Pikachu and Pichu is the 48th event match of the 51 event matches in Super Smash Bros. Melee.
Pikachu and Pichu (ピカチュウ&ピチュー, Pikachu & Pichu) is the 48th event match of the 51 event matches in Super Smash Bros. Melee. In this event match, the player may choose any character and will have two stocks. The player must fight 2 Pichu with one stock each and a Pikachu with infinite stocks; the two Pichu will not actively attack the player unless they're approached, while Pikachu will constantly hound the player. However, if one Pichu is KO'd, then the other Pichu will begin to attack the player as well. The player must KO both Pichu. The stage played on is Dream Land, making it the only Melee event match set on a past stage. However, completing the event does not unlock Dream Land if the player does not have it yet.

The player controls a fighter of their choice and must win a stock match against two CPU Pichu and a CPU Pikachu on the Dream Land stage, where the player starts with 2 stocks, the Pichu start with 1 stock, and Pikachu starts with infinite stocks. This event match features no time limit. The red and green CPU Pichu's artificial intelligence is each set at Level 5 and 6 (in addition to both of them taking 0.8x knockback; about as much knockback taken as Captain Falcon and Link, two heavyweights), while the CPU Pikachu's artificial intelligence is set at Level 9, while also giving 1.24x knockback (For example, Pikachu's neutral aerial can KO Mario about 40% earlier from center stage).
Trivia
*The name and description of the event and the presence of two Pichu are references to the animated short Pikachu and Pichu, where in one scene, Pikachu has to protect the Pichu brothers and escape from an angry Houndour.
When this match starts, the player's fighter will spawn on the center of the main platform, while the red Pichu spawns on the rightmost soft platform, the green Pichu spawns on the top soft platform, and Pikachu spawns on the leftmost soft platform. The Pichu do not actively attack the player unless they are approached, while Pikachu attacks the player's fighter. If one Pichu is KO'd, the other Pichu will attack the player's fighter. If the player's fighter KOs both Pichu, it will result in a victory.
*This event can be played before Dream Land is unlocked. But upon completion, it does not unlock the unlockable stage. This is similar to how Event 23: Slippy's Invention can be played before Falco is unlocked.

Trivia
*This event match's name is a reference to the animated short Pikachu and Pichu where in one scene, Pikachu has to protect the two Pichu brothers and escape from an angry Houndour.
*This is the only event match in Melee that takes place on an unlockable past stage, which in this case, is Dream Land.
**Unlocking the Dream Land stage is not required to unlock this event match, whereas the stage itself must be unlocked by completing the Target Test with all 25 fighters.
