Pokémon Ranger (SSB4)

Pokémon Ranger is a playable character in Nutta's version of Super Smash Bros. 4. He was confirmed on September 15th, 2015 when Nutta was bored and no one else was online. The Pokémon Ranger is represented by Ben, the male player character from Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, and his female counterpart, Summer, appears in half of his costumes. They are joined by the ukulele-playing Pichu that serves as a partner Pokémon in their home game, who attacks for the ranger in most of the moves (like Olimar's Pikmin), as well as a number of other Pokémon that appear only for special attacks.

Attributes

The Pokémon Ranger uses moves based off of the Pokémon Ranger spin-off games in the Pokémon series- mainly Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, with some elements from previous games. Most of his moves have the Pichu attack, although some, such as his neutral attack, have the ranger himself attack. Unlike Olimar's Pikmin, Rosalina's Lumas, and Nana from the Ice Climbers, Pichu cannot be KO'd without the Ranger, and they cannot be split up.

Moveset

  Name Damage Description
Neutral attack   3% The Ranger punches, followed by Pichu mimicking him (but with added electric effect), and lastly they both punch at the same time, knocking the opponent back.
2.5%
5.5%
Forward tilt   3% Pichu headbutts.
Up tilt   5% (head), 2% (tail) Pichu leaps up, hitting with his head, then spins around as he lands, hitting with his tail.
Down tilt   4% (backward hit), 6% (forward hit) The Ranger swings hit foot backwards before kicking.
Dash attack   3% (initial dive), 5% (headbutt), 7% (landing) Pichu leaps forward, his cheeks charged with electricity.
Forward smash   10% (early), 18% (clean), 8% (late) Pichu leans back before leaning forwards and emitting electricity from his cheeks. Functionally similar to Pikachu's forward smash.
Up smash   13% Pichu swings his ukulele upward.
Down smash   21% (feet), 13% (head) The Ranger does a split before leaping back to his feet. Both the outward kick of his legs and his head as he jumps back up do damage. Pichu humorously mimics him during the move, but it has no effect.
Neutral aerial   10% (clean), 5% (late) The Ranger performs a sex kick similar to Mario's. Pichu humorously mimics him, but it has no effect.
Forward aerial   7% (early), 12% (clean), 2% (late) Pichu curls up into a ball and spins in midair. The most damage is done by its head, which is electrically charged, in the middle of the attack, while its tail at the beginning and end does little damage.
Back aerial   2% (back early), 8% (back clean), 3% (back late), 5% (front) Pichu kicks backwards while spinning. His head also does damage during the move.
Up aerial   5% (first hit), 6% (second hit), 10% (final hit) The Ranger does a midair somersault. The first hit is with his feet while spinning, the second hit is with his head while spinning, while the final hit is when he extends his legs at the end of the spin, which also causes upward knockback.
Down aerial   10% The Ranger curls up his legs and then extends them in a downward kick, meteor smashing anyone hit.
Grab Capture Styler The Ranger uses the Capture Styler to trap opponents. It has a moderate range.
Pummel   5% Pichu hits the opponent with its ukulele while the opponent is trapped in the Capture Styler.
Forward throw   9% Pichu swings his ukulele, launching the opponent.
Back throw   2% The Ranger swings the Capture Styler backwards, throwing the opponent a short distance behind him.
Up throw   6% (initial release), 10% (headbutt) The Ranger swings the Capture Styler upwards, throwing the opponent a short distance above him. Pichu then leaps up and headbutts with an electric charge, which can damage opponents who were not originally trapped.
Down throw   5% (jump), 10% (landing) Pichu jumps up and lands on the trapped opponent's head before the Ranger releases the opponent. The jump can do damage to opponents who were not originally trapped.

Neutral special Default Field Move 5% per hit (max of 20%) (Burn), 27% (Cut), — (Stink), 22% (Tackle), 10% (Electrify) The Ranger pulls out a Poké Ball and summons a Pokémon to attack. The Pokémon that will be summoned is shown with an icon above the Ranger's head, which will loop as long as the attack button is held. The order is Burn (Magmortar using Flamethrower) > Cut (Gallade using Cut) > Stink (Skuntank using Poison Gas) > Tackle (Rampardos using Tackle) > Electrify (Magnezone using Zap Cannon) > Burn, etc. Burn has high range and can hit up to four times, Cut has low range but high knockback and power, Stink causes no damage but makes opponents Dizzy, Tackle causes no knockback but buries opponents, and Electrify causes no knockback and little damage but paralyzes opponents for a few seconds.
Custom 1 Powerful Field Move 20% (all but Cut), 10% per hit (max of 20%) (Cut) All of the moves do the same amount of damage, but have different effects. Magmortar now breathes one large fireball, which causes more knockback than Flamethrower but has less range and only hits once; Gallade's Cut now hits twice and has more range, but overall does less damage and knockback; Skuntank's Stink now causes damage and flinching but cannot make opponents dizzy; Rampardos' Tackle is slightly weaker and can't bury, but has more range and causes knockback; Magnezone's Zap Cannon is more powerful but has no knockback and can't paralyze opponents.
Custom 2 Random Field Move 10% per hit (max of 40%) (Burn), 35% (Cut), 5% (Stink), 30% (Tackle), 20% (Electrify) All moves are now much more powerful (including Stink now doing damage), but which move is used is now randomized instead of being looped through when the button is held.
Side special Default Poké Assist 1% per hit (max of 10%) (Flying), 2% per hit (max of 12%) (Water), 8% (Poison) Like with Field Move, holding the button will loop through different options. However, there are only three. Flying summons Pidgeot, who uses Gust to create a small tornado that flies forwards across the screen, trapping enemies and doing damage before hurling them up and dissipating. Water summons Corphish, who uses Bubble to create six bubbles, which will pop when collided with, doing 2% damage each. Poison summons Muk, who uses Sludge Wave to splash nearby opponents with poisonous liquid, making them dizzy and doing damage.
Custom 1 Powerful Poké Assist 15% (all) All of the moves do the same amount of damage, but are otherwise less effective. Pidgeot's Gust now just creates a wave of air, which causes no knockback. Corphish's Bubble creates only a single Bubble, which can only collide with one opponent before popping. Muk's Sludge Wave can no longer make opponents dizzy.
Custom 2 Random Poké Assist 5% per hit (max of 50%) (Flying), 8% per hit (max of 48%) (Water), 35% (Poison) All of the moves are much more powerful, but which move is used is now randomized instead of being looped through when the button is held.
Up special Default Fly 5% (Noctowl), 10% (Pidgeot), 7% (Fearow), 18% (Flygon), 30% (Honchkrow) The Ranger summons a flying-type Pokémon to carry him upwards, similar to Charizard's up special. Like Field Move and Poké Assist, holding the button will loop through different Pokémon, which each have slightly different effects. Noctowl goes the highest, but does the least damage; Pidgeot gains moderate height and does moderate damage; Fearow is between Noctowl and Pidgeot in height and damage; Flygon doesn't go as high as Pidgeot, but does more damage; Honchkrow is a terrible recovery, but does the most damage.
Custom 1 Damaging Flight 25% All Pokémon have the same height gain and damage dealt, which is between Flygon and Honchkrow's originals.
Custom 2 Speedy Flight 6% All Pokémon have the same height gain and damage dealt, which is between Noctowl's and Fearow's.
Down special Default Ukulele Melody — (all effects but one), 5% per hit (max of 20%) Pichu strums its ukulele, which causes a random effect. It will either put opponents to sleep, make them dizzy, put flowers on their heads, or create four waves that do damage.
Custom 1 Melody of Banana Peels 2% per hit (max of 20%) Pichu strums its ukulele, which causes all opponents nearby to trip uncontrollably and take minor damage until Pichu is done.
Custom 2 Melody of Creation   Pichu strums its ukulele, which creates an item (a Bob-Omb, a Beam Sword, a Mr. Saturn, a Green Shell, or, rarely, a Golden Hammer) that only the Ranger can pick up.
Final Smash Ranger Sign 2% per hit (up to 18%) (Raikou), 10% per hit (up to 200%) (Entei), 100% (Suicune), 318% total max The Ranger uses the Capture Styler to summon Raikou, Entei, and Suicune, one at a time. Raikou's Spark pulls opponents towards the Ranger, where Entei appears and traps the opponents with Fire Spin, followed by Suicune appearing and sending opponents flying with Blizzard.

Pokémon Ranger
You may think that Pokémon Rangers are just like Trainers, but there are a lot of differences. It takes a lot of training to become a Ranger, and all Rangers vow to only use Pokémon to protect nature (or at least smash anyone who dares to challenge them). They constantly have a single partner Pokémon with them, who has been trained up to a high level. But what's with the ukulele?

Pokémon Ranger (Alt.)
Pokémon Rangers use their Capture Stylers to befriend Pokémon of all shapes and sizes, and can later call on them when they need a hand! Usually, Pokémon Rangers use Field Moves when there's an obstacle in their way, but using it as an attack in a battle tournament also works. It might not follow the guidelines of the Pokémon Ranger society, but it works.

Ukulele Pichu
This adorable little fella is native to Dolce Island, and entertains its Pokémon friends by performing on its ukulele. It's an invaluable partner to the Pokémon Ranger when he or she sets out to save Oblivia. In that adventure, it used its ukulele to calm Pokémon and make them more easily captured. In Smash Bros., it uses its ukulele to stun opponents before landing a powerful electric attack! ZAAAAP!
