grants Marx's wish, causing him to become larger and grow crystal wings. After Kirby defeats him, Marx is sent flying into Nova, with the impact causing them to explode.

Marx appears as the final boss of Milky Way Wishes, and, effectively, of ''Kirby Super Star'' as a whole. He also appears as the final boss of [[wikirby:The Arena#Kirby Super Star/Kirby Super Star Ultra|The Arena]] sub-game. In [[wikirby:The True Arena#Kirby Super Star Ultra|The True Arena]] sub-game from ''{{s|wikirby|Kirby Super Star Ultra}}'',  Marx's unconscious body absorbs the remaining energy from Nova, transforming him into {{s|wikirby|Marx Soul}}.

In addition to these appearances, Marx appears as the final boss in the ''{{s|wikirby|Kirby Mass Attack}}'' sub-game {{s|wikirby|Kirby Brawlball}}, and as both a playable character and a secret boss in ''{{s|wikirby|Kirby Star Allies}}'', being fought during the credits sequence of the ''{{s|wikirby|Heroes in Another Dimension}}'' sub-game.

While Marx himself does not make an appearance, a remix of the theme that plays when fighting him in ''Kirby Super Star'', Vs. Marx, appears in [[List of SSBB Music (Kirby series)#Vs. Marx|''Brawl'']] and [[List of SSB4 Music (Kirby series)#Vs. Marx|''Smash 4'']] as a music track.

In ''Ultimate'', Marx appears as a [[boss]] at the end of {{SSBU|Kirby}}'s, {{SSBU|Rosalina & Luma}}'s, and {{SSBU|Inkling}}'s {{SSBU|Classic Mode}} run,  as well as in [[Adventure Mode: World of Light]]. {{SSBU|Sephiroth}} also faces Marx during his Classic Mode, as with other regular bosses in the game, though in the third round. Normally, {{SSBUMusicLink|Kirby|Vs. Marx}} plays during the battle, but {{SSBUMusicLink|Splatoon|Calamari Inkantation}} plays in Inkling's route, and {{SSBUMusicLink|Super Smash Bros.|Galeem / Dharkon}} plays during the boss rush in the [[Final stage (World of Light)|final stage]]. His voice appears similar to the one heard in ''Kirby Star Allies''. His battle takes place in the [[Mysterious Dimension]], which is in [[The Dark Realm]].

Marx's boss fight starts off with him using the moves that he similarly used against Kirby in ''Kirby Super Star'' (except the arrow attack). When the fighter gets close, he will teleport some distance away from them. Marx has three moves that he didn't have in ''Kirby Super Star'' or ''Kirby Super Star Ultra'': an attack where his eyes turn black and black balls spawn from them, an attack where he creates vein-like growths, and an attack where his eyes enlarge and fire lasers.

Upon defeat, Marx screams and starts flying around the stage sporadically. His wings break off as he reverts to his smaller form and lands face first on the ground. His body also temporarily alights in a purple flame that rises out of him just before the screen fades out.

|4-Way Cutter Attack<br/>({{ja|４方向カッター攻撃|Yon-Hōkō Kattā Kōgeki}})|| ||Sends out four {{iw|wikirby|Cutter}} boomerangs from his body that all circle back to him. At low health, he'll perform this move twice in a row, a reference to when Marx Soul does the attack. The blades can be reflected or eaten. This attack is referred to as '''{{s|wikirby|Shooter Cutter}}''' ({{ja|シューターカッター|Shūtā Kattā}}) in the ''Kirby'' series.

|Extra-Thick Laser<br/>({{ja|極太レーザー|Gokubuto Rēzā}})|| ||Marx teleports to the player's vertical position. He charges up and fires a laser that crosses the entire stage. This attack deals [[darkness]] damage. Can not be [[shield]]ed, but can be [[armor]]ed by attacks such as Kirby's [[Stone]]. This move is referred to as '''Marx Cannon''' ({{ja|マルク砲|Maruku-hō}}) in the ''Kirby'' series.

|Ice Bomb<br/>({{ja|氷爆弾|Kōri Bakudan}})|| ||Floats to the top of the screen and drops a large ice ball. The ice ball explodes into two icy shockwaves when it reaches the player's current vertical position, spreading out horizontally and [[Freeze|freezing]] the player on contact. It can be reflected or eaten. The icy shockwaves can also be absorbed. This move is referred to as '''Ice Bowl''' ({{ja|アイスボウル|Aisu Bōru}}) in the ''Kirby'' series.

|Makai Plant<br/>({{ja|魔界植物|Makai Shokubutsu}})|| ||Flies offscreen and drops five to seven seeds that disappear into the ground. Afterwards, large, thorny vines will grow upward from where the seeds landed. At low health more seeds will fall; they will also fall and grow faster. Unlike in ''Kirby Super Star'' and ''Kirby Super Star Ultra'', shielding the seeds does not destroy them. This move is referred to as '''Seed Attack''' ({{ja|シード攻撃|Shīdo Kōgeki}}) in the ''Kirby'' series.

|Jump Out of the Ground<br/>({{ja|地面飛び出し|Jimen Tobidashi}})|| ||A shadow appears on the ground and follows the player. After a bit of time, the shadow doubles in size and Marx flies out of it. Marx often uses this attack after using another attack that puts him offscreen, doing so more frequently at low health. This move is referred to as '''Shadow Upper''' ({{ja|シャドウアッパー|Shadō Appā}}) in the ''Kirby'' series.

|Black Hole<br/>({{ja|ブラックホール|Burakku Hōru}})|| ||Splits in two, opening a Black Hole that will attempt to absorb the player. If the player gets caught, they will take massive damage and get spiked into the ground. Marx prefaces this attack with three teleports from side to side, until stopping at the exact center of the screen. Marx can be damaged prior to splitting but is intangible afterwards.

|Tracking Eye<br/>({{ja|追尾する目|Tsuibisuru Me}})|| ||Marx's eyes go completely black, then black balls come out of them and start bouncing around the stage, dealing [[darkness]] damage to the player if they hit. At low health, Marx will spawn more black balls, up to 6.

|Capillary Expansion<br/>({{ja|毛細血管展開|Mōsaikekkan Tenkai}})|| ||Moves to the middle of the screen and retracts his wings, where pink, branching appendages resembling blood vessels grow out instead, spreading across the screen and dealing [[Flame|fire]] damage to the player. The attack is vertically mirrored. There are two variations: one in which the appendages fill the center bottom of the screen while leaving the corners untouched and vice-versa.

|Compound Eye Laser<br/>({{ja|複眼レーザー|Fukugan Rēzā}})|| ||Grows large compound eyes that send out multiple laser beams from the eyes. The lasers are evenly spaced from each other but have a random rotation. This attack deals [[electric]] damage. At low health, more lasers will be sent from each eye.

Marx also appears as two different [[primary spirit]]s.

 

Marx can be obtained by defeating the boss in the Mysterious Dimension sub-dungeon in World of Light.

 

Marx (True Form) can be obtained by [[Enhanceable spirit|enhancing]] the Marx spirit at level 99.
