Though Zelda has been confirmed to appear as a playable character, no official evidence of Sheik's return has yet been presented by Nintendo. However, Sheik, along with Ganondorf, are known to have had models sent to Masahiro Sakurai by Eiji Aonuma, director of the Legend of Zelda series.
