Forums: Index Smash Arena Smash Arena Suggestions

An icon used in notice templates. NOTE: Do NOT edit each section individually. Edit the entire page as a whole if you are going to be commenting on more than one suggestion.

This forum has the purpose of helping to select what battles will eventually take place in the Smash Arena. If you would like to make a suggestion, please feel free to leave it here. New suggestions are placed at the bottom of the page. Be sure to state your reasons why you suggested it and put the support, reject, and comments sections underneath it.

Like the idea? Be sure to give it your support. Note that this page is not to be used for the actual voting between fighters; that happens in the Arena itself. Remember, the combatants don't necessarily have to be able to fight each other normally in Smash.

Rules

  • The SA runners have final say over all the fights.
  • Sign your suggestions/votes/comments with ~~~~ and a # in front of it (you don't necessarily have to put # in the comments sections, but you do have to sign with ~~~~).
  • Don't vote for your own suggestion. You automatically vote for it if you suggest it.
  • Do not post more that one fight at a time; about one week between suggestions is fine.
  • Post WHY you support/oppose. Don't say, "Oh, Link is much better than Snake"! Explain why you like the fight.
  • You can remove your own suggestion, but this doesn't mean you can immediately replace it.
  • Place new suggestions at THE BOTTOM of page. If you place them at the top, they may be lost.
  • Do NOT use this page to argue with other users over their reasons and opinions. You can civilly point out an inconsistency or mistake in their description, but if you say things like "That's so stupid" that could potentially start an argument in the Comments, you are breaching the rule.
  • The comments section is to be used for relevant comments.
  • Check this list to view any fights that have been done; currently no repeat fights are permitted.
  • If a fight you suggested is removed, do not repost it. Either it was removed because it was deemed to not have enough support to be used, or it was removed because it has been placed into the queue. You may repost a failed fight if it has been some time since it was rejected.
  • Only Smash Bros.-related fights are permitted. Fights don't have to be between playable characters, but the combatants must have appeared in at least one Smash Bros. game.
  • And finally, do not make this page into the Smash Arena itself. This is for deciding what goes there, not voting on which would win.

Link vs. Samus

A young skilled swordsman with a sword, shield, and a large amount of weapons against a young woman with a technological exoskeleton at her disposal--Power courage wisdom and time (talk) 21:17, January 17, 2010 (UTC)

  1. Well, the battle description needs a major rewrite, but I think this will turn out to be quite an interesting battle…the new vs. the old, among other things. RAN1 03:38, January 18, 2010 (UTC)
  2. Their specials are very similar, they're one of the originals, let's give this a chance. HavocReaper48 00:30, January 20, 2010 (UTC)
  3. The two biggest projectile users in the series plus they are more than cabaple of fighting up close (at least they could in Melee). Very good matchup.Omega Tyrant   02:01, April 21, 2010 (UTC)

  • I would like to counter the first opposition,

1.They are both projectile smashers.

2. Both have appeared in all three SSB games.

3. Both have varations, Link and Toon Link, Samus and Zero Suit Samus

Also I'm also open to any new battle description--Power courage wisdom and time (talk) 04:24, January 18, 2010 (UTC)

You would have better time saying that Link and mario would be a better battle. "They are both projectile smashers", "Both have appeared in all three SSB games", and they both also have variations, Toon Link and Dr. Mario. Toon Link cannot be compared to Zamus. At all. The only three things I see in common are
  1. The both have recoveries that involve spinning
  2. They both have tethers as grabs
That's all. They're games are different, Metroid being an FPS while LoZ being an RPG. Different personalities, Samus being a bounty hunter while Link being... an explorer? Only suggest something if it's very similar or "parallel"- like Master Hand and Crazy hand. 98.117.158.220 05:28, January 19, 2010 (UTC)
Link versus Samus is much more original than Link versus Mario and both their first games were non-linear, also the point is that they are near polar opposites, One is more medieval era and one is futuristic, not to mention they are of about the same age and of different genders. (That is not meant to be takin as a sexist comment.) They were both created to attract a wider fanbase, Link as an RPG and Samus as an First Person shooter. You yourself, have even mentioned two more similiarties. They also both have their own loyal fanbase. Anything else?--Power courage wisdom and time (talk) 01:08, January 20, 2010 (UTC)
For the sake of accuracy, the Metroid series is not an FPS. That's the Prime series. I doubt anyone would call Metroid Fusion an FPS. RAN1 01:21, January 20, 2010 (UTC)
Pikmin is futuristic and has a loyal fanbase, but does that mean that Zelda and Pikmin are similar? of course not. Metroid was originaly a sidescroller, Legend of Zelda was not. And them being different genders means nothing. And they are not the same age. Link is a teenages/ young boy and Samus is an adult. Link refers to many people. Samus refers to one. LoZ is not Midevil; they have trains. And their attacks are not similar at the least. 98.117.158.220 02:14, January 20, 2010 (UTC)

For the sake of my sanity let us refer to Link as the one who appears in Twilight Princess, Since that is the Link the SSBB on is based off of. Pikmin is more cormmical, Zelda and Metroid series have more serious themes to them. Metroid was created from the non-linearity of The Legend of Zelda series and the side-scrolling of Mario. Link is of about the age of 18, no more. Samus is about the age of her younger twenties (???). Pretty close age group. In Twilight Princess, it is obviously medieval there are no trains. Once more with the attacks, projectile smashers, spinning recovery, they grab with an item allowing farther range, and they're arrow/charge shot can be powered up depending on how long you hold the button. Anymore comments? :P--Power courage wisdom and time (talk) 23:02, January 20, 2010 (UTC)

Ok. Look. This has gone far enough. It is his personal opinion that they have nothing in common. Others may feel that but there will be some who agree with you. It is the same on lots of battles here. There is no need for an argument about it. ☆The Solar Dragon (Talk)☆ 07:08, January 21, 2010 (UTC)

Pikachu vs Jigglypuff

Battle of the original Pokémon in the Super Smash Bros. series. Pikachu, the electric mouse vs. Jigglypuff, the pink ball. Both were in from the start, rivaling each other as the best Pokémon. ☆The Solar Dragon (Talk)☆ 14:17, March 13, 2010 (UTC)

  1. Just because they were the two playable pokemon in the original doesn't mean this will be a good matchup, especially since Jigglypuff shouldn't have been in Smash Bros. in the first place (Mewtwo should have been in both the first SSB and in Brawl instead of Jigglypuff). Also, Pikachu and Jigglypuff are far, far , FAR from being even close to being the best pokemon.Omega Tyrant   02:01, April 21, 2010 (UTC)

Falcon Punch vs. Warlock Punch

You all knew this was coming. Captain Falcon pulled a manly and quick win in Round 47, but now, whose epic punch will win? We've all seen them parodied, meme-fied, and given epic combos/moments throughout the Smash community and YouTube, but now it's ultimately up to the SA to decide which is better. --HavocReaper'48 02:54, April 25, 2010 (UTC)

Green Hill Zone vs 75m

Sonic and Mario have been good rivals since they debut and even fought before in the Smash Arena, with Mario being the winner. This time, the game stages they debuted in are going to fight. Which stage will win, Green Hill Zone, which started the Sonic Franchise and has the deadly signpost, or 75M, (which tecnically isn't the debut stage but is one of the levels from the game) which started the Mario Franchise and has Donkey Kong?--Megatron1 (talk) 14:01, April 25, 2010 (UTC)

Lugia (SSBM) vs. Kyogre (SSBB)

Lugia was arguably the best pokemon in Melee, being capable of OHKOing anything with its aeroblast. Even simply touching it could KO at shockingly low percentages. Kyogre is arguably the best pokemon in Brawl, being much more than just a bigger water gun. It relentlessly follows and hydro pumps the opponent away until they are dead. If Kyogre locks on to you, even if you're Meta Knight, you're basically dead unless you are playing in a ridiculously large stage. Both pokemon have the ability to KO anyone at 0% and they are even capable of KOing the same opponent twice. But who will go down in Smash Bros. history as the greatest pokeball pokemon of all time? Omega Tyrant   15:46, April 26, 2010 (UTC)

  1. Both are legendary mascots of their games, respectively, and both have aquatic abilities that include swimming and Hydro Pump. I like this idea. Oh, and Lugia (SSBB)*. BNK [E|T|C] 22:12, April 26, 2010 (UTC)

  2. Sorry, but Kyogre (the whale one, right?) never seemed to damage me much. It's pretty easy to dodge, at least for me. I've never played melee, but I'm guessing Lugia is much more powerful there. 98.111.95.78 00:02, April 27, 2010 (UTC)

Comment

  • It is specifically Lugia from Melee since Lugia was nerfed in every aspect in Brawl and this is supposed to be a battle between the best pokeball pokemon of their respective games. Omega Tyrant   22:51, April 26, 2010 (UTC)
    • But that throws everything off balance. :( BNK [E|T|C] 22:55, April 26, 2010 (UTC)
      • And how is that? We could use more Melee vs. Brawl matchups. Omega Tyrant   23:22, April 26, 2010 (UTC)
        • Lugia is in Brawl! BNK [E|T|C] 23:49, April 26, 2010 (UTC)
          • I know that, but this is a Melee vs. Brawl matchup. In my opinion, Lugia was the best pokemon in Melee and Kyogre is the best pokemon in Brawl. Therefore, this is a matchup to see who was the best pokeball pokemon in the SSB series. Omega Tyrant   00:02, April 27, 2010 (UTC)

Peach vs. Bowser

Peach, sick of being kidnapped all the time by an oversized turtle, has stepped up to the arena. Will the parasol-weilding princess pull through, or will Mario have to take her home in a plastic baggie this time?

Bowser vs. King Dedede

One is known as the King of Koopas, the other is known as the King of Dreamland. Both kings command massive armies of ineffective minions. Both kings are greedy and out of shape. Both kings are not always serious and sometimes play more of a comedic role rather than a villainous one. Both kings also have forward smashes of extreme power, which were also each the strongest smash attack in Smash Brothers at one time (Bowser in Melee, King Dedede in Brawl). But which king is superior and have the king of forward smashes; is it the fire breathing mutated koopa or the jolly hammer wielding penguin? Omega Tyrant   21:03, May 11, 2010 (UTC)
