Before the story of the Subspace Emissary began as presented by ''Brawl'', {{SSBB|King Dedede}} learned about [[Tabuu]]'s motive and his Off Waves attack, which would reduce any fighter who would oppose him to their trophy forms by witnessing the [[Subspace Army]]'s attack on the [[Halberd]]. Aware that the Off Waves would result in all known fighters being permanently trapped in their trophy forms and Tabuu remaining unopposed, he set about creating the Dedede Brooch so that even if the fighters were out of the picture, there would still be a way to put them back in action.
