Move to Poltergust G-00[edit]

As with Grand Star and Fire Arrow, we should be up to date. Lou Cena (talk) 18:42, May 11, 2019 (EDT)

Weak oppose I think it is fine at it's current location. We aren't official. George Jones.jpg White Lightning Walls Can Fall.jpg 18:36, May 28, 2019 (EDT)

Since SmashWiki is not official, why not just call it Poltergust? That's what 99% of people call all of the vacuums anyway and that way it covers both variations and any other future variations. TheNuttyOne 23:34, June 24, 2019 (EDT)

Poltergust is the generic name of the line of vacuums. Renaming it to the most up-to-date name, in line with Grand Star and Fire Arrow, is not a bad option. On that note, we should also move Beast Ganon to Ganon, The Demon King. Aidan, the Rurouni 23:42, June 24, 2019 (EDT)
Beast Ganon and Power Star were both moved. This one has a little bit of opposition (hammer shouldn’t move yet because the template has been up for 15 minutes, so if anybody else wants to voice their support, speak now. Lou Cena (talk) 14:11, June 25, 2019 (EDT)
If we a renaming it, it possibly could be Poltergust, seeing as they are both called that. However, Luigi also uses the "Poltergust G-00" as part of his grab in Ultimate, so it might be better to keep it as "Poltergust 5000" on both accounts. Wolff (talk) 19:29, June 25, 2019 (EDT)
Unless it was renamed to "Poltergust (Final Smash)" to avoid confusion with Luigi using the "Poltergust G-00" as a grab. Wolff (talk) 19:31, June 25, 2019 (EDT)
I fail to see what good that will do, when we can just mention on the page that it's also his grab. We don't need a separate page for a grab when it's the same thing being used. Aidan, the Rurouni 19:35, June 25, 2019 (EDT)
Then what happens to the name of the page then? Wolff (talk) 19:36, June 25, 2019 (EDT)
I think my preference would be just "Poltergust", but that'd require a bit of link rerouting, as it's already a disambiguation page. ~ Serena Strawberry (talk) 19:38, June 25, 2019 (EDT)
I suppose that is true. I would say the same thing about Ganon, but oh well. Wolff (talk) 19:44, June 25, 2019 (EDT)
Ganon has more of a problem being a boss and a Final Smash, so keeping it at "Ganon" while the FS is "Ganon, the Demon King" is fine, I think. ~ Serena Strawberry (talk) 20:07, June 25, 2019 (EDT)
I agree renaming Poltergust, because their names are the same in Japanese. But I have a question, the Poltergust G-00 also in Luigi's grab, so maybe it should have a separate page.--Capstalker (talk) 02:39, June 26, 2019 (EDT)
It'd probably be fine to just have it be separate sections on this page. One segment for the "Final Smash" usage, and one segment for "as a moveset element". ~ Serena Strawberry (talk) 02:45, June 26, 2019 (EDT)

Bumping. Lou Cena (talk) 00:35, July 1, 2019 (EDT)

Move it to either Poltergust or Poltergust G-00. - EndGenuity (talk) 22:03, July 6, 2019 (EDT)

Since a move just failed, I might as well bump this again and say strong support. I know the easy argument is that "SmashWiki isn't official", but that is no reason why we shouldn't use the name that Nintendo gives us. We should use the most recent name, regardless of what inconveniences it brings up with it "being too long" or "too specific". There's a reason why the name was changed and our articles should reflect the most recent name. Redirects still exist. KungFuLakitu, Spiny Overlord 14:09, July 10, 2019 (EDT)

Currently the most popular decision is actually to move it to just "Poltergust", which is why the attempted move was invalid. Incidentally I think moving it to just Poltergust is probably the better option. Alex the Jigglypuff trainer 14:12, July 10, 2019 (EDT)
What good will giving it a generic name do? In fact, we tend to avoid generic names - why else would Mega Lucario and Mega Charizard X be different pages? We should move it to Poltergust G-00, but not "Poltergust". Aidan, the Rurouni 20:58, July 11, 2019 (EDT)

Poltergust G00 simply because we've done the same to other renamed-but-functionally-identical Final Smashes. Toomai Glittershine ??? The Glow 22:05, July 11, 2019 (EDT)

Move to Poltergust G-00 per what the others have said. Bwburke94 (talk) 16:03, August 19, 2019 (EDT)

Just Poltergust is by far the superior option. Alex the Jigglypuff trainer 16:43, August 19, 2019 (EDT)

Poltergust works the best, as it's very likely that in the case of a Smash sequel, it'll be renamed to the newest version of the Poltergust. This will save us time in the long run. An Adventurer draws near! (talk) 12:00, September 19, 2019 (EDT)

The name "Poltergust" shouldn't ride on a Smash sequel, but a Luigi's Mansion sequel, which, given the franchise's spread out history, I doubt is likely any reasonable time soon. Aidan, the Rurouni 15:52, September 19, 2019 (EDT)
Even if a sequel isn't too soon, there is still precedent for the Poltergust's name being changed in each successive installment, so I feel like just going with "Poltergust" and having it apply to every version would work just as well. (For this page, that would entail bringing in the Melee and Brawl trophies of the Poltergust 3000, too.) ~ Serena Strawberry (talk) 16:20, September 19, 2019 (EDT)

Has this reached a conclusion? If not I'd say move to Poltergust G-00 SupαToαd64, the Best 001Toad.jpg 07:19, October 2, 2019 (EDT)

It seems like just Poltergust is the most voted option thus far, but I dunno for sure if the discussion is over. Crazy456Rhino (talk) 09:20, October 17, 2019 (EDT)

I think that Poltergust G-00 is the best option. Shideravan (talk) 05:44, October 28, 2019 (EDT)

I don't know if it's a rule per say, but I advise bolding your vote such as seen above. It makes it easier for mods and whatnot to count them up. Crazy456Rhino (talk) 09:37, October 28, 2019 (EDT)

Since this ended in a 6:7 Poltergust vs. Poltergust G-00 which hardly feels like a consensus, I want to reopen it to discuss moving to just "Poltergust". This name would most accurately cover both variations of the Final Smash and is also in line with what basically everyone calls it, which is the preferred title since SmashWiki is not official. No one specifies which version of the Poltergust Luigi is using, especially since they're completely identical moves (barring the addition of Luigi's grab, which is irrelevant to the page title as we determined in moving it to begin with).

The only arguments I see in opposition of just "Poltergust" are "Poltergust is the generic name of the line of vacuums" (...is this even an opposition or just a statement of a fact?), "Luigi also uses the Poltergust G-00 as part of his grab in Ultimate" (already addressed and would have prevented a move to Poltergust G-00 too), "we should use the most recent name, regardless of what inconveniences it brings up" (literally the point of "SmashWiki is not official" is to prevent this exact mentality), "we've done the same to other renamed-but-functionally-identical Final Smashes" (considering Power Star/Grand Star and Fire Bow/Fire Arrow have no such "compromise" and are also still in line with what the community uses, the only actual comparison is "Ganon, The Demon King", which frankly is a bad name as well and also deserves reopening the discussion -- but bottom line is, "this is how we've always done it" is never an argument), and "Poltergust G-00 is the best option" (not an argument). None of these arguments strike me as particularly strong logic to go against the norm of "name the page after what the community generally calls it", which in this case comes with the secondary benefit of matching both names. TheNuttyOne 16:53, July 21, 2020 (EDT)

In my opinion, it is a very bad idea to move this page to just Poltergust. This wiki should always adhere to the most recent names of moves in my opinion, and this page is no exception. 72.219.72.215 23:50, September 23, 2020 (EDT)
