Iwata became president of HAL in 1993, after the original game's release in 1991. Seems like someone confused this with his later Nintendo presidency in 2002, and misattributed it with the remake's release in 2000.

The original MSG doesn't have a Nintendo Wiki page, only the SNES remake. Also, wasn't the original Famicom game the version that almost made HAL go bankrupt? Perhaps someone can correct me on that (which is why I'm not changing the part about that game on this article).
