Magicant (マジカント, Magicant) is a stage in for3ds and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. In Smash 3DS, it is where Ness is fought when being unlocked, with the stage being unlocked along with him.
Magicant (Japanese: マジカント Magicant) is a stage in for3ds. It is Ness's home stage, and it is where he is fought when being unlocked. The stage is unlocked along with him.

Stage overview
Origin
The fight takes place in the sky in the clouds above the land of wikibound.

The stage consists of four pink clouds which act as semisoft platforms: a main, large one in the middle, two smaller elevated ones near the sides, and a small one near the bottom.
Magicant is an area in Mother, in which wikibound resides, for whom wikibound collects the wikibound, and exists only in her mind. A similar location of the same name would also appear in EarthBound as a land in Ness' mind, accessed by collecting the Eight Melodies, in which he rids all evil within him. This stage is based off Magicant in Mother, but contains elements from EarthBound as well. The design of the houses seen towards the back of the platforms are based off the houses of Magicant in Mother; however, the house on the right platform is based off the Flying Men's house from Magicant in EarthBound.

Dungeon Man sometimes appears under the stage, slowly walking from one site to the other, with only his head being visible and acting as a moving platform. While he is under the middle platform, the small platform near the bottom disappears.
Some of the residents of Magicant, in both Mother and EarthBound, are the five Flying Men. Flying Men are bird-like creatures with human qualities that Ninten and Ness can recruit with them to help fight against enemies in Magicant. The Flying Men are said to represent Ness and Ninten's courage. When a Flying Man is killed in battle, a tombstone cross will appear next to their home, and another will appear for every Flying Man killed until all five are dead. In this stage, Flying Men can appear from their house on the right side of the stage and help fight the enemy player(s). The design of the Flying Men themselves is directly based off their 2D sprite in EarthBound. When a Flying Man dies, a tombstone cross appears by the house.

Several elements also occasionally appear on the middle and left platforms:
In EarthBound, there are certain paths that are blocked throughout the game by iron pencil statues. The only way to get rid of the iron pencils is by using the wikibound item invented by wikibound. In the Japanese version of EarthBound, rather than iron pencils, the statues are iron octopuses<!--http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plural_form_of_words_ending_in_-us#Octopus-->, and rather the item to make them disappear being called the "Pencil Eraser", it is called the "Octopus Eraser Machine". In this stage, large octopus statues have a chance of appearing on the platforms of the stage. The statue eventually disappears on its own.
*a tree, which acts as a static soft platform.
*a Mobile Sprout which walks back and forth, acting as a soft platform.
*the Sky Runner, which quickly drops down, remains suspended above the stage for a while and quickly rises back up into the sky. It is completely solid. It can be forced to rise up early if it is kicked upwards by a Flying Man.
*a tomato or an octopus statue which act as solid obstacles. They appear suddenly on a platform and slowly sink into it until they fall down. Characters hit by them while they fall take 20% damage. Attacking the tomato enough makes it break into pieces, while attacking and/or standing on the octopus statue makes it sink faster. If they fall on Dungeon Man's head, the tomato breaks, while the octopus statue will just abruptly disappear.

Flying Men sometimes appear on the right platform, in front of the shell-shaped house. If a character walks by him, the Flying Man will fight alongside them, akin to an Assist Trophy. The Flying Man can be defeated by other characters by knocking him off the stage or inflicting enough damage (if the latter happens, the Flying Man lies on the ground, flashes and disappears): following this, a small tombstone spawns in the background, in front of the house; after some time, another Flying Man will spawn in the same location, repeating the process. After all five Flying Men have been defeated, they will not spawn for the rest of the match.
The giant tomatoes that also occasionally appear are a reference to the giant tomatoes seen in Magicant from EarthBound.

Occasionally in the background of this stage, a "rip" in the sky opens and shows various points in wikibounds and Ness's adventures in their respective games:
Mobile Sprouts are enemies in EarthBound that are bipedal sprouts that can walk. In this stage, they have a chance of appearing and serve as moving platforms.
* Ninten outside his house with his dog, wikibound.
* Ninten on the roof of wikibound meeting wikibound.
* Ness and Paula traveling in wikibound with citizens and enemy zombies in the area.
* Ness, Paula, Jeff and Poo at the wikibound sanctuary with the scrolling text on the wall reading, "I'm Ness...". The text, however, has a different font than in EarthBound.
* Ness, Paula, Jeff and Poo walking near the Phase Distorter 2 in wikibound before their departure to fight wikibound.

In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, the rip does not occur when playing Local Wireless or Online.
Also in EarthBound, Dr. Andonuts, Jeff's father, created the wikibound for air transportation. When enemies trap Ness and wikibound under wikibound's graveyard, Paula telepathically calls Jeff for help. Jeff then goes to his father's lab and uses the Sky Runner to fly across the world to Threed to save Ness and Paula. After saving Paula once again in Fourside, Ness, Paula and Jeff return to Threed and went back to the crash site of the Sky Runner where Jeff saved them, Jeff fixes it and the party returned to Winters and met Dr. Andonuts once again to modify the ship to get to Summers before the heroes proceed to Summers. In this stage, the Sky Runner occasionally appears from above, and its design was retained from EarthBound, albeit in 3D.

Ω forms and Battlefield form
wikibound, a companion that originally helped Jeff on his adventure through wikibound, before designing himself into a human-dungeon hybrid and meeting up with the rest of the kids later on, appears as a platform that occasionally scrolls by on the lower end of the stage.
In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, the platform is an extended version of the regular form's middle platform, and it is a hard platform as opposed to being a semisoft platform as in the regular form. Flying Men and Mobile Sprouts are absent, but the rip still occurs.

In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the main platform of the Battlefield form and Ω form is similar to SSB4s Ω form; however, it is slightly redesigned and is resized and reshaped to match Final Destination and Battlefield, respectively. The three soft platforms of the Battlefield form are also made of pink clouds and are unique to this form.

There are several platforms located around the stage, with a relatively larger one in the middle and two elevated platforms above it. Under the main platform is a tree which can also be stood on. There is also a small platform under the main platform. Occasionally mobile sprouts will appear on the main platform and will act as moving platforms.

This stage is primarily based on wikibound from wikibound (later released outside Japan as EarthBound Beginnings), but also contains various elements from wikibound (localized as EarthBound) as well.

In EarthBound Beginnings, Magicant is a mysterious land made of pink clouds and light green rivers, and it is where wikibound resides. The main goal of the game is gathering the wikibound around wikibound and singing the full song to Queen Mary, upon which it is revealed that Queen Mary is the embodiment of the consciousness of wikibound. She then recalls that she raised wikibound, the main antagonist, and the melody was the lullaby she would sing to him. Magicant, which is revealed to have existed only in her mind, then disappears along with her. In this stage, the design of Magicant is retained; however, Queen Mary's castle is notably absent.
Occasionally in the background of this stage, a "rip" in sky opens and shows points in Ninten's and Ness's adventures in their respective games. These events include:

* Ninten outside his house with his dog, wikibound.
In EarthBound, Magicant is a surreal land in wikibound's mind and is accessed by collecting the Eight Melodies. The appearance of Ness's Magicant differs vastly from Queen Mary's, in that it appears as a colorful imaginary world that changes color as he talks to people there. The idea of the rip in the sky could be a reference to how Magicant contains memories of Ness's adventure, such as allowing him to meet various characters from his adventure who remind him of the things he did. Ness then has to travel through the wikibound in order to defeat all evil in his mind. In this stage, the only element from EarthBounds Magicant is the giant tomato that occasionally appears.
* Ninten on the roof of wikibound meeting wikibound.

* Ness and Paula traveling in wikibound with citizens and enemy zombies in the area.

* Ness, Paula, Jeff and Poo at the wikibound sanctuary.
Five Flying Men inhabit Magicant in both games: they are humanoid bird-like creatures which wikibound and Ness can recruit to help them fight against enemies while in Magicant. They are said to represent Ness's and Ninten's courage. When a Flying Man is killed in battle, a tombstone with a cross will appear next to their home, and another will appear for every Flying Man killed until all five are dead. In this stage, the design of the Flying Men and their house is based on the EarthBound version.
* Ness, Paula, Jeff and Poo walking near the Phase Distorter 3 in wikibound before their departure to fight wikibound.

In Mother 2, Ness's progress through areas was sometimes impeded by statues shaped like octopuses, and  the only way to get rid of them was by using the Octopus Eraser Machine item invented by wikibound. The North American localization of EarthBound replaced the octopus statues with large pencil statues, though this change does not carry over to non-Japanese versions of Smash.

wikibounds are enemies in EarthBound, appearing early in the game. They are walking bipedal sprouts which can summon more of themselves during battle.

The wikibound is a vehicle built by wikibound, Jeff's father. Initially used to rescue Ness and wikibound from wikibound's graveyard, the group later reuses the ship in order to travel to Winters to meet up with Dr. Andonuts, and again to travel to Wikibound.

wikibound is the dungeon form of wikibound, created with help from Dr. Andonuts. In EarthBound, he acts as both a visitable dungeon and as a traveling companion in the wikibound desert.

Note that in EarthBound, the octopus statues, Mobile Sprouts, the Sky Runner, and Dungeon Man have no relationship at all to Magicant, however, they could appear on the stage just to reference Ness's memories of the moments in the game.

Tournament legality
Glitch
Magicant is usually banned in tournaments. The primary reason is due to the Flying Men being able to KO at low percentages, giving an advantage to the owner of it. The stage layout also provides many camping locations, particularly under the main body of the stage.
Magicant is the only known stage from which the Spasm Kirby glitch can be activated. It involves Kirby using his Final Cutter move on the very edge of the UFO, which causes Kirby to move quickly back and forth. A video of the glitch is shown below. The glitch was discovered by YouTube user The Super Smasher.
http://youtu.be/u1uKJ2Jg9oA
Trivia
*Magicant is the first EarthBound stage to be based on a location from Mother.
*A portion of the back of the Sky Runner is missing.

Trivia
*Magicant is the first EarthBound universe stage to be based on a location from wikibound.
*Non-Asian versions of Ultimate label the stage as originating from EarthBound. However, the EarthBound logo used for Magicant lacks the outer glow of the one used for Onett and Fourside; this refers to the EarthBound series as a whole rather than the game EarthBound.
*The appearance of the wikibound in one of the rips in the sky uses a color palette that is inaccurate to their original appearance in EarthBound.fact
*A portion of the back of the Sky Runner is missing.
*If Cloud uses Omnislash, the void of this stage can easily be seen on the upper portion of the screen.
*In Ultimate, during the screen zoom of Sudden Death and Super Sudden Death, Flying Men will spawn in and immediately die, before even being tagged in.
*In for 3DS, Magicant is rather notorious for its numerous glitches:
**If Kirby uses Final Cutter on the very edge of the Sky Runner, he will begin rapidly moving back and forward. This was fixed in update 1.0.5.
**If the player grabs a Flying Man in Training Mode, and pauses during a throw, the Flying Man will be stuck inside the character. This can lead to further glitches, such as opponents also being trapped inside the character. This was also fixed in update 1.0.5.
**Characters don't have shadows when they are on the small platform below the main stage.
*In for 3DS, in both Ness's unlock battle and in the All-Star Mode, the Flying Men do not spawn.
*During development, both a 3D model and a 2D sprite were developed for the Flying Men, with the model being rejected in favor of the sprite. Masahiro Sakurai stated during his weekly magazine column that the sprite was chosen to lessen strain on the 3DS hardware, and because the development team felt it looked better. He also mentioned that the model was later recycled during development of DLC and became a costume for the Mii Brawler.
**Despite the Switch having more powerful hardware, the Flying Men still use their 2D sprite in Ultimate.
*In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, zooming in to the interior of Dungeon Man's model reveals the remnants of Brick Road, the man who built and became Dungeon Man.
*In World of Light, Ness is found on a pink cloud with a similar appearance to Magicant.
*In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, if an opponent is hit with a meteor smash while they are above the stage, they will be launched below the stage, albeit with heavily reduced potency.
*In Ultimate, the following Assist Trophies can only appear on the Battlefield and Omega forms of this stage: Skull Kid, Nightmare, Jeff, Ashley, Riki, Dr. Wright, Nintendog, and Shadow the Hedgehog. The Squid Sisters cannot be summoned on this stage at all. Additionally, the following Poké Ball Pokémon can only be summoned on the stage's Battlefield and Omega forms: Togepi, Lugia, Gardevoir, Arceus, and Xerneas. Marshadow cannot be summoned here at all.
*Steve picks up wool blocks instead of dirt blocks on this stage.
