Xanadu Homecoming - The Last Hurrah was a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate superregional held in Laurel, Maryland on December 28th, 2024. This was the final Xanadu event, as it took place days before the venue was to shut down.
Tournament summaryEdit
#93 seed Noodl made the biggest upset of the event, as he defeated #4 seed NoTag 3-2 for an upset factor of 9. Noodl ultimately placed 5th, well above his seed, and also upset #13 seed Frostbyte 3-1 along the way (upset factor 5), while NoTag was upset by #20 seed Juice 2-3 (upset factor 5) for 25th. In addition, #60 seed BacoN defeated #5 seed Oolong 2-1 (upset factor 7), though Oolong won the runback in the top 8 qualifier, and #144 seed Avail made a similar upset, defeating #16 seed Dexter 2-1 (upset factor 7), though Dexter went on to place just under his seed. Finally, the #1 seed Mr.E also underperformed, losing to #8 seed Chugs 2-3 prior to top 8 (upset factor 5) before falling to Oolong in Losers Round 1 0-3 (upset factor 4) for 7th.
Despite being a MD/VA event, Grand Finals was fought between two North Carolina players, Endothia and Chugs. Due to the event going past midnight and both players residing hours away from the venue, they initially chose to only play a single game, with Chugs going Captain Falcon instead of his main, but was forced to complete the rest of the set. The subsequent games led the commentators to question whether the players were taking the set seriously. Endothia ultimately won 3-0, winning his first and only Xanadu event.
