| The Fire Bar (ファイアバー, Fire Bar) is an item from the Mario series.

| Fire Bars made their debut in Super Mario Bros. as obstacles in castle levels. They consist of rows of fireballs that rotate clockwise or counterclockwise around a block. They add a puzzle element, requiring strategic timing to bypass them. Fire Bars would make recurring appearances across all kinds of Mario games, with some Mario games also reinventing the concept, like with Roto-Discs from Super Mario Bros. 3 and Spinners from Super Mario World.
| |
|
| |
|
| Their design as items in Smash Bros. is almost a 1:1 recreation of their Super Mario Bros. sprite, with some cues from their appearances in 3D titles, such as Super Mario 3D Land, where there are no fireballs "stuck" inside the block.
| | The Fire Bar is an item in the upcoming Super Smash Bros. 4. It is a battering item that deals flame damage. It appears to shrink for reasons unclear; either over time, or as the result of hitting other players. |

| ==Overview== | | ==Origin== |
| ===As an item===
| | It is based on the Fire Bars that appear in various Bowser's Castles throughout the Mario series. |
| The Fire Bar debuts in Super Smash Bros. 4 as a battering weapon.
| |
| | |
| The Fire Bar features a unique mechanism involving ammunition, featuring five fireballs. When it is swung and hits the opponent, it will deal flame damage, alongside moderate knockback and damage, with a forward smash being able to KO opponents at 50% when fully charged. Fireballs closer to the hilt deal more damage than those distant from it. However, when the Fire Bar hits the opponent every two times, the fireballs gradually disappear. It cannot go below one fireball, lowering its effective range. Throwing the item does not count towards the loss of fireballs, but it does not reset it.
| |
| | |
| The Fire Bar does not have a hitbox on its hilt, and all hitboxes in the weapon are only on the fireballs. As a result, the weapon cannot harm opponents at point-blank range, and hitting with the fireballs becomes more and more difficult as the fireballs begin to dissipate.
