New FA

--PSIWolf (TCE) 08:32, 11 August 2011 (EDT)

Yeah, just what I was going to say. --107.5.57.137 07:30, 21 August 2011 (EDT)

We should have this updated every week, with the smash arena. Hey, Toomai!Pokémonultimate File:PTHeadSSBB.png 23:39, 16 November 2011 (EST)

Um, no. We've already had many FA's and I'm pretty sure we're not going to have repeats. Besides, there is not enough articles to make featured every week. BlindColours  23:44, 16 November 2011 (EST)
I'm not opposed to having repeat features, featured articles can be improved significantly since they were featured. Ganondorf (SSBB) for example, got featured even though it is quite the mess. As such, if the article was cleaned up, with its readability significantly improved, I would support featuring it again at some point. I agree however, we don't have enough articles to have a new feature every week, without us either refeaturing articles that haven't been improved since being featured, and/or we'll be featuring articles that are too low of quality to be considered featured articles . Omega Tyrant   01:34, 17 November 2011 (EST)
If every week is too short, then how about every month?, we'd only go through 12 per year, it would provide plenty of time for previously featured articles to be redone, and it would be less unprofessional than having the same one for three months. Pokémonultimate File:PTHeadSSBB.png 23:53, 1 December 2011 (EST)
As of now, I still think a month would be too frequent, as I don't think we have enough high quality articles to feature at such a rate without refeaturing/featuring non deserving articles. I would rather have an article that deserved to be featured up for two to three months, rather than featuring an article that is merely good (or worse). Omega Tyrant   01:09, 2 December 2011 (EST)

yo

Can the featured article can be changed. ..... Ya really   wanna look 22:14, 14 September 2011 (EDT)

Possibly?

on the did you know template, the grab hitbox fact was changed to "in melee and possibly in ssb64." that can't be included. did you know must be confirmed facts, right? 25T16File:HitboxEffect(Flame).png|20pxIt’s a me! 21:58, 19 September 2011 (EDT)

Never mind. 25T16File:HitboxEffect(Flame).png|20pxIt’s a me! 18:53, 24 September 2011 (EDT)

Images

Are there any images of the Control Stick tilted in specific directions, or of specific directions on the Control Pad highlighted? RickTommy (talk) 21:23, 27 September 2011 (EDT)

I don't think so... why asking? Blindcolours TONDA GOSSA. 22:04, 27 September 2011 (EDT)
Brawl and Melee's instruction manuals often show a picture of a button or control stick in a direction instead of saying the button or direction's name when mentioning certain moves. Mr. Anon talk 22:09, 27 September 2011 (EDT)

Affiliates

A thought occurred to me. For those who are unaware, The Runaway Guys is a group of three well-known LPers on YouTube (Chuggaaconroy, ProtonJon, & NintendoCapriSun). Chuggaaconroy has previously affiliated with Bulbapedia and Super Mario Wiki, both NIWA founders. The Runaway Guys' newest LP is the SSE. Should we consider trying to affiliate with them, if they're up for it? Miles (talk) 13:52, 3 October 2011 (EDT)

Chuggaa rocks, and I guess the others do too. I say "let's try", though I don't really care if nothing happens, I guess.--  PSIWolf (TCE) 13:57, 3 October 2011 (EDT)
Why not? I've watched all both TRG and Chugga for a while, I know they'll go for it. 25T16File:HitboxEffect(Flame).png|20pxIt’s a me! 22:33, 3 October 2011 (EDT)
Basically, if we get enough consensus, I'll send them a message about it using the SmashWiki YT channel. I wouldn't presume to use that channel for anything like this without the community's clear support, though, hence the asking. Miles (talk) 22:55, 3 October 2011 (EDT)

I have no problem with this. Omega Tyrant   22:57, 3 October 2011 (EDT)

Barring any opposition, I'll send them a message tomorrow. Miles (talk) 17:32, 4 October 2011 (EDT)

Great. Hopefully this might help the search rankings. BlindColours FALCON... 18:06, 4 October 2011 (EDT)

So...what happened? BlindColours ...PUNCH!!! 09:46, 9 October 2011 (EDT)
I sent the message to the Runaway Guys' channel, and have received no response. My guess is it was lost in a large pile of messages.
If I don't get any response in the next few days, I'll send a message to Chuggaaconroy's "business" contact method. Miles (talk) 14:08, 9 October 2011 (EDT)
Did you already do that now?--  PSIWolf (TCE) 08:06, 21 October 2011 (EDT)

Navigation

Now that I'm underway with the List of SSBB Music articles, should Music be added to the Navigation section on the homepage? Either now, or at least once the project is finished. After all, the trophy articles are part of the navigation, so music should be as well. ToastUltimatum  Complaints Box 08:57, 17 October 2011 (EDT)

I'll get around to making a category soon, as that'll probably be necessary. ToastUltimatum  Complaints Box 08:59, 17 October 2011 (EDT)
I've made the category now, [[Category:Music (SSBB)]] . So it should be fine to add this to the navigation now, right? ToastUltimatum  Complaints Box 06:33, 18 October 2011 (EDT)
Good idea.--  PSIWolf (TCE) 06:33, 18 October 2011 (EDT)

Great work to all of you

Oh look...

This wiki now ranks first place in google search results. We can now all breath a sigh of relief, knowing that Smashwikia will never catch up to us. Mr. Anon talk 18:26, 22 October 2011 (EDT)

I noticed that too. I have a good feeling that the YouTube channel was a major factor in this. BlindColours Thank you for reading my sig. 18:28, 22 October 2011 (EDT)
It doesn't come up first for me...--  PSIWolf (TCE) 03:51, 23 October 2011 (EDT)
It's different for all users, depending on past search history/page history/etc. There were a few tests on IRC that concluded that unbiased "fresh" browsers saw us first. Toomai Glittershine   The Jiggy 09:51, 23 October 2011 (EDT)

SSB Games

I believe the Main page needs links to the three games in the Smash series. Clicking on "Games" redirects to the list of pages in the "Games" category wich is a bit confusing. I think it'd be best to simply use the games icons used in the ArticleIcons template to put in the middle of the page, but a bit bigger, just like every other NIWA wiki has.--Kombatgod (talk) 14:57, 18 January 2012 (EST)

I don't really know what you're referring to with "like every other NIWA wiki has". In addition, we already have links to the three SSB games in the sidebar, so I don't see what the point of having links on the main page would be. Toomai Glittershine   The Researcher 16:40, 18 January 2012 (EST)
Oh, I didn't noticed the sidebar. Yeah, that works fine, but you know I'm new to the wiki, so I'm trying to give you a "visitor" point of view. What I was talking about are the little Link faces in Zelda Wiki or those diamonds in Metroid Wiki. You know something visual. Well actually I made a mistake, those are like the only two wikis to have that, but still I find it very useful, specially for a short series like SSB. (having all Mario titles in the main page would take the whole space!)--Kombatgod (talk) 17:01, 18 January 2012 (EST)
They're in the sidebar since, being that there are only three games at the moment, they are easily accessible from anywhere on the wiki. Miles (talk) 17:09, 18 January 2012 (EST)
Ah yes, the icon-based game bars. Yeah, Smash Bros. doesn't really have enough games at the moment to justify having one of those. I'd say the sweetspot for having an icon-based game bar would be in the 7-20 range. Toomai Glittershine   Da Bomb 18:43, 18 January 2012 (EST)

Toomai has a point. There are already icons on pages (upper-left hand corner) for the three games, so it is not necessary. LightningBlue: Electric!  18:51, 18 January 2012 (EST)

Ok, then.--Kombatgod (talk) 19:54, 18 January 2012 (EST)

Tier list?

How do I make a tier list on my home page? Please tell. Meta Ike (talk) 09:58, 17 February 2012 (EST)

For one thing it is called a "User Page". I suggest searching tier on this site and finding the formatting for the table. LightningBlue: Electric! 10:47, 17 February 2012 (EST)

Thanks! Meta Ike (talk) 12:35, 17 February 2012 (EST)

Making Vector the default skin

How do you guys feel about making Vector the default skin? I think it's a little more modern (it is the new MediaWiki default over Monobook) and matches the logo nicely too. Both skins would be kept—this is really about what guests would see. --Porplemontage (talk) 13:48, 24 February 2012 (EST)

Vector takes up more space at the top of the page, and fractionally more at the side, meaning that more of the page is taken up by navigation, rather than content. Also, this seems fairly pointless, as the added area is mainly whitespace. It's not as bad as, for example, Wikia's Oasis for this, but it's still not ideal to be removing about an inch of content space. Vector also puts the search bar in a weird place: the top of a page should be navigation to do with that page, and the left side should be navigation to do with the wiki, so placing the search bar to the right of the edit button is bizarre, especially seeing as Vector otherwise sticks to those rules. The new background does indeed work better with the logo, and it looks shinier and arguably prettier, but I find it less functional. I can see that it would attract new users, but other than that I don't see the point in changing from Monobook. PenguinofDeath 14:11, 24 February 2012 (EST)
I agree with everything PoD said in addition to the following: all the functionality tabs other than "edit" and "history" are hidden in a somewhat inconspicuous dropdown menu. Toomai Glittershine   The Irrepressible 14:37, 24 February 2012 (EST)
Yeah, I prefer Monobook over vector. Mr. Anon talk 21:40, 24 February 2012 (EST)
Why switch to Vector just to change the background skin when we can just change the background skin? Stick with Monobook. BTW, does anyone find a change in background skin viable? Toast  ltimatum  07:26, 25 February 2012 (EST)
No, I don't. So yeah, I prefer MonoBook over Vector, too. And on a side note, why aren't we able to use other MediaWiki skins such as Classic, Nostalgia, Cologne Blue, etc? RickTommy (talk) 07:32, 25 February 2012 (EST)
I think Vector only looks good if it is customised. If SmashWiki was to be given a unique look, then Vector would be good. Otherwise, stick with Monobook. The Solar Dragon (Talk - Contribs.) 10:42, 25 February 2012 (EST)

Top-page notice

It's been more than "a few days" since that notice about signature images was put up. So should it be changed now? RickTommy (talk) 21:13, 2 March 2012 (EST)

There are still many users failing to abide this rule, so we have to keep it. One thing we can change, though, is the Featured Article ‹/small>(bump) Toast  ltimatum  08:22, 3 March 2012 (EST)
