Dragon King:The Fighting Game, known in Japan as Kakuto-Gemu Ryuo was a unreleased (and unfinished) low budget 3-D fighting game, and was the first in a planned series of fighting games. The game was originally planned for the SNES/Super Famicom using the Super FX Chip, but was later moved to the Nintendo 64, where it was to make unique use of the joystick on the controller. After deciding to use Nintendo characters to make it sell better, the game became Super Smash Bros., which became a huge success and sparked two even more successful sequels, with a new one currently in the works.

Trivia

In the only screenshots released for the game, the background for the stage the unnamed characters are fighting on is that of the Ryuoh-cho neighborhood, the location of developer HAL Laboratory's Yamanashi headquarters.
