new melee tier list
self explanatory
Pardon... what?
Alright, to address my latest edit to the news, the reason I changed the date for the Smash service discontinuation is explained in the edit description - received a notice from Nintendo on June 2 that the service would be discontinued at the end of the month, not that it was already discontinued on May 30th.
Now, to address the "June 12th" news that was up there: I hardly think that this glitch, of which I have the highest doubts, is news-worthy. What other glitches are posted in the news for being found? None. Sure, a glitch that makes Master Hand playable would probably be pretty cool and maybe even major, but I just can't believe that after we've played this game for eight years, this "glitch," which could just as easily be an age-old hack, suddenly shows up and makes Master Hand, of all characters, playable? Please, people. We've played this game to death; there's not gonna randomly be a glitch that makes Master Hand playable when we've already been playing as Master Hand with Action Replay codes for years. Nonetheless, if this glitch seems plausible enough when I read about it, I may try it out for myself.
Alright, alright; it seems that this glitch really does exist - but it has since November, so it's hardly new - the root of the word "news" in the first place - anymore. So my editing it out stands, whether people have just recently paid attention to it or not.
Perhaps I'll try this glitch out with a friend at some point. Sounds fun.
Thank you, and good night. Teamrocketspy621 (talk) 01:27, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
- I point everyone who disagrees in the direction of the DOJO!!, on which this notice recently appeared: As of June 30th, 2009, the current service that accepts user-generated snapshots, stage designs, and replay data will no longer be available. Please note, however, that we will continue to distribute such data after that date. I've added it to the news template (it's better to have a direct quote from Nintendo (I substituted the word "Nintendo" for "we")). PenguinofDeath 08:07, 15 June 2009 (UTC)

Brawl is today's Featured Article on English Wikipedia (Oct. 12, 2009). Not really sure if it deserves a spot in the news, seeing how small an effect it will have on the community. The Dark Muse (talk) 01:54, October 13, 2009 (UTC)
Should this
be unlocked? Malake256 (talk) 01:18, 13 December 2010 (EST)
- Clarification? I'm assuming you're saying this page should be unprotected, though this page isn't protected. Omega Tyrant 01:22, 13 December 2010 (EST)
- I meant it like "Should this template really be unlocked?" As in, shouldn't the template be locked? From experience, I suggest cascading protection on main page. Unless you're perfectly alright with regular users posting news. Malake256 (talk) 01:31, 13 December 2010 (EST)
- Well, I really see no use for protecting this page. It is a not a common target for vandalism (in fact, the past 50 edits contained no vandalism, in a time frame that stretches over a year), and it is very probably that news about a new tier list or the results of a national tournament are known by an IP and included by them on here before an admin or user does. So, I'm against protecting this template as of now. Omega Tyrant 02:25, 13 December 2010 (EST)

Project M
Is actually kinda noteworthy, at least in hacking circles. There's also a hefty article about it on AiB. Miles (talk) 20:09, 8 February 2011 (EST)
- I'm not sure. We never had news about the releases of Brawl +, Balanced Brawl, nor Brawl Minus. Also, it's just the demo that been released. Perhaps when the full version comes out we can mention it in our news. Though if we're to do that, we will have to do that for when the complete version of Brawl Minus comes out as well (along with any additional versions of Brawl + and Balanced Brawl). Omega Tyrant 20:25, 8 February 2011 (EST)
- I don't think we should put this kind of stuff in the news at all, because there's always the question of how big/well-known/popular/etc something has to be to be considered notable, which always leads to discussion over whether thing X is notable enough. - I think this is the most important and most expected brawl hack, also, it took years on his development, but the newer versoins should not be in the news. Doomolish (talk) 23:30, 8 February 2011 (EST)
- And now you add P:M to the news? I thought you didn't like it there. Doomolish (talk) 03:14, 18 June 2012 (EDT)

Tournement News
There were two big tourneys this weekend, SKTAR in New Jersey and Smashers's Reunion in Norway. Would adding big Tournements for news be okay? Nocturnal Dragon (talk) 14:34, 17 July 2012 (EDT)

SSB4 at next Nintendo Direct
Take a gander over here [2]. The site doesn't provide a source, so I don't think it can go on the news template yet, but put a smile on your face regardless. The site's trustworthy, they always name rumour-based articles with "Rumor:" at the start. Toast ltimatum 13:58, 17 May 2013 (EDT)
- With futher research made, the source would be a Tweet made by @NintendoAmerica. However, it refers to a Nintendo Direct "before the start of E3", which in my eyes reads "around the time of E3". Toast ltimatum 14:02, 17 May 2013 (EDT)
Not news-worthy in my opinion until the date of any such ND is announced. Toomai Glittershine The Bold 16:24, 17 May 2013 (EDT)
I'm not sure this is worthy of having an entry on the template either, but just to put it out there, a trailer is confirmed. Toast ltimatum 08:49, 6 June 2013 (EDT)
- It can replace the item that currently says it will appear in some way. Toomai Glittershine The Ghostbuster 09:19, 6 June 2013 (EDT)
Melee at Evo
SSB4 news requirements
- New/returning character announced
- New/returning item announced
- New/returning stage announced
- New/returning mode announced
Anything else should probably be checked for notability before being added. Miles (talk) 10:27, 21 August 2013 (EDT)
- Really, a new/returning character announced is the only thing really notable to add in the news. The stages, items, and modes aren't really big in my opinion. All the other news that's going on will be unrecgonized if news about a new stage/item appears every few days. Awesome Cardinal 2000 13:05, 21 August 2013 (EDT)
- How the hell are new stages and modes not big news? Especially modes. I'd argue those are bigger news than characters. DoctorPain99 15:06, 21 August 2013 (EDT)
- I agree with the new items being pointless to be in the news, but I think the stages and modes should stay. The stages are although not as big as characters, they are definitely big enough to be in the news section, and like DP99 said, some modes may be even bigger news than characters.
