In the early metagame, Isabelle was seen as an inferior version of her semi-clone {{SSBU|Villager}} due to her special moves having notable flaws, her camping and zoning game being weaker, and her lighter weight and slower falling speed giving her worse endurance. With Villager himself being considered a weak character, opinions on Isabelle have therefore been worse, and she was widely considered a low tier, with many also calling her one of the worst in the game.
