#REDIRECT: Stage music
Alternate music sometimes plays in particular stages in Super Smash Bros. Melee. These tunes can be triggered by:
* Unlocking a certain stage or extra
* Holding down a certain button combination
They can also be triggered randomly.

Alternate music for normal stages
Every time you load up one of these stages in Vs. Mode or Training Mode, there is a 12% chance that the alternate music will play instead of the normal music. If you have the Sound Test unlocked, you can also hold L or R while the stage is loading to force the alternate music to play. You cannot do this without the Sound Test.

The alternate music for normal stages are:
* Icicle Mountain: Balloon Fight theme
* Great Bay: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Times Lost Woods theme
* Temple: Fire Emblem theme
* Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Bros. 3s Stage 1 remix
* Pokemon Stadium: Pokemon Gold & Silvers Trainer Battle theme
* Big Blue: Mach Rider theme
* Onett: "Mother 2" (theme from Earthbound)
* Mushroom Kingdom: Dr. Marios "Fever" theme
* Mushroom Kingdom II: Dr. Marios "Fever" theme
* Battlefield: Multi-Man Melee battle music
* Final Destination: Event 51: The Showdown's theme (a remixed version of SSBM's opening song)

Alternate music for Adventure Mode stages
When you are on the screen that shows you what stage is coming next in Adventure Mode, hold down L, R, and press START. Don't let go of L or R until the music starts, and an alternate theme will play for some of the stages. This only works for the first stage in the area you are in: for example, on the F-Zero Grand Prix, only the first level will have the special music, not the fight with Captain Falcon. The only exception is the Temple battle with Zelda.

Here are the stages with alternate music only in Adventure Mode:
* Mushroom Kingdom (1st): Super Mario Bros. 3s Stage 1 remix
* Underground Maze: Fire Emblem theme
* Temple: Great Bay music
* Brinstar: Brinstar Depths music
* Green Greens: Fountain of Dreams music
* Corneria: Venom music
* F-Zero Grand Prix: Mach Rider theme
Like the normal stages, there's also a 12% chance of the alternate music playing automatically.

Alternate main menu music
After you defeat Classic Mode, Adventure Mode, All-Star Mode, and Target Test with every character, and defeat 10-Man Melee, 100-Man Melee, 3-Minute Melee, and 15-Minute Melee at least once, there is a slight chance that a different menu theme will play when you are on the main menu. If you do not hear it when you have completed all of these tasks, try going to the title screen and re-entering the main menu.

Alternate music for Target Test
You can also change the music for any characters' Target Test. While playing one, pause the game, and hold L, R, and Z to reset the match. Your character's theme song should play.
