The reason given for the move is: That particular title for the mode is also general enough that it can be taken as a broad term for all variants, such as with the Past Stages page. (Discuss)

Special Modes are versus modes available in Super Smash Bros. Melee, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. Although it does not appear in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, many of the Final Battles in Smash Run enable one of the options seen in Special Smash; additionally, voice clip 83 of the announcer in the sound test is of him saying "Special Smash", suggesting that the mode was cut during development.

Modes

Special Melee

In Melee, Special mode is only played with one special condition at a time.

Special Brawl and Smash

Unlike Melee's Special mode, where only one special condition could be played at any time, Special Brawl and Special Smash allow several options to be applied at the same time. One can even play without any options, and simply play a normal match where records are not recorded.

Trivia

  • Although there's a sound clip of the announcer call, "Special Smash", in SSB3DS, there is no Special Smash in-game.
