Peach (ピーチ, Pīchi) was confirmed to be a playable character in Super Smash Bros. 4 on September 12, 2013.[1] This is a day before the anniversary of Super Mario Bros., the landmark game in which she debuted. She is among the first wave of compatible amiibo figures. Peach is voiced by Samantha Kelly, albeit seemingly with the same voice clips from Super Smash Bros. Brawl. [2][3]

Changes from Brawl

While her moveset appears to be relatively unchanged, Peach has been notably buffed overall from Super Smash Bros. Brawl to SSB4. Her ground game has been particularly improved thanks to her stronger smashes, faster Peach Bomber and tilt attacks leading to many follow ups. Futhermore, her dash attack, forward aerial and back throw received significant increases in knockback, filling out her lack of finishing moves, a prominent weakness she had in Brawl. Likewise, Peach's approaches from below are safer with the gain of a new up aerial. Visually, many new animations accompany her established attacks in the form of hearts, rainbows and magic sparkles.


  • Buff The second hit deals more damage (6%, up from 4%).
  • Buff Its knockback has been immensely increased, being able to KO.
  • Buff Peach's numerous tools (frying pan, tennis racket and golf club) come out in a set order.
  • Buff Each one deals more knockback, making them great finishers.
  • Buff Peach performs a different pose when using them compared to previous games, slightly increasing their range.
  • Buff Its range spreads further horizontally and vertically thanks to a new ribbon spawning around Peach.
  • Buff The sweet spot has been immensely increased and now covers most of the move's hitbox.
  • Buff Its knockback has almost been entirely reverted back to its Melee form.
  • Buff It has a greater amount of possible hits (5, up from 4).
  • Buff It now has the ability to trap opponents into it, allowing each further hit to connect with very limited failure.
  • Nerf However, each hit deals less damage (3-5%, down from 5-7%).
  • Buff A new up aerial has been granted to Peach. It generates a rainbow using a motion resembling Zelda's up tilt. [3]
  • Change The move consists of two hits dealing 4% and 6% respectively.
  • Change It deals less knockback, reducing its KO potential, but making it great for juggles.
  • Buff It is faster and has greater reach, allowing Peach to approach opponents above her more safely.
  • Buff It now has the ability to hit an opponent's shield.
  • Buff It is much faster, with greatly reduced lag.
  • Nerf However, it deals less damage (10%, down from 15%).
  • Buff It is faster and covers more vertical height.
  • Buff It has much stronger knockback, adding more KO potential to it through the upper blast line. It also improves Peach's chances of stage spiking an edge-guarding opponent. [4]
  • Buff It deals more damage (8%, up from 7%).
  • Buff It received sufficient knockback for being an excellent throw for follow ups.
  • Nerf It has more ending lag once a turnip (or item) is plucked.
  • Buff The previous nerf may be nullified through an advanced technique called "Instant Turnip Pull". [7]
  • Nerf The notorious "Stichface" turnip deals less damage (29%, down from 32%) and remarkably less knockback.
  • Nerf Peach's means of approach with it are hindered by the loss of Glide tossing.
  • Buff This loss is mildly compensated by the return of Jump cancel throw. [8]
  • Nerf Forward tilt and down tilt deal less damage (7%, down from 10%).
  • Nerf They all deal less knockback, reducing their KO potential.
  • Buff The previous nerf benefits their combo potential.
  • Buff They are also faster.
  • Buff It has been reverted to its Melee form in terms of knockback.
  • Buff It has greater reach, allowing Peach to strike opponents above and under her as well.
  • Nerf However, it is much slower.
  • Nerf It deals less damage (maximum of 30%, down from 40%).
  • Nerf Opponents' sleep duration has been decreased.
  • Nerf Opponents standing away from Peach will no longer fall asleep.
  • Buff Opponents standing in the air will immediately fall asleep. This can be a guaranteed KO if there's no solid ground under one's feet. [11]
  • Buff It summons three huge peaches instead of many smaller ones. Each one heals 20%, up from 5%.


Like Mario and Luigi, Peach's facial structure appears more as it does in the Super Mario franchise than it has in past installments. Additionally, her dress has been made more stylized and brighter in color. Her hair color appears to be lighter than it was in Brawl as well. The ring on her hand now has an opal gem that matches her other blue gems: the broach on her chest and the one on her crown. Also, her running animation is now based on her running animation from Super Mario 3D World. The underside of her skirt is now darkened, obscuring her undergarments. Like the other characters, Peach is also much more expressive.

Moveset

Ground attacks

Normal

  • Neutral attack - Peach slaps the enemy twice.
  • Dash attack - Peach extends both of her arms and quickly swipes them to her side, as if pushing.
  • Forward tilt - Peach thrusts her leg upward in a 180˚ kick.
  • Up tilt - Peach extends her hand upward and briefly generates a heart.
  • Down tilt - A downward hand sweep to the ground.

Smash Attacks

  • Forward smash - Peach strikes an opponent with one of three weapons:
    • A frying pan from Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
    • A golf club from Mario Golf
    • A tennis racket from Mario Tennis
  • These weapons now come out in a set order: frying pan, tennis racket, then golf club.
  • Up Smash - Twirls around with arm raised, while ribbon appears around Peach.
  • Down Smash - Spins dress around like a blade, slashing whoever gets caught in it.

Aerial attacks

Grabs and throws

  • Forward throw - Peach winds up and slaps the opponent away.
  • Back throw - Peach takes the opponent behind her, and knocks them away by thrusting her rear.
  • Up throw - Puts opponent above her, and volleys him/her upward.
  • Down throw - Sits on opponent.

Special Moves

In Super Smash Bros. 4, special moves can be swapped out for different variants. Peach retains all of her original special moves and her Final Smash.

Toad is equipped by Peach and used as an unwilling counter. In other words, he absorbs damage dealt to his princess before releasing it back.

Peach Bomber propels Peach forward to deliver a powerful hip bash.

Peach Parasol allows Peach to perform an upward jump and simultaneously pull out her parasol, jabbing those above her in the process. It can then be used as a directional glide and opened or closed at will.

Vegetable is a projectile Peach can pluck from the ground as she does in Super Mario Bros. 2. She can then throw it. Along with turnips, Peach can pull out various items ranging from Mr. Saturn to Bob-omb.

Sleepy Toad[12][13] comes out faster and releases bubbles to inflict the sleep status ailment for a brief amount of time to grounded opponents. Airborn opponents will be pushed back. Sleep duration lasts longer at high percentages.

Flower Bomber[14] travels on a much shorter distance than regular Peach Bomber. Opponents hit by it will be inflicted the flower status ailment. It deals less base damage (4%, down from 10%).

Parasol High Jump[15] greatly increases Peach's upward jump. However, she never opens her parasol, leaving herself helpless afterwards.

Light Veggie[16] is plucked much faster (in a similar way to Brawl's Vegetable) while dealing less damage. It travels the air more slowly and farther ahead. It will also fly back toward Peach if it hits an opponent. The move will fail if there's already two light veggies out.

Grumpy Toad[17], unlike regular Toad and Sleepy Toad, doesn't act like a counter. Instead, he automatically releases spores to deal minor damage to opponents.

Flying Peach Bomber[18] travels upward in addition of farther forward. It is harder to land, but it deals more damage (12%, up from 10%) and knockback.

Light Parasol[19] decreases Peach's initial jump. However, she gains additional vertical recovery every time she opens her parasol. This can be used up to four times while airborn. After the fourth time, Peach will become helpless.

Heavy Veggie[20] takes longer to be plucked. It flies faster, but may not be thrown as far. It deals considerably more damage and knockback.

Taunts

  • Takes out and twirls her parasol. She says "sweet" as she does this.
  • Dances in a taunting manner as little music notes flutter around her. She sings a little tune similar to "Ring Around the Rosie".
  • Spins around once. She then winks and points with her index finger in a somewhat bent posture and says "Uh-huh!"

On-Screen Appearance

Appears spinning out of a shower of hearts, then winks and poses with her parasol saying "Hi!".

Victory Fanfare

A flourished remix directly from Brawl based on the sound clip that would play when Mario reaches the end of a level in Super Mario Bros. It is shared with Mario, Luigi, and Dr. Mario.

Trivia

  • In the 3DS version of the game, a bug exists where using Peach's Vegetable move in For Glory mode may rarely trigger an automatic ban for "dishonest play".[21] It is unclear what the cause of the glitch is, but the main theories involve the player being flagged as having an illegitimate item. Nintendo has acknowledged the glitch and has released an update that fixes this issue.[22]
