The Nintendo DSi is a new version of the original Nintendo DS Lite. The DSi was released on November 1, 2008 in Japan, April 2, 2009 in Austrailia, April 3 in Europe, and April 5 in North America. It features two cameras, one at the front screen, and one at the back. It doesen't, however, feature a slot for the GBA cartridge, as one of it's few down sides. The Nintendo DS itself is represented in Super Smash Bros. Brawl through the PictoChat stage. PictoChat is a feature on the Nintendo DS in which players can communicate with each other by writing messages (or drawing doodles) on the touch screen.

In addition, many fans wish to see a Super Smash Bros. game for the Nintendo DS. Although both Masahiro Sakurai and Shigeru Miyamoto seemed interested in the idea, they claimed that, for the moment, they were only focusing on Brawl. No statements about a DS Super Smash Bros. game have been made since Brawl's completion. Also, in the one of the backrounds in the trophy hoard features a black Nintendo DS Lite, much like you could see previous Nintendo consoles in it's prequel.
