Salty Island was a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate superregional held at the Hotel Continental Express, in Barranquilla, Colombia from August 17th-18th, 2024. At 144 entrants, it is currently the biggest Smash tournament in Colombia and the ninth-largest Smash tournament in South America.

Tournament summaryEdit

The tournament featured a plethora of international players, among them being Mr. E from the Tristate Area, Chag from Mexico City, Poyo, Nacho, ErickB, Starlee and Andre247 from Peru, Romeo Santos from El Salvador and Peppa, Braixen, and Tsubasa from Chile. Players from Venezuela, including Styx, Calvaflow, morrocoYo, GARU, X-Pelox and Pancakes were also meant to attend the tournament, but because of the current political situation in that country, none of them were able to make it.

A few surprising upsets occured during the first half of bracket, most notably #56 seed Svn_Arrow defeating #9 seed Menma, and #97 seed Gyei defeating #33 seed Nacho. Many of the top Colombian players also saw underperformances at the event, most notable being #6 seed jjcat00 finishing at 17th, and #16 seed BetaMan exiting the tournament at a surprising 33rd. Ultimately the only Colombian player in Top 8 was Flamax, who was able to get an upset on #8 seed Starlee, but was ultimately eliminated at 7th by Romeo Santos.

The second half of the bracket saw some strong runs from two Peruvian players: Nacho and ErickB. Nacho entered top 8 on Winners Side as the #11 seed, defeating jjcat00 and Peppa in order to make it there. He'd lose to Chag, but would continue his run by defeating Romeo Santos in Losers Quarters. ErickB had entered from Losers Side after a loss to Chag in Winners Quarters, not only eliminating Peppa, but upsetting #1 seed Mr. E and eliminating him at 5th place; Mr. E had already been sent to Losers Bracket by Poyo earlier. ErickB would continue through Losers, eliminating Nacho after a close game 5 before being eliminated at 3rd place by Poyo, who had been sent to Losers by Chag and his Min Min earlier. Ultimately Chag would be able to double eliminate Poyo, once again using his Min Min, to take the entire tournament.
