Editing Forum:Two new policies for SW:CNA

Ayup, it's Plaguey. I have two policies I would like formalised in [[SW:CNA]].

==Advanced techniques documentation==
So a common thing Omega Tyrant has mentioned regarding advanced techniques, is that '''they should, generally, be put onto the page related to the move being used'''. For a class act in managing those pages under that policy, see [[Crownerang]]. I've been going through the many, many merge proposals related to formalising this policy as of late, but without a precise policy, it can be a bit awkward!

The closest things I've seen for this policy refer to glitches:
* ''Notable glitches; if a glitch is notable enough, it can have its own article. Read the below section to see what is not considered a notable glitch.''
* ''Articles about non-notable glitches: Some glitches can have their own articles, but others cannot. Glitches should have a notable presence or significance in the Smash community before having their article created. If the glitch is not very notable, consider adding information about the glitch to a related article.''

I would like to see something similar appended for advanced techniques, formalising what Omega Tyrant has stated. 

We could just add "and advanced techniques" to the policies I've quoted? I believe this would account for most things while allowing super duper ultra mega notable techniques that could warrant their own page to get them. For example, Ac2k has argued [[Double shine]] (why isn't this multishine btw? lol) could be its own page off of sheer notability across the internet, and I am personally receptive to that argument on account of adding, say, trivia and legacy sections to it. Of course, that page isn't well-maintained right now, but it certainly could be.

==Boss character pages==
Plain and simple, I'm wanting to have my unplayable character documentation policy to be appended to SW:CNA, so it isn't something people have to go to the mountains for.

You'd be looking for this, quoted from [[User:Plague von Karma#Unplayable character documentation]].

When creating a page for an unplayable character, all three of the following must apply:
* They must exist in the vanilla game.
* They must require minimal tinkering to be playable; eg. Occupying a character slot or having unused controls.
* They must have their own files and not strictly pull from another character's. 

With these standards, the following would apply:
* [[Giga Bowser (SSBM)]] qualifies on account of being a fully independent character in his own character slot. 
* [[Ridley (SSBB)]] and other ''Brawl'' bosses qualify on account of being a boss with debug controls unused in the game's files, which are easily re-enabled with Gecko codes. 
* [[Dracula]] does not qualify due to an apparent lack of debug controls that would make him usable. Thus, he would require large-scale modifications to the game that place him outside the scope of the project. 
* Giant Kirby does not qualify due to simply being Kirby with [[Super Mushroom]] power-ups.
** [[Metal Mario (SSB)]] and [[Giant Donkey Kong (SSB)]] qualify on account of them being their own characters, with their own slots, stock icons, and more. The naming conventions are superficial: The [[Metal Box]] and [[Super Mushroom]] do not exist in ''Smash 64''.

This seems rather open-and-shut. The first one more specifically I feel like the number of advanced techniques that get their own page is going into ridiculous territory (like imagine [[Advanced technique#Steve|all of this]] getting their own page). I feel like consolidating all advanced tech into their respective pages is suffice and can also get rid of some tech pages that don't really have much to them. I'm late on this but I want to restate my belief from before that some techniques like multishine/waveshine are notable enough to have their own articles (I think it's totally fine that the most iconic move in all of competitive Smash has various articles dedicated to it). From a general viewpoint my stance is that we should avoid merging pages if that would result in information getting lost for the sake of brevity on the merged article. The older games (especially Melee) have a lot more sufficiently notable advanced techniques and glitches because there's less AT in the newer titles, and the glitches often get patched out. But for Ultimate, off the top of my head I think techniques like Steve's Phantom MLG/hitstun cancelling have enough to write their own article about them. Obviously this requires a lot of line drawing but with these standards in mind it should be easier to arbitrate.

As for the boss articles, I think it could be cool to create pages like "Dracula/Moveset (SSBU)" that details the hitboxes, animations, and properties of each attack, sort of like the moveset subpages. : A sly bump, but I want to say I support what you're saying. To me, it feels like common sense. Ultimate's tech probably warrants some arbitration - my gut tells me K. I '''support''' this. I think that, for advanced techniques, they should be on the special move's page regardless; if a section gets to be a bit large text-wise or is notable enough that it reaches levels of popularity higher than your average MALLC, then you could split it off onto a subpage, but I think consolidating information to make it more easily accessible is the best course of action. The important thing is that these are all related to the special moves, and should not try to branch off too far from them. More universal advanced techniques (such as wavedashing) can and should be on their own pages, though, because those are less restricted—to that end, I do think that something like multishining should be its own page, not just for its longstanding status in competitive Melee, but because it also covers more than one character.

Boss articles should also be a thing. We already delve into technical data with the fighters themselves, so I don't see how doing so for bosses is out of the ordinary.
