Lethal Marathon (めざすゴールはただひとつ, There's Only One Goal to Reach) is the 33rd event match of the 51 event matches in Super Smash Bros. Melee.
Lethal Marathon is the 33rd event match of 51 in Super Smash Bros. Melee. It is a reprise of the F-Zero Grand Prix stage from Adventure Mode, where the goal is to reach the end of the stage in the time limit. Unlike in Adventure Mode, the time limit is shorter (45 seconds), the game runs at double speed, and the F-Zero racers can all hit the player in succession for massive damage and a one-hit KO. The difficulty therefore lies in navigating the stage with Captain Falcon's high falling speed and progressing forwards while avoiding the cars.

This event match is a reprise of F-Zero Grand Prix, the first part of the eighth stage of in Adventure Mode. The player controls Captain Falcon and must reach the end of the stage in the time limit. Unlike in Adventure Mode, the player has one stock instead of up to five, the time limit is set to 45 seconds instead of 4 minutes, the game runs at double speed (causing the timer to run out in only 22.5 seconds of real time), and the player receives no temporary invincibility after being hit by an F-Zero racer (meaning that being hit by a single F-Zero racer almost certainly guarantees being hit by several more in succession for massive damage and an OHKO). The difficulty therefore lies in navigating the stage with Captain Falcon's high falling speed and progressing forwards while avoiding the cars.
It is possible to survive getting hit, if the player is only hit by the last F-Zero machine, or by DIing out of the F-Zero machines into the ground and teching, though that is almost impossible to perform with the sped-up gameplay. There are also certain points on the field where the player is safe from the cars if they duck, most notably the platforms and bends in the road.

*A video demonstrating the event being cleared with the player being hit by the F-Zero machines. By running the video in slow-motion, it can be seen that the player was able to air dodge both to prevent further damage and being blasted offscreen.
