August 1, 2013 Pic of the day.
Come on out, Cragalanche! (Not really.)
August 2, 2013 Pic of the day. Mega Upper vs. Super Jump Punch.
August 5, 2013 Pic of the day.
A mysterious space warrior appears.
August 6, 2013 Pic of the day.
This island looks familiar!
Confirms the stage later known as Wuhu Island.
August 7, 2013 Pic of the day. Two that are actually not so tall. Kirby's about 8 inches high, Captain Olimar maybe a little over an inch. Sakurai indirectly shows how the Smash series doesn't stay true to scale, with the supposed to be taller Kirby being shown as smaller than Olimar. This pic of the day was later replaced with the below image after the Nintendo Direct.
August 7, 2013 A REAL pic of the day--Luigi joins the battle! In prior games, we've never introduced Luigi before release, but why not? This is the "Year of Luigi," after all. Posted midday as a new pic of the day, after the day's Nintendo Direct confirmed Luigi's return. Sakurai additionally acknowledges how this is the first time Luigi has been revealed before the game's release (as Luigi has always been an unlockable character, whose inclusion were never officially revealed before the game's release outside special cases). Sakurai did not state though if Luigi is going to be a starter character for the first time, or if he is revealing unlockable characters before release this time.
August 8, 2013 Pic of the day.
Take a deep breath…
August 9, 2013 Pic of the day. Oh well… Confirms Luigi will retain his infamous down taunt meteor smash.
August 12, 2013 Pic of the day. A big fire breaks out in Gerudo Valley. Epona, help! This shows off an event that can occur in the 3DS's Gerudo Valley stage. Sakurai did not give any details about it beyond the screenshot however.
August 13, 2013 Pic of the day. A BOMB!
August 14, 2013 Pic of the day. Takeoff! This image confirms battles on the Wuhu Island stage will take place on a plane.
August 15, 2013 Pic of the day. Isn't it a bit early to be worn out?
August 16, 2013 Pic of the day. Here's the X Bomb from Kid Icarus: Uprising. Not to be mistaken for the one from Meteos. Confirms the X Bomb from the Kid Icarus: Uprising will be a new item. However, while Sakurai explicitly states it's not the X Bomb from Meteos, the image of the item's explosion seems to match the X Bomb from Meteos.
August 19, 2013 Pic of the day. Right back atcha! (everyone can do this)
August 20, 2013 Pic of the day. Out of the blue, here's a new stage--the Pyrosphere from Metroid: Other M! An enemy from Samus's past may appear at any second… Confirms the Pyrosphere from Metroid: Other M will be a new stage. Sakurai's vague remark has also led to heavy speculation that a recurring Metroid enemy will appear as a stage hazard on Pyrosphere, with Ridley being most speculated.
August 21, 2013 Pic of the day. I guess we haven't shown the Villager or the Wii Fit Trainer on the 3DS until now. By the way, their outlines can be made thinner or made to disappear completely. This was the first time the Villager and Wii Fit Trainer were seen on the 3DS version.
August 22, 2013 Pic of the day. Wii Fit Trainer knocks in a header! This lethal move is based off of one of the Wii Fit Balance Games.
August 23, 2013 Pic of the day. New and old planes makes a miraculous rendezvous.
August 26, 2013 Pic of the day. Ahem! You mind not touching my nose?
August 27, 2013 Pic of the day. A Reset Bomb has gone off! It's meant to return the surrounding area back to nature. Confirms Reset Bombs will appear on the 3DS Kid Icarus stage, though it was not stated if they are a stage hazard, or purely part of the background.
August 28, 2013 Pic of the day. A panoramic view of Wuhu Island. The stage flies around the right-hand side of the mountain.
August 29, 2013 Pic of the day. Link finishes off his move as Kirby dances.
August 30, 2013 Pic of the day. The same name, yet a completely different move. Mega Man's Charge Shot is a chargable side smash attack.

September 2013

September 2, 2013 Pic of the day. Mario Bros., your days are numbered! Donkey Kong in the current build is super strong…but we'll be looking at the battle records when balancing out the characters, so nobody knows how he will turn out in the end. Sakurai remarks Donkey Kong being an especially powerful character during the current stage of development, and explicitly acknowledges the balancing process characters go through during development.
September 3, 2013 Pic of the day. The Villager has two balloons. They can be popped one at a time. Sakurai remarks how Villager's recovery works similar to the Balloon Fighter mechanics. Sakurai also states they can be "popped one at a time", though this doesn't answer if both balloons can be popped at once if a single attack has enough reach to hit both at the same time.
September 4, 2013 Pic of the day. His sliding move was originally used to pass under tight spaces. Sakurai shows off how Mega Man's sliding attack can be used to slide under projectiles.
September 5, 2013 Pic of the day. An encounter in the middle of a marathon...?
September 6, 2013 Pic of the day. Although it'll deal Pit some damage, Thunder Jolt isn't powerful enough to stop the Upperdash Arm! This appears to be showing off some form of armor in Pit's Upperdash Arm.
September 9, 2013 Pic of the day. Nothing to see here--just another airplane passing right above town with people fighting on it.
September 10, 2013 Pic of the day. Isn't Kirby drawn with a familiar artsy style? First screenshot of the Mario Galaxy stage, which wouldn't be seen in full and named until November.
September 11, 2013 Pic of the day. The Pyrosphere viewed from above. The Morph Ball design is also based on the one from Metroid: Other M.
September 12, 2013 Pic of the day. Peach joins the battle! We've added 10 pictures of her on the website, but keep in mind that the game is still in development. Her moves may be refreshed by the time the games are released. Sakurai explicitly remarks that while Peach currently has her old moves, they could be changed into new moves by the final version.
September 13, 2013 Pic of the day. Here comes my Mario…NOT!
September 16, 2013 Pic of the day. Here's the 3DS version of Captain Olimar and an upside down Link. This was the first time Olimar was seen in the 3DS version.
September 17, 2013 Pic of the day. The ladies compare their heights.
September 18, 2013 Pic of the day. Inside the corridor along one of the walls in Pyrosphere, a view that's really not visible in-game. You can't tell from the picture, but it's actually a gigantic open space. Sakurai showing off stage details that can only be seen with game's pause camera.
September 19, 2013 Pic of the day. By any chance, are you hiding something from me?
September 20, 2013 Pic of the day. Pardon us for a sec! Hop! Confirms the return of the Footstool Jump, though Sakurai did not mention nor hint at any potential changes with the technique.
September 23, 2013 Pic of the day. The speed and power of Samus' Charge Shot has been drastically improved. However, that could potentially put her in danger on occasion. Sakurai confirms Samus' Charge Shot will be getting a significant buff, a relief for Samus players as her Charge Shot was notoriously underpowered in Brawl after suffering a significant nerf in it.
September 24, 2013 Pic of the day. The ring is for whom? Sakurai acknowledges a strange ring Peach has been depicted with in each of her Smash appearances, that she has never been depicted with in the Mario games.
September 25, 2013 Pic of the day. Luigi's jump now has him paddling his legs. His vertical leap is undoubtedly high! Sakurai shows off Luigi's altered jumping animation, taken from his jumps in the recent Mario games.
September 26, 2013 Pic of the day. Toon Link joins the battle!! Just look at those innocent cat-eyes! The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD is out in Japan today. Sakurai confirms the return of Toon Link, a rather surprising reveal as Toon Link was one of the most expected veterans to get cut. No obvious changes in Toon Link's appearance and moveset were shown.
September 27, 2013 Pic of the day. Excuse me sir, did you happen to drop this bomb?
September 30, 2013 Pic of the day. The two heroes swing it out with a double Spin Attack! Wouldn't wanna be to the one to get hit.
