Captain Falcon (SSB4)

Captain Falcon returns as a playable character in Super Smash Bros. 4. He was confirmed on July 14, 2014, the same date that F-Zero X was released for the Nintendo 64 in Japan in 1998, alongside Lucina and Robin. His appearance has been upgraded since his last appearance.

Changes from Brawl

Being considered one of the worst characters in Brawl, Captain Falcon has been buffed up, but not without a few nerfs.

  • Buff Falcon Punch now moves Captain Falcon a fair distance forwards, improving the move's range.
  • Buff Raptor Boost has been buffed again. It deals more damage, covers more range, and has gained more KO power.
    • Nerf However, the height gained after hitting with an aerial Raptor Boost has been reduced.
    • Nerf The move has slightly more ending lag.
  • Buff Neutral attack 3 has been strengthened and is now separate from the rapid jabs, which are performed by rapidly tapping A during the beginning of the jab combo.
  • Buff Back throw has received more KO power. It also deals 1% more damage.
  • Buff Forward and back throws have less ending lag, which allow them to lead into a Raptor Boost more effectively at lower percentages.
  • Buff Falcon Dive has a much faster startup, and covers more distance while losing less momentum.
  • Buff Up aerial's trajectory has been reverted to its Smash 64 iteration, allowing for many more followups.
    • Nerf It can no longer horizontally KO as reliably.
  • Buff Knee Smash (forward aerial) sweetspot is easier to land and deals 1% more damage. Changes to hitstun and gameplay speed also make it easier to combo into.
  • Buff Blue Falcon has a larger hitbox upon startup.
  • Nerf Down throw deals slightly less damage.
  • Change Up tilt sends opponents at a higher trajectory, weakening its use as a KO move but enhancing its combo utility.
    • Buff It is now a meteor smash.
  • Change Down tilt sends opponents at a more horizontal trajectory, weakening its use as a combo move but allowing it to set up edgeguards earlier.
  • Change Falcon Dive has more intense visual effects.
    • Buff The move is much stronger, with a grounded Falcon Kick being able to KO at 140%.

Trophy

Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS

Captain Falcon's regular trophy can be obtained by completing Classic Mode and his alternative trophy can be obtained by completing All-Star mode.

Captain Falcon
In the F-Zero racing scene, Captain Falcon uses his Blue Falcon to win big. His origin largely a mystery, he's made his way to the Smash Bros. battlefield to prove his worth outside the cockpit. He's got speed and power, and his distinct Falcon Punch leaves a dent. Start it in the air to surprise your foes!
Captain Falcon (Alt.)
Captain Falcon's default down special, Falcon Kick, is no ordinary kick—it surges forward in a fiery blaze. It's a versatile attack that moves sideways on the ground and diagonally down in the air. His forward air attack, Knee Smash, can send an enemy flying for miles if hit just right.
