'''Gamer''' ({{ja|ゲーマー|Gēmā}}, ''Gamer'') is a stage in {{forwiiu}} (where it is stylised as '''GAMER''' in the PAL version) and ''[[Super Smash Bros. Ultimate]]'', based on the Gamer minigame from ''Game & Wario''. In ''for Wii U'', {{SSB4|Wario}} is fought here for his unlock battle.

==Stage overview==
The stage is set on {{s|mariowiki|9-Volt}}'s desk. Its main platform is always present, but, like [[Tortimer Island]], the rest of its layout is randomized and changes each time the stage is played. The table will always have stickers of 5-Volt, 9-Volt, {{s|mariowiki|18-Volt}}, and [[Kat & Ana|Ana]]. Additional platforms can contain stickers of [[Ashley]], [[mariowiki:Dribble and Spitz|Spitz]] and another Ana. If the sketchbook is present on the stage, it will flip pages to show pictures of {{s|mariowiki|Mona}}, {{s|mariowiki|Jimmy T.}}, and either [[mariowiki:Young Cricket and Master Mantis|Young Cricket]] (''SSB4'' only) or {{s|mariowiki|Penny}} (''Ultimate'' only).

Occasionally, 9-Volt's mother, [[5-Volt]], will enter the room and look for fighters. Her line of sight is represented by a beam of light, which fighters can escape by hiding behind objects on the desk. If 5-Volt spots a fighter, she will get mad and deal 20% damage, high knockback, and paralysis to them. In ''Super Smash Bros. Ultimate'', fighters with Zap Floor Immunity spirits will still be paralyzed by 5-Volt but her paralyzing effect lasts shorter than fighters who don't have them. It is blockable, but deals enough [[shield damage]] to break a full shield. She can appear in different places such as in the doorway, window, TV, gamepad, or sketchbook (the latter two only if they are present on the stage). Harmless fake-outs can also occur in the same locations, typically in tandem with 5-Volt.

There is a chance she will fall asleep at the table, producing a "[[wikipedia:Manga iconography#Nose|snot bubble]]" which will eventually pop, waking her and resulting in her looking at the table again. If she decides to leave, she will sprint towards the window and crash through it.
*Walk towards the door again pausing halfway, leaving without doing the other options.

|5-Volt will walk outside and open the second window (e.g. if she appears from the left, she will open the right window). She will sometimes appear as if she is ascending stairs, being visible partway between the window instead of from the side. She will sometimes do the reverse, descending stairs before popping up at the second window. There is a chance that she will return walking backwards to open the window again. She can also break the glass, seeing faster.
|A man wearing a wig will open the window instead of 5-Volt. His wig wobbles as he walks, giving him away. His wig falls off before he opens the window. He and 5-Volt will sometimes both appear outside, where they will meet and bow at each other&mdash;the bow will make the man's wig fall off. There is a chance that 5-Volt will still open the window or continue walking.

|5-Volt's silhouette will be shown. She won't look for a while, but when she starts looking it will trigger quickly. She only sees what is directly in front of the page, even missing the area below that is in front of the easel.

===Ω forms and Battlefield form===
In ''Super Smash Bros. for Wii U'', the [[Ω form]] only features a desk with no other features that extends below the [[blast line]]. 5-Volt will not pop out to attack players, though she'll still appear in the background, and the fake-outs still happen. The TV can still show the stage 5-Volt normally pops out. The door will always be shut.

In ''Super Smash Bros. Ultimate'', the Ω form and [[Battlefield form]] are similar to ''SSB4'''s Ω form; however, the main platform does not extend below the blast line and is resized and reshaped to match {{SSBU|Final Destination}} and {{SSBU|Battlefield}}, respectively and the pencils and the WarioWare character stickers from the original stage still appear with the Ana sticker appear to be moved inward. The three [[soft platform]]s of the Battlefield form resemble the green book soft platforms of the regular form with stacks of books in the background supporting them. 5-Volt may enter her "attack" position through the window, but won't actually attack. Additionally, characters can pass through the room's walls.

==Origin==

The player would play as 9-Volt trying to play games past his bedtime (in the form of traditional ''WarioWare'' microgames on the [[Wii U GamePad]]) while his mother, 5-Volt, tries to catch him from different locations such as the windowsill and television. Pressing the ZL and ZR triggers simultaneously makes 9-Volt hide under the covers to avoid her wrath; however, players lose if his mom catches him playing, they lose four times or 9-Volt stays under the blanket for too long (and 5-Volt is not looking), making him fall asleep. The same gamepad used in the minigame may appear in the center portion of the stage.

Some layouts can feature elements from other ''Game & Wario'' minigames. The right portion of the stage can feature {{s|mariowiki|Pyoro}} and its clay platform from the minigame {{iw|mariowiki|Bird|minigame}}. The center stage may feature a building from Stages 1 and 3 in Mona's minigame {{s|mariowiki|Shutter}} along with its occupants.

The mode returns in ''{{s|mariowiki|WarioWare Gold}}'' under the name Sneaky Gamer with the same premise, albeit on the bottom screen of the [[Nintendo 3DS]] instead of the Wii U GamePad. The artwork is all redone to match the character designs in ''Gold'' and 9-Volt's Nintendo systems are re-arranged.

In both ''SSB4'' and ''Ultimate'', the stage's design resembles the ''Game & Wario'' version of the mode, and 5-Volt retains her ''Game & Wario'' design. However, the stickers and sketchbook images depicting various ''WarioWare'' character art are updated in ''Ultimate'' from ''Game & Wario'' art to ''Gold'' art.

==Tournament legality==
Due to the stage's variable layout and the presence of 5-Volt as a stage hazard, this stage is universally banned from tournaments. However, some early proposed rulesets for ''Ultimate'' have included Gamer as a potential counterpick stage, provided that stage hazards are turned off, and the layout stays the same throughout. However, in the final game, even if the stage hazards are turned off, the layout is randomized and may include caves of life, though 5-Volt will not appear.

The Battlefield and Ω forms of this stage are sometimes banned due to the camera angles differing from that of other stages.

*In {{forwiiu}}, this is the only stage to have an Original Games/Settings tip attached to it.
*[https://tcrf.net/Super_Smash_Bros._for_Wii_U#Unused_Text Unused text] suggests Gamer was originally going to be an [[unlockable stage]] in {{forwiiu}}.
*Rarely, a glitch will occur where 5-Volt will get angry at a player for being in her sight, but the player will not be [[paralyze]]d.
*The visible outer walls of this stage have no collision detection; when characters are knocked off, they can be seen going through the walls. This is most likely because of blast zones needing to be on the stage, which compromises the existence of the walls.
*In ''Ultimate'', the following [[Assist Trophies]] cannot appear on this stage: the [[Moon]], [[Nightmare]], [[Andross]], [[Devil]], [[Nikki]] (due to the dark background obscuring her drawings) and the [[Squid Sisters]]. Additionally, [[Lunala]] cannot be summoned from a [[Poké Ball]] here.
