The '''MPGR Summer 2022''' lists the best 50 players in North America for ''[[Super Smash Bros. Melee]]''.  

On November 19th, PGStats announced that the rankings were to resume on January 1st, 2022.<ref>{{cite web|url=https://twitter.com/pgstats/status/1461786518461288455|title=The PGR Returns January 2022}}</ref> However, the starting date was postponed due to the rising cases of COVID-19.<ref>{{cite web|url=https://twitter.com/pgstats/status/1475920289548496898|title=Reopening postponed}}</ref> On February 2nd, 2022, PGstats announced their plans on setting a new start date to March 1st and that they would be monitoring the state of the pandemic before giving a final confirmation on February 17th.<ref>{{cite web|url=https://twitter.com/pgstats/status/1489010865042952198|title=An update on the return of the PGR}}</ref> Although the date came and passed without a confirmation, the season nevertheless began on March 1st and lasted until July 11th with {{Trn|Double Down 2022}}, a month after the end of the [[PGRU v3]]. Due to a lack of major tournaments in Europe that season, only a North American list was produced.

*The MPGR for Summer 2022 marked a number of firsts for recognized global ''Melee'' rankings:

**{{Sm|Hungrybox}}'s ranking of 4th marks the formal end of his 3-year reign as the number one player in the world.

**{{Sm|Mango}}'s ranking of 11th marks the first time he has been ranked outside of the top 10 for the entirety of his competitive career, with him previously ranking no lower than 6th.

**{{Sm|Jmook}}'s ranking of 3rd is the highest ever debut on any recognized global rankings for ''Melee''.

**{{Sm|Swift}}'s ranking (26th) over {{Sm|Axe}} (29th) is the first time another {{SSBM|Pikachu}} player has been ranked over Axe (albeit with a {{SSBM|Fox}} secondary).

**{{Sm|Aklo}}'s ranking of 18th marks the first appearance of a player listed with {{SSBM|Link}} as a used character on a recognized global ''Melee'' ranking since {{Sm|Lord HDL}} on the [[2014 SSBMRank]]. However, listing Link as one of his characters is dubious, as Aklo was a {{SSBM|Fox}} main whose only recorded Link usage in MPGR-qualifying events during the ranking season was in losses against {{Sm|Zain}} at {{Trn|Pound 2022}} and Swift at {{Trn|The Function 2}}. Since Lord HDL being listed as a Link player on the 2014 SSBMRank was similarly dubious, as he dropped Link in favor of Marth by 2014, there still hasn't been a legitimate Link user that made a recognized global ''Melee'' ranking.  Although he doesn't have any wins in the season, Aklo does use Link as a legitimate counterpick for FD.

**{{Sm|Azel}} became the first player to make the "Honorable Mention" list for two consecutive recognized global ''Melee'' rankings, as he was also listed as an Honorable Mention on the [[2019 MPGR|previous MPGR]].

*Fox main {{Sm|Pipsqueak}} had {{SSBM|Captain Falcon}} as a listed character, despite not winning any sets with Falcon at MPGR-qualifying events during the ranking season.
