The dashing shield is a technique available in Super Smash Bros. 64 and Super Smash Bros. Brawl. It is performed by using one's shield during a run (but not during the initial dash animation except in Smash 64), which results in a short slide from the dashing momentum. The burst of momentum is much greater in Smash 64, especially with Captain Falcon's initial dash animation, which travels ridiculously far. Sliding versions of OoS techniques can result from this, such as a dashing shield grab.  The dashing shield can also help with feints. For example, a player can dash toward an opponent, feigning a rush, and then shield; the opponent may fall for the feint and try to retaliate, leaving him or her open to the rusher's real attack. The dashing shield can also be used similarly to the dash-cancel from Super Smash Bros. Melee.
