'''Event Match 8: Hot Date on Brinstar''' is the eighth event of the 51 [[Event Matches]] in the [[Event Mode]] of ''[[Super Smash Bros. Melee]]''. In this event, the player can choose any character. Both the player and Samus have 3 stock, but instead of starting with 0% damage, Samus starts on 130% damage and the player starts on 102% damage. When a character respawns after being KO'd, they will still have the damage that they started the event on. This is one of the two events involving [[Brinstar]], the other being [[Event 20: All-Star Match 2]], which consists of five battles, the first of which is on [[Brinstar]].


The player controls a fighter of their choice and must win a 3 [[stock]] match against a [[CPU]] {{SSBM|Samus}} on the [[Brinstar]] stage. The event match features no time limit. The CPU Samus' [[artificial intelligence]] is set at Level 5.

When the match starts, the player's fighter spawns on the leftmost soft platform, while Samus spawns on the rightmost soft platform. The player and Samus each start with 102% and 130% damage, respectively, which causes both characters to fly far when hit by powerful attacks.
