Roy
Updated January 15, 2002

The protagonist from Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade (GBA), who is a model swap character of Marth, joins the battle.

At this point in time (January 2002), the game isn’t available for sale yet.
On the other hand, this is one part of his overall concept.
Out of all of the characters included in Smash, Roy is the only one that will be playable here before his own game is released.

But don't worry.
Even if you are unfamiliar with the source game, you will quickly fall in love with the character after seeing his charm.

Roy, when compared to Marth, personifies an "inexperienced swordsman with potential", and I wanted to add a character that exemplified "youth".
He puts a lot of show and energy into his actions, but his apparent weak points stand out.
It may look like he has the same moves as Marth, but he swings his sword slower.

Unlike Marth, Roy’s attacks are stronger near the hilt of the sword as opposed to the tip.
So try getting close.

He isn't good at fighting in the air because his aerial attacks are much weaker and he falls quicker.

How to unlock:
Clear Classic Mode as Marth without using continues.
Or play 900 versus matches.

Roy. He's also ready for the new Fire Emblem! Roy isn't physically used to the Sword of Seals, and while it has a long reach, the swing is somewhat slow. Blazer. A multi-hit move the envelops the both Roy and the enemy in flames.
Roy's Counter Move.jpg Roy's B move.jpg Roy's Double Edge Dance Move.jpg
The counter deals damage proportionally to the attack the opponent used, but the window to activate the move is actually half the length of Marth's. Roy's special feature, Flare Blade. If you can charge it fully, it deals the most damage of all the characters. Double-Edge Dance also performs slightly differently, so be careful!
