*The [[Koopaling]]s and [[Hero#Dragon Quest III|Erdrick]] are the only playable characters originating from the 1980s not present in the event, due to them being alternate costumes for {{SSBU|Bowser Jr.}} and [[Hero (SSBU)|the Luminary]] respectively.
*[[Mushroom Kingdom II]] and [[Temple]] are the only stages from a 1980s game not present in the event.
**Mushroom Kingdom II would later appear in the [[Hailing from the '90s]] event, in reference to the Japanese release date of ''[[Super Mario Bros. 2]]''.
*[[Flat Zone X]] is the only stage in the event that did not appear in a game released on the Famicom.
*On the banner, the characters rendered in 8-bit style are Mario, Donkey Kong, Link, Samus, the Ice Climbers, Pit, Snake, Mega Man, Little Mac, Pac-Man, Duck Hunt, and Simon.
**Mr. Game & Watch also appears on the banner, replacing the 8 by using [[Judge]] #8.
