Fairly simple one here, my proposal is to take the images from Category:User images that are used exclusively as signatures, and put them into their own sub-category of user images, Signature images. From glancing through user images, about 10 to 15 percent of user images are signature images, so there would be anywhere between 160 and 240 images that would need their categories to be changed. On second thought, this is not worth the effort. Also just got swamped with a bunch of classwork so were this to pass I wouldn't be able to deal with it for another couple of weeks. DekZek Dekzeksig.png 17:17, February 5, 2020 (EST)

  2. This is a harmless change imo. The Signature images will just be a subcategory of User images, right? CookiesCnC Signature.pngCreme 12:25, January 17, 2020 (EST)
Yes. Since all signature images are user images, the category of signature images would be a subcategory of user images. DekZek Dekzeksig.png 11:33, January 22, 2020 (EST)
  3. I don't see why we shouldn't. This won't really have a mojor affect here. SupαToαd64 001Toad.jpg 18:08, January 30, 2020 (EST)

Oppose[edit]

Neutral[edit]

  1. Lotta work for nothing Is it really that common an issue to find a user image that's been uploaded for a signature but not yet used? (Which can be cleanly fixed anyway by just asking the user "are you using this?", because it'll be used in their reply.) And is that worth moving a ton of stuff (some of which might be both "user images" and "user signature images") and adding a further wrinkle to how future users must do things? Seems like busywork for busywork's sake honestly. Toomai Glittershine ??? The Quiet 18:49, January 30, 2020 (EST)
To be honest, no, but I have had the inverse happen where there is an unused user image and I have to figure out where it was last used before asking the user if they intend to use it, or if I should tag it for deletion. The category is specifically for images meant to be exclusively used in signatures. If an image is used both as a user image and as a signature image, then it would be categorized as a user image. As for it being busywork, since the distinction between the two categories is clearly defined, it is nowhere near as large of a task as dealing with unused images or fair use images. Also, I volunteered to take care of this task myself. DekZek Dekzeksig.png 17:36, February 1, 2020 (EST)

Comments[edit]

Just wondering: what's the purpose of it? CookiesCnC Signature.pngCreme 16:12, January 16, 2020 (EST)

Making my life easier. It would make dealing with unused images easier, because with this I won't have to guess whether an image is actually an unused user image, or just a signature image that hasn't been used yet since it was made. I'm only making this a proposal because adding this would mean going through all of user images and changing the categories on the ones that meet the criteria. Bump DekZek Dekzeksig.png 11:33, January 22, 2020 (EST)

Final Bump Unless anyone objects, I am going to start working on setting a page up for me to manage the backlog now. It will probably take a while to actually apply this to past pages, but either way future signature images should now have the Category:Signature images as opposed to Category:User images. DekZek Dekzeksig.png 15:59, January 30, 2020 (EST)

Final Final Bump I've set up everything on my end so I can clear this out over the weekend, I just need this approved before I can actually get to work. If you support this idea, please respond as well, since the admins are probably waiting for more people to show their agreement before passing this. DekZek Dekzeksig.png 16:38, January 31, 2020 (EST)
