Forums: Index Smash Arena Smash Arena Suggestions

This forum has the purpose of helping to select what battles will eventually take place in the Smash Arena. If you would like to make a suggestion, please feel free to leave it here. New suggestions are placed at the bottom of the page. Be sure to state your reason you suggested it and put the support, reject, and comments sections underneath it.

Like the idea? Be sure to give it your support. Note that this page is not to be used for the actual voting between fighters; that happens in the Arena itself. Remember, the combatants don't necessarily have to be able to fight each other normally in Smash Bros.

Rules

  • The SA operator(s) has final say over all the fights. Suggestions and comments are merely a way for the community to influence the fights.
  • Sign your suggestions/votes/comments with ~~~~ and a # in front of it (you don't necessarily have to put # in the comments sections, but you do have to sign with ~~~~).
  • Don't vote for your own suggestion. You automatically vote for it if you suggest it.
  • Do not post more than one suggestion at a time. Each user may post one suggestion per week.
  • Post why you support/oppose. Don't just say, "Oh, this is a cool idea". Explain why you like/don't like the fight.
  • You can remove your own suggestion, but it still counts as your suggestion for that week.
  • Similarly to the above, you cannot edit a suggestion once people have started to vote on it. Editing the description is fine; just don't replace, add, or remove combatants.
  • Place new suggestions at the bottom of the page. If you place them at the top, they may be lost.
  • Do not use this page to argue with other users over their reasons and opinions. You can civilly point out an inconsistency or mistake in their description, but if you say things like, "That's stupid", that could potentially start an argument in the comments, you are breaching this rule.
  • The comments section is to be used for relevant comments.
  • Check this list to view the fights that have been done. Repeat fights are permitted if they occurred 100 or more rounds ago.
  • Suggestions are purged every time a new Smash Arena round is posted. It is at this time they are either accepted and placed into the queue, or they are rejected. Not all suggestions are purged at once.
  • In the vein of the above, do not repost a suggestion of yours that has been removed, since it's either already lined up or been rejected. Reposting it after time has passed is generally a bad idea, since if it's already in the queue it's a waste of time, and if it was rejected the first time chances are it will remain that way. See the Queue section for an idea of how long it may take for your suggestion to show up.
  • Only Smash Bros.-related fights are permitted. Fights don't have to be between playable characters, but the combatants must have appeared in at least one Smash Bros. game.
  • Acceptance of fights is not based simply on votes. The votes are used to judge the community's opinion of the matchup; again it is solely the operator(s)'s decision on what the bouts are.
  • If there are already 10 open suggestions, you should probably reconsider adding a new one. If there are 15, it is highly recommended you do not. There is no limit to the number of open suggestions, but having too many clutters the page and makes it more difficult to keep track of.
  • And finally, do not make this page into the Smash Arena itself. This is for deciding what goes there, not voting on which would win.

Queue

The current queue is as such:

257 258 259 260 261 262 263 264 265

Hover the cursor over a round number to see its predicted start date. Empty spots are shown in grey.

When the queue becomes full (all the grey spots are filled up), suggestions will be suspended. You may continue to vote on current suggestions, but no more may be proposed. Once the queue drains out to a size of one, suggestions will be re-opened.

The queue is not set in stone; new suggestions may appear before older ones and it may change at any time. The queue is designed to attempt to balance out fights so that participants or universes aren't used too much in a short time.

The contents of the queue are a secret to maintain mystery and intrigue.

Lugia vs. Ho-Oh

Once again, two Poké Ball Pokémon fight in the arena! Will the fiery Rainbow Pokémon take the goods, or will he be stopped by the other member of the Tower Duo, Lugia? We haven't had a Poké Ball Pokémon fight since Round 78 (Suicune vs. Deoxys), and I thought it was a creative way to implement items in the Arena; I'd love to see a sort of sequel of that Legendary Pokémon fight, but from the same generation. So, there you have it! What do you think? MeleeMarth01Merry Christmas!

  1. No way! I was literally going to post this exact same fight as soon as Suggestions re-opened! But I go away from internet access for one day, and someone beats me to it. Toast  ltimatum  14:18, 24 December 2011 (EST)
  2. On second thoughts, I see a few similarities. Both fly behind the stage and their attacks are their signature moves from the games. Both attacks can cause devastating amounts of damage and can even OHKO opponents. ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 17:28, 24 December 2011 (EST)

  1. While the overall idea is nice, there are many pokeball character connections that could fight eachother. Each one is plenty notable and I'm not even a Pokemon fan at all! Ex. Mew vs Jirachi or Charizard vs Blastoise vs Venasaur or Staryu vs Chekoria. All good connections.Drakon64

#While related in the main series Pokemon games and anime, they are not similar in the SSB series. I remember the Groudon vs. Kyogre fight being denied as they didn't have any similarities in SSB. This reason stands for here. ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 17:20, 24 December 2011 (EST)

  1. A 3-way fight should only be used for 3 major figures, where a 2-way wouldn't work (e.g. Squirtle vs. Ivysaur wouldn't be complete). These just aren't important enough to warrant a 3-way fight, nor does it even need to be. Giant Charizard only appeared in one event match (well, technically two) in Brawl, so the fight doesn't need it. Toast  ltimatum  15:09, 24 December 2011 (EST)

  5. While I think the current reasons in oppose are terrible, I oppose this on the grounds that Giant Charizard sticks out to me as the oddball, and to do a three way match, I'd like to see three fighters with even similarities, for example: Squrtile v. Ivysaur v. Charizard. DoctorPain99 {ROLLBACKER} 12:29, 27 December 2011 (EST)
  6. Agree with Dr. Pain on prior oppose reasons being poor. My reasoning for opposing: 1.) Does having the characters giant make a difference? Is anyone that would vote for Bowser normally going to suddenly vote for Charizard or DK because they're giant? 2.) The three really have nothing between them for a three way match, and King Dedede would be better for a super heavyweight three way. Omega Tyrant   20:00, 27 December 2011 (EST)

ToastUltimatum if they have an arena with the only connections being castle and stage, this won't be that hard to fit in.Drakon64

But that was only a two-way fight. Two-way fights can consist of anything, but a 3-way only happens under rare circumstances, and therefore should feature important combatants. Giant DK vs. Giant Bowser would be enough on its own. Though it would get opposed anyway, because we've already had DK vs. Bowser :P Toast  ltimatum  15:17, 24 December 2011 (EST)
It's not the characters that made them special together, it's their traits as giants. All appear at least twice in Smash Bros and all are in events. Plus it's supposed to be a Smash Bros rendition of Godzilla, King Kong and Rodan (or King Ghidorah). Drakon64

ReDead vs. Bucculus

These two enemies from the adventure modes aren't very mobile, until the players comes near, where they then give chase until defeated or have captures their prey. They latch onto the player, sucking the life force out of them, before releasing the player. These enemies, while they never can KO the player directly, are an nuance to pass, and the damage they deal set the player up for KOs from stronger enemies. Giga Bowser vs Yoshi Dragon

One, the fearsome transformation of the King of Koopas, the other, the culmination of powerups given to the humble warrior. 3. Yoshi Dragon isn't a true transformation, as he can only fly, spew fire and ram into opponents. Giga is a true transformation. He has all of Bowser's powers plus more. Yoshi Dragon is not similar in form, as Yoshi looks like an angel Yoshi while Giga is a demonic form of Bowser, both differ in power, size, controllability and overall usefulness. I'm not going to directly oppose this, but I'm very neutral towards this fight. Besides being Mario-based, and both possessing t3h ph1re (though quite minmally with Giga Bowser), they aren't overly similar. One is a huge tyrant, the other is Yoshi with wings. Like I said, I am still neutral, so I won't mind if this fight pops up in the Smash Arena, but I won't give explicit support towards it. Toast  ltimatum  10:35, 28 December 2011 (EST)

  4. The description for this matchup is flawed (claims of them being the second most popular character is questionable at best, and Tails' superior abilities over Sonic isn't a higher jump). On the basis of them being second fiddle characters that have superior abilities to the main protagonist, I would probably support, if not for the fact Tails' role in Smash is limited to a minor background cameo on a single stage. 1. While creative, the description leaves out the fact Lethal Marathon is an actual race to the finish, while the latter is just a timed survival battle on a moving stage. It would be better to pair the latter event with King of the Mountain, which is the actual functional equivalent event of Melee, and not Lethal Marathon. Omega Tyrant   08:58, 1 January 2012 (EST)
  2. Letah Marathon makes you race to the finish against the F-Zero machines while using a custom stage for it. Super Bowser Bros. puts you in a race in a stage that you could have played multiple times, and pits you against Marios. MegaTron1XD  10:02, 1 January 2012 (EST)

@Omega Tyrant; Or if the suggestion was to be cross-generational between Melee and Brawl, then Super Waterfall Climb could take Super Bowser Bros.' position. I still like the way it is, however.

Really, it can be either. A vote could be influenced by the ship or the stage. If one were to place a vote on this fight, they could say "Great Fox is Nintendo's best battleship", or they could say "Corneria is my favourite stage in Melee/Brawl". Perhaps in hindsight, Battleship Halberd vs. Great Fox might've been smarter, but I don't think I can change it now that it has been voted on. Toast  ltimatum  09:26, 1 January 2012 (EST)
