Unlockable characters can be encountered by either completing their unique requirement or their "VS. Match quota" (playing a certain number of VS. matches to completion). After meeting either requirement, the character must be defeated in a 1-stock match to be unlocked. If the player fails to defeat the character, they can be re-fought by either completing their unique requirement again or by playing another VS. match to completion (if their quota is met).
After meeting the unlock requirements or playing the required number of vs. matches, the character must be defeated in a 1-stock match on a specific stage.
