SmashArena.png

Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome, editors and users, to the Smash Arena! Each week this forum hosts a tussle between two characters, items, stages or anything else from the Super Smash Bros. series! The winner gets, well, nothing. It's more of a poll but functionally, this is a popularity contest. You may vote for your favorite or who you think would win in an competition between the two combatants that round. No, you don't have to vote for the character with strength & power, just vote if you are a total fanboy of the character. So what are you waiting for? Get voting! Remember, you can remain anonymous! If you have any requests for future fights, please feel free to leave a message here.

The Rules

  1. When voting, you can give a brief comment on why you voted the way you did, or you can just leave your signature.
  2. You can only vote once. Any multiple votes will be removed.
  3. Put a # before your vote to facilitate the vote counting.
  4. Type ~~~~ after your vote to sign it, whether you are logged in or not. Using the wrong number of "~"s counts as not signing - your signature must have both your signature itself and the time.
  5. There is a line in each section consisting of "DO NOT ADD COMMENTS OR EDIT ANYTHING BELOW THIS LINE". You are to do so; do not just type your vote at the bottom of the editing window. Not following this rule results in your vote being displayed in the wrong place.
  6. Put your vote below other votes; that is, so the votes are in chronological order.
  7. Any comments about the fight should be left in the comment section. However, you are not to post argumentative, accusative, or any sort of comment with the intention of starting an argument with someone on the opposing side. The Smash Arena is a popularity contest, there's no need to argue with the other side on why your choice is superior, or why they are wrong with their reasoning for picking their choice. You are also not to post comments that are just pointing out/complaining how close/one sided a matchup is. These sorts of comments are worthless, and do nothing but make an already large page larger.
  8. You may only vote in the current fight; all previous fights are closed.
  9. Do not leave a space between your comment and the ones above it (and/or below it).
  10. If there are multiple fights in a single round, try to make all your votes in a single edit.

If your vote is not added correctly - that is, it breaks rules 3, 4, or 5 - you have one hour to fix it. After this time, it may be moved by any user to the Half-Votes section (adding the unsigned template if necessary), and it will count as half a vote. Attempting to move your vote out of the Half-Votes section may result in it being worth zero at an operator's discretion. In addition, if your votes-to-rulebreaks ratio climbs too high, your votes may count for zero until the ratio drops to an acceptable level.

Intentional half-votes undermine the intent of the half-vote system as a way to punish voters for voting incorrectly. It is legal to want a vote to be worth half, but it is very heavily discouraged, and you must state in your vote you want it to be worth half.

Round 103: Pokémon Stadium vs. Pokémon Stadium 2

Winner!!
undecided

0 to 0
Two stages that are similar in every way - except for the fact that one's based on fire, water, plants, and stone, whereas the other represents air, electricity, ice, and earth. Which locale is less of a loser?

Votes for Pokémon Stadium

  1. Hell yeah Blindcolours Stop smiling, it makes me happy. 19:39, 9 September 2011 (EDT)
  2. More fair. Mr. Anon (talk) 20:04, 9 September 2011 (EDT)
  3. Less cheap deaths. ƋoӄԏoяΠɛəи99 {ROLLBACKER} 20:39, 9 September 2011 (EDT)
  4. First stage I ever played in Melee. Ever. I don't think I even used Pokémon Stadium 2 in Brawl until I played on Pokémon Stadium five or six times. ReiDemon 22:53, 9 September 2011 (EDT)
  5. yeah. ..... Ya really   wanna look 23:22, 9 September 2011 (EDT)
  6. Kidding me? Pokemon Stadium is my favourite Smash stage ever, and as if that wasn't enough, my second favourite piece of video game music ever plays here. --81.156.186.185 07:11, 10 September 2011 (EDT)
  7. This stage feels more like Pokémon than the other one. Squishyfrog Chat 12:19, 10 September 2011 (EDT)
  8. I like melee better than Brawl, so... --Akirra' says: Meow! =^_^= 14:01, 10 September 2011 (EDT)
  9. I play on this stage more often --50.99.198.152 14:34, 10 September 2011 (EDT)
  10. stadium 2 is cheap. Floor2000x (talk) 15:18, 10 September 2011 (EDT)
  11. Still hasn't gotten old from my childhood.-Ivy73  15:23, 10 September 2011 (EDT)
  12. Johto music is enough to satisfy me. --FireEmblemFan275 (talk) 01:36, 11 September 2011 (EDT)
  13. This clash is a very tough one; both stages house excellent transformations and music...while I prefer the elements of Pokémon Stadium 1 as they are representative of the traditional types of each region's starter Pokémon, the elements of Fire and Water were poorly showcased in practice and just felt like bland terrain alterations. However, Pokémon Stadium 2 does look much prettier, with slightly cooler transformation icons and background Pokémon (plus a supposed Easter Egg!); the transformations actually make sense in correlation to their types (i.e., ELECTRIC-powered conveyor belt, ICY terrain). Both also feature arrangements of the classic "Pokémon Main Theme". Yet only one has the awesome medley of tracks from Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Crystal (2nd Generation), which sways my vote thusly! =D 131.193.13.53 04:11, 12 September 2011 (EDT)
  14. --HavocReaper48 15:18, 12 September 2011 (EDT)

this has T3H PH1RE. Pokémonultimate (talk) 23:02, 13 September 2011 (EDT)

  2. I like this stage's simplicity in terms of the alternate stages. James<3 (talk) 19:08, 10 September 2011 (EDT)

Votes for Pokémon Stadium 2

  1. The Flying tier is fun. Next, there'll be Pokémon Stadium 3 with Dark (Very Dark), Steel (High Gravity), Bug (Anthill to the left) and Dragon (Oriental statue with platforms) tiers! ToastUltimatum  Complaints Box 19:46, 9 September 2011 (EDT)
  2. The changing stages here actually effect the fight with conveor belts and fans and the like. More fun. --174.59.4.202 22:45, 9 September 2011 (EDT)
  3. I liked that there were background Pokemon in this stage. 110.174.90.69 23:07, 9 September 2011 (EDT)
  4. Pokemon Stadium (not this one) doesn't have any special changes on the stage 206.53.148.144 01:09, 10 September 2011 (EDT)
  5. This stadium represents cooler elements, looks cooler has pokemon cameos, and has a secret easter egg inside the ice hut. Mastersword (talk) 01:47, 10 September 2011 (EDT)
  6. I prefer this one. ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 04:11, 10 September 2011 (EDT)

  8. The Elements are better Cherrim98 (talk) 12:55, 10 September 2011 (EDT)
  9. I used to not really like this stage, and saw the transformation as dreadful. However, after giving it a chance, I have come to really like this stage. Its matchup balance is probably the best of any stage in Brawl, it doesn't have weird ledges like Pokemon Stadium, and its transformations actually aren't as bad as Pokemon Stadium's. Pokemon Stadium 2 has rather bland music compared to Pokemon Stadium, but that is easily fixable with music hacks. Omega Tyrant   18:21, 10 September 2011 (EDT)
  10. I get more enjoyment from the transformations of this stage. 66.222.171.225 23:56, 10 September 2011 (EDT)
  11. Transformation including specials! (Excluding Ground or Rock or whatever) Kirbythe   Amazing Know my power! 04:46, 11 September 2011 (EDT)

Note to User:110.174.90.69: that's apparently a point of contention about whether they are Pokemon or really pixelated people. Mr. Anon (talk) 00:51, 10 September 2011 (EDT)

No I meant the actual 3D Pokemon that appear when the stadium changes, like in the Ice-type area there's Snorunt and Snover. 110.174.90.69 01:00, 10 September 2011 (EDT)

Swadloon we voted the same again Cherrim98 (talk) 12:58, 10 September 2011 (EDT)

Grass-type instincts. Though in my teams, I'm primarily Ground-based. ToastUltimatum  Complaints Box 13:23, 10 September 2011 (EDT)
I don't think this is worthwhile discussion on the comments. There is a 50% probability of you two voting the same, so it isn't something necessary to note. Mr. Anon (talk) 16:48, 10 September 2011 (EDT)

This is simply to close for me. I might have chosen Stadium 2 since it was the first stage I played Brawl on, but I like the first one, too. No vote for me. 25T16 File:HitboxEffect(Flame).png It’s a me! 09:39, 11 September 2011 (EDT)

HOLY SHIT THIS IS CLOSE! Mr. Anon (talk) 15:28, 12 September 2011 (EDT)

Remember what rule #7 says, don't post comments that are just commenting on how close the match is. Omega Tyrant   20:57, 12 September 2011 (EDT)

Round 102: Flare Blade vs. Eruption

Winner!!
Flare Blade

22.5 to 14.5
Two charge-up sword attacks that, if allowed to wind up to maximum strength, produce large explosions almost guarenteed to KO. Which has the bigger bang?

Votes for Flare Blade

  1. Always loved this one. Miles (talk) 18:24, 2 September 2011 (EDT)
  2. Because Roy, dammit. ReiDemon 18:26, 2 September 2011 (EDT)
  3. Such an easy choice. Blindcolours tappity Tappity TAPPITY 18:31, 2 September 2011 (EDT)
  4. Two sword charges, hmm? When fully charged, one creates a giant freaking explosion by slamming a sword onto the floor while the other plunges a sword into the ground making a lackluster bust of flame. In my opinion, the choice is clear. Squishyfrog Chat 19:31, 2 September 2011 (EDT)

  16. Immense power move, this is. Eruption pales in comparison. 98.242.123.228 10:07, 5 September 2011 (EDT)
  17. I always picked Roy over Marth just because the fire made him look cooler! Anthony1996 (talk) 01:58, 7 September 2011 (EDT)
  18. Flare blade is simply the better move. It's faster, has better reach, and more edgeguarding capability. Omega Tyrant   17:26, 8 September 2011 (EDT)
  19. I've major burnout at the moment, so I have nothing to say. It's simply a better move. Hawk 21 (talk) 23:59, 8 September 2011 (EDT)

Half-Votes

Votes for Eruption

  1. Difficult, this. But I don't remember Flare Blade having much effect unless at pretty high charge, while Eruption is powerful regardless. Plus, Flare Blade will get tons of votes saying t3h ph1re, so I'll say Eruption ToastUltimatum  Complaints Box 18:30, 2 September 2011 (EDT)
  2. Even when it isn't fully charged, I've still had an easier time KOing opponents with this thanks to the moves vertical knockback when not fully charged. 66.222.171.225 18:44, 2 September 2011 (EDT)
  3. I remember once, when I was testing this move's OHKO possibility. I had told my cousin at the beginning of the match "just come over here. I'm trying to test whether this is a OHKO. Don't worry, it probably won't work". Guess what? It did. Mr. Anon (talk) 20:28, 2 September 2011 (EDT)

  8. I've never played Melee, so I know nothing about Flare Blade.--  PSIWolf (TCE) 08:22, 3 September 2011 (EDT)

Wow, somebody actually used the new rule on half-voting I accidentally introduced! I feel so responsible... ToastUltimatum  Complaints Box 19:18, 2 September 2011 (EDT)

Uhm, read the talk page. I was the one who suggested and argued for the allowance of intentional half votes. Omega Tyrant   19:40, 2 September 2011 (EDT)
Yeah, you were the one responsible for it becoming legal. But I like to say I accidentally introduced it, because on the particular round, I was new to the wiki and hadn't thoroughly read the rules, so I didn't know what I did was illegal. Yet, next thing I know, a whole argument for legalisation happened, and the rule was introduced, all because I didn't know the true purpose of half-voting. That's why I think of it as a rule I brought in by accident. Credit to you for making it legal! ToastUltimatum  Complaints Box 20:01, 2 September 2011 (EDT)

@PSIWolf Dude, someone needs to get you a copy of Melee. Now. 25T16   It's-a me! 11:37, 3 September 2011 (EDT)

@25T16 But Eruption is a OHKO as well. ToastUltimatum  Complaints Box 12:15, 3 September 2011 (EDT)

Not at 0% damage, which is what a OHKO is classified as. Even a stage 8 Eruption won't cause insta-kill. 25T16   It's-a me! 21:06, 3 September 2011 (EDT)
The OHKO article claims it can kill at 0%, and other comments here say it can. Imma test it myself soon. ToastUltimatum  Complaints Box 21:11, 3 September 2011 (EDT)
Be my guest, I may be wrong, but it's never worked for me. :\ 25T16   It's-a me! 21:21, 3 September 2011 (EDT)
A stage 8 Eruption is indeed an OHKO on Final Destination on all but Bowser, DK, Snake, King Dedede, Ganondorf, Ike, Captain Falcon, and Link, when it has the freshness bonus. As such, I say it's strong enough to be classified as an OHKO. Omega Tyrant   12:02, 4 September 2011 (EDT)
Ahhhhh. Freshness was the key word. Thank you. 25T16   It's-a me! 13:08, 4 September 2011 (EDT)

@Anthony--> Marth? it's IKE dude! (-O-)Lucas-IV- pikaaaa  11:04, 7 September 2011 (EDT)

I think he's saying he liked Roy better than Marth in Melee. It's kinda hard to compare Roy and Ike, Melee and Brawl are so different... --174.59.4.202 11:36, 7 September 2011 (EDT)

Toast utanimum a.k.a swadloon Why do me AND you always have the same votes Cherrim98 (talk) 16:18, 7 September 2011 (EDT)

I had a look through the past fights and this is the first time we've voted for the same thing in many rounds. You voted a different option in the last round, and every fight in the Super-Centennial. Although, love of the almighty Swadloon is shared. If you were a cocoon, you'd be fed up too! ToastUltimatum  Complaints Box 09:27, 8 September 2011 (EDT)
