Representation of names of character

well somebody like the full name of some characters, like Samus Aran and so on. But since the titles in the games just denote them as Samus, Fox, I think we should stick to the names used in the character selections. The name Princess Peach seems unfit for the page, And you definitely wouldn't call Zamus Zero Suit Samus Aran ^_^ So its a bit better if just we leave the full names to the detail discriptioins~

Agree ??

Non-Playable Characters in Brawl

As only the ATs and the Pokeballs are confirmed as non-playable characters, shouldn't the others in there not be added until we have complete confirmation? There's still a lot of speculation going on with them, esecially the AC characters, and although we have evidence that they may not be playable, it is by no means confirmed.

spike

alright I didnt want to go to all of their pages but after some recearch I found that all down aerials have some sorta spikeing propretys and I thought that I would go through after hearing from some others (the only one that I found that didnt have spike props was Link cause his dair doesnt do anything like one)

Character Artwork

I was going through the Super Smash Bros. and Super Smash Bros. Melee character articles, and noticed, they don't have official artwork. I have ALL the character artwork from both Super Smash Bros. and the sequel, so, I can upload them. However, in case those other Images are there for a reason, I wanted to check here first if it was OK. - Pokemon DP

I think all that artwork would be great in the fighter articles to use in the templates. The other images are there to show how they actually look in gameplay, which can be pretty different from the artwork (like Melee Bowser), so it'd make sense to move them all down lower in each article so that there's two images per fighter page. Erik the Appreciator 13:46, September 13, 2007 (EDT)
I finished uploading all the Character Artwork. Er, but, I don't know where to put the other Images you already have on those articles, so I'll leave it up to you on what to do with those other Images. I also have all the Super Smash Bros. artwork of the items as well. However, I don't have the Super Smash Bros. Melee item artwork yet. - Pokemon DP

Hidden Characters

I know anything is possible, but if I know Nintendo, they won't reveal hidden characters until the game is out. In other words, the characters they're revealing will probably be starter characters. I mean, they haven't mentioned Snake ever since they said he'd be hidden.

--ShadowZeroKaras 00:26, September 15, 2007 (EDT)

article talk pages aren't for general discussion. FyreNWater 02:27, September 15, 2007 (EDT)

I meant, that we should mark the characters in Brawl that have been reveled on the site, except for Snake, as starters, until proven otherwise. And If they we're starters in the last two games, they're guaranteed as starters again. As you probably noticed, Nintendo is not one for removing previous starter characters from thier roster, but they do add characters instead.

--ShadowZeroKaras 02:42, September 15, 2007 (EDT)

It still pointless speculation. It does not belong on the articles. - Pokemon DP

"#251-260: Sakurai will make Snake (and all other guest, i.e. 3rd party, characters) into an unlockable character. Sakurai will also eventually reveal all the secret characters (most likely what he did when melee was released: give details on a single starting character every week until release, then after release, give details on one secret character every week until they've all been done)." - EPX2 11:55, October 13, 2007 (EDT)

Next 3rd Party?

If there is going to be another 3rd party character, who will he/she be?

I think Bomberman is the best recruit. Hudson's affiliations with the Mario Party series and the fact that Bomberman has been featured with Wario in Wario Blast will increase his chances of joining. Cyrus Falcon 22:32, November 28, 2007 (EST)

I don't know, but remember: talk pages for articles aren't really meant for general discussion of the game. You have a whole set of forums for that. :P User:EPX2/sig 19:34, November 29, 2007 (EST)

Melee Non-playable characters.

Goomba, Koopa Troopa, Koopa Paratroopa, Like Like, Octorok, ReDead, Topi, and Polar Bear should be off the non-playable characters list because they are just item enemies and don't have % Boxes like the other non-playable characters. Besides, Brawl's Subspace Emissary will have a ton of enemies like them and I highly doubt we'll put them in here. So can you please consider of giving them a new page?

I removed The Acient Minister from the list of non-playble charictors, as he has been confirmed to be the one playable ROB.

i agree. i started taking out obviously fake ones, but i realized that most have no backing at all. there are a few that have evidence (like Pra & Mai, Snake in SSBM, etc.) that have coding or dropped plans, but everything else is arguable. i think they need to be removed altogether. Dedede intended for Melee?

FlameMaster added that Dedede was intended for Melee, which I remember hearing about before, though I don't know if it's actually true. As such, can someone provide an official source or other hard evidence that supports Dedede having been intended for Melee? Or is this just another one of those rumors like Peach/Pit/Meowth in Smash 64? Omega Tyrant   15:00, 23 December 2013 (EST)

Bump. Omega Tyrant   11:11, 26 December 2013 (EST)

Excessive notes

We don't need notes about who was intended for certain games in their development or which characters didn't exist yet on this page. This information is covered in more appropriate places on the wiki, but here it's just unnecessary clutter in what should be a very streamlined chart. Miles (talk) 13:19, 26 December 2013 (EST)

This is most certainly an appropriate place for the information; the chart is to show a quick visualisation of character's playable status in each game, and information about them being intended to be playable is most certainly relevant to that. It additionally puts it in one place of who were intended to be in each game (when it is otherwise scattered across multiple pages). And all it adds is a word underneath an icon, the chart remains "very streamlined" with it. Omega Tyrant   20:30, 26 December 2013 (EST)
I think "intended" can be relevant, but I don't think "in development" or "nonexistent" are. We don't need to make the distinction between "character that could have been in" and "character that didn't exist at the time". Toomai Glittershine   The Brazen 21:03, 26 December 2013 (EST)
Yeah I'm borderline on those and won't argue for them to be on the chart. Omega Tyrant   21:22, 26 December 2013 (EST)
But do we need the word intended? As text, it stands out from those head icons and you can read about the characters being intended in their general articles. Don't think we really need behind the scenes info. SeanWheeler (talk) 18:44, 12 January 2014 (EST)

Snake

Wasn't it confirmed somewhere that Kojima desperately wanted Snake to be in Melee, but Sakurai left him out due to time constraints? Wouldn't that make it plausible for Snake to be listed as "intended" under Melee?

According to the Snake article, that's an unconfirmed rumour, but if it has been confirmed somewhere then youre right. FirstaLasto 18:43, 24 February 2014 (EST)

Villager

Considering that Sakurai essentially confirmed that Villager was going to be Brawl, shouldn't he be marked for 'Intended' for Brawl? - The12thGripper (talk) 20:42, 11 March 2014 (EDT)

Ivysaur, Squirtle

Why are Ivysaur and Squirtle at the page? Charizard is okay, but the Pokémon Trainer is on the page, so what is the reason for Squirtle and Ivysaur at the page?

Did you not see the asterisks next to all 3 of their names? If you scroll, you will clearly see "*As part of Pokémon Trainer." There's no reason to change that. PokemonMasterJamal3 (talk) 04:13, 9 April 2014 (EDT)

Dr. Mario

Dr. Mario was found in the unused data for Brawl as well. Why do Mewtwo and Roy receive special notice as intended for Brawl yet Dr. Mario is left unmentioned? (71.106.48.155 19:52, 21 April 2014 (EDT))

You know what, I don't think "intended characters" are notable here. That's only notable for trivia pages. Otherwise we'd be putting asterisks everywhere. SeanWheeler (talk) 20:08, 21 April 2014 (EDT)
@IP: Dr. Mario doesn't have the other unused data Mewtwo and Roy have.
@Sean: Don't ignore previous talk page conversations and go against stuff already agreed to, and don't exaggerate, there are clearly not "asterisks everywhere", nor is there any problem with the asterisks themselves. Omega Tyrant   10:29, 22 April 2014 (EDT)
@Tyranitar: Literally the only thing Mewtwo and Roy have over Dr. Mario is:
-A victory theme file. Though considering file snd_bgm_Z40 is missing in the data while Z39 is Roy and Z41 is Toon Link, that would mean the missing Z40 file is Dr. Mario due to the Instance Slot Data. Also, Wolf, who is actually a functioning character in the final release, is missing his victory theme file as well, which would be Z44 given the Instance Slot Data.
-A Wii Remote character select sound, though only Mewtwo has one, not Roy. 71.106.48.155 18:28, 25 April 2014 (EDT)
That is a significant amount of more data, especially when everyone's but MK's victory theme got scrapped. Additionally with Doc, considering he was a straight clone of Mario and literally Mario in doctor garb, there's a very strong possibility that he was just imported data or was intended to be an alt costume. With Doc, I don't think we can say he was likely intended, when he lacks what Mewtwo and Roy have, while having so many potential answers about why he has that one empty file. Omega Tyrant   19:51, 25 April 2014 (EDT)
Again, Wolf is missing a file for a victory theme as well. On that stance, Dr. Mario shouldn't be brushed off simply because his is missing.
Also, what you just said is nothing but speculation formulated from no evidence whatsoever other than personal viewpoint of the character. On top of that, it is highly illogical. For what purpose would Sakurai have to simply "import" Melee data for Dr. Mario and not import any data from Pichu or Young Link if the data wasn't to be SERIOUSLY used? And if Dr. Mario was meant to just be a costume, WHY would Dr. Mario have his own character file and Instance Slot Data (http://opensa.dantarion.com/wiki/Instance_Slots)? Wario doesn't have separate character files for his two outfits, and it doesn't take a separate character file for any aesthetic changes between costumes as Project: M shows.
Furthermore, Sakurai expressed disliking of the concept of Dr. Mario being a costume before Melee's release; for what reason would he make Dr. Mario a costume with absolutely no differences from Mario other than aesthetics in the following game after already incorporating Dr. Mario as a separate character with his gameplay changes? Because he was a "straight up clone"? So was Falco, and that didn't stop him. Oh, but Falco's not "literally Fox" like Dr. Mario is "literally Mario"? And that's supposed to play into why he wouldn't come back, when Sakurai brought in Toon Link and had Toon Zelda/Sheik in the plans, who are/would have been straight up clones (the ONLY reason for Toon Link having some different moves being because his legs are too short for kicks) AND "literally Link and Zelda/Sheik" in an alternate state? Give me a break. 72.87.198.105 16:33, 29 April 2014 (EDT)
I think I'd have to agree with the IP. There isn't any evidence that Dr. Mario was planned on being a costume. Pretty much everything he said sums up my opinion. ChuckNorris  17:22, 29 April 2014 (EDT)

Intended characters

Sakurai did confirm during the E3 Digital Event that Miis were intended as Playable characters in Brawl. Pac-Man was also considered according to an interview with the Weekly Famitsu. Source : http://kotaku.com/pac-man-almost-got-into-super-smash-bros-brawl-1599610742

The Polygon Team, Wire Frames, and Alloys have been confirmed to not return.

In the e3 2014 trailer for SSB4, it was shown very briefly that the Mii Fighters are the ones you fight in Multi Man Mode in SSB4. That means the other Fighting Teams won't return. Please put an X in the SSB4 column for them. (Garridk (talk) 22:20, 13 August 2014 (EDT))

"Intended" icon

Whoops. Guess I jumped the gun by utilising the   icon. So, what does everyone think? I find that the current (Intended) marking is too eye-catching for something that is not that significant. I made the icon based on  , and tried to keep it as subtle as possible. It uses grey colourx, some transparency, and a neutral font. I have the PSD if anyone thinks there's room for improvement. --Ash_Pokemaster (talk) 01:36, 18 September 2014 (EDT)

I think the original version of the file was better because it was easier to see; the current one blends in with the table too much. --Skittles (talk)

Mii Fighter Seperation

I think that the Mii Fighter should be split into 3 different sections for each class rather than occupy the same row. They are all unique characters and all have unique movesets so why stick them together? Zm123bro (talk) 12:40, 2 October 2014 (EDT)

The logic in the current arrangement is that despite the three variant movesets, they share a single character select screen icon and share a single page on the official website. It's definitely open to debate, though. Miles (talk) 13:04, 2 October 2014 (EDT)
I understand your point, but both of these statements also apply to Pokemon Trainer, and he has Squirtle, Ivysaur, and Charizard (even before Char was announced for Sm4sh) as seperate rows. Zm123bro (talk) 16:20, 2 October 2014 (EDT)
The difference is that now Charizard as well as Sheik/ZSS are standalone characters, and in the interest of treating them equivalently the rows have to be divided. The Miis are treated as one unit in some contexts and three in others. I personally think the current layout is a good compromise. Miles (talk) 17:16, 2 October 2014 (EDT)

You guys are missing a lot of intended characters

The title says it all. A lot of characters listed here were intended for other smash games but didn't make the cut have not ben listed. here is a complete list so you can add them. In addition, i've included characters that havent been playable yet but were still intended.

  • Meowth
  • Pit

Melee

  • Snake
  • Sonic
  • Excite Biker
  • Bubbles (Clu Clu Land)
  • Urban Champion
  • Balloon Fighter
  • Pit

Brawl

  • Plusle & Minun
  • Toon Zelda/Toon Sheik
  • Mii Fighters
  • Mega Man
  • Pac-Man
  • Villager
  • Dixie Kong

Also, King Dedede being planned for Melee was just a rumor. All these characters need to be added to the list. 106.68.147.50

While, yes, that is notable, they don't need to be on the list. Let's take Meowth as an example. He was (supposedly) planned to be in Smash ONE time. Tell me, is that notable? Aidan the Gamer 08:38, 6 October 2014 (EDT)
A lot of these have been disproven (Meowth, Plusle/Minun), as well. PikaSamus (talk)   10:05, 6 October 2014 (EDT)
King Dedede wasn't a rumor, Sakurai stated he intended him in an official interview with Famitsu. Most of these other ones are rumors or characters that were CONSIDERED, which doesn't mean they were intended. Dixie, Plusle/Minun (Which no, has not been disproven), and Toon Zelda/Sheik are not listed because they have not appeared as characters in the series yet, thusly they are not listed. As for Melee Snake, he was never intended, he was intended for Brawl by request of Kojima. Laikue (talk|contribs) 15:07, 6 October 2014 (EDT)
Actually, Snake suffered the same fate as Sonic in Melee. Kojima did request for Snake to be in Melee, but, like Sonic, he wasn't included due to time constraints. Aidan the Gamer 16:57, 6 October 2014 (EDT)
Considered and intended are the same thing 106.68.147.50
Uh…no, they're not. Considered means they thought of the idea, but they never actually brought the idea to life. Intended means that they appeared in the game somehow, but got dropped before the full game came out. Aidan the Gamer 20:37, 6 October 2014 (EDT)
Pit, Sonic, and Snake were intended for Melee. So add them. Villager, Mii, and Pac-Man were hardly even considered for brawl. Pit in SSB is just a rumor as of right now. The remaining characters don't belong on this table at all because they've only ever been intended. ...a new Nutta is approaching... 22:01, 6 October 2014 (EDT)

See this is why I don't think we should list "intended" in this table at all. It's such a dubious subject that's often impossible to prove either way. Besides, we have Template:CharacterTable that is supposed to be replacing the current table. Toomai Glittershine   The Cloronic 22:04, 6 October 2014 (EDT)

Maybe not on this page/in this table, but somewhere (like maybe its own page?) And that page/table could list Bubbles, Excite Biker, Balloon Fighter, etc. ...a new Nutta is approaching...
If a definitive source can be provided, I don't see a problem with "Intended". However, all of the above users have not included a source with their claims, hence why they shouldn't be included.
--- Monsieur Crow, Author Extraordinaire, 22:10, 6 October 2014 (EDT)
@Lakie: Mewtwo uses the official romanization in its Brawl files, while "pra_mai" does not (the official ones for Plusle and Minun are Plusle and Minun, respectively). PikaSamus (talk)   22:14, 6 October 2014 (EDT)
Evidence: Pit and Sonic are acknowledged on this wiki, so that means they don't need proof because they already have it. Snake is acknowledged as rumor on his page, but I think I have proof- I just don't know where. Villager, Mii, and Pac-Man are also mentioned on their pages, but were basically shot down immediately. Pit is a rumor according to this Wiki, and I don't really need any evidence for Bubbles, Balloon Fighter, Dixie Kong, etc. not being in any game. ...a new Nutta is approaching... 22:18, 6 October 2014 (EDT)
That, and Pit's Melee trophy curiously asks, "Will Pit ever fight again?" I dunno...it might hint at him in Brawl, it might hint at him being considered/intended to be in Melee. Who knows. Aidan the Gamer 22:24, 6 October 2014 (EDT)
@PikaSamus people think "pra_mai" = Plusle and Minun because their Japanese names are Prasule and Mainun, respectively. Aidan the Gamer 22:28, 6 October 2014 (EDT)
@Aidanzapunk: Mewtwo isn't listed as Myuutuu in the files. Mewtwo is the official romanization. Prasule and Mainun are not. PikaSamus (talk)   13:07, 7 October 2014 (EDT)

Split suggestion

Should we maybe split this into Intended characters? It would list characters who were intended in every game (including characters like Ice Climbers, Dr. Mario, and Mewtwo, who have been proven intended for SSB4 and/or SSBB). That would also be a nice way to mention all of the retro characters considered for Melee. Thoughts? ...a new Nutta is approaching... 22:37, 6 October 2014 (EDT)

No no no no no no no no no no. This page isn't worth splitting, and your proposal is certainly not worth an article. Toomai Glittershine   The Undirigible 22:40, 6 October 2014 (EDT)
I honestly think it's a fine idea. If we move the characters over to the other page, then we can replace the table on this page with the new one. Also, you could have a decent sized article on this topic. It definitely wouldn't be a stub or an incomplete page, but it would have some notable information on it. Plus, we could use a place to put all this info we're arguing about. Aidan the Gamer 22:42, 6 October 2014 (EDT)
Horrible idea. There are 6 or 7 characters who are listed as intended (correct me if I'm wrong), and it's handled by a few side notes below the tables. We don't need to split up the page for what could be handled by a few asterisks. Qwerty (talk) 22:52, 6 October 2014 (EDT)
If DYKG can cover it in part of a video, we can cover it here too. Now, I'm not going to be going around telling people what to do. I'm just saying what I normally say in any situation: if you have the opportunity, take it. Aidan the Gamer 22:59, 6 October 2014 (EDT)

Oppose, per Qwerty. In addition, "Intended" characters can have a trivia point or a section, and "scrapped" characters can have a section or a spot on our Beta elements series of articles.

--- Monsieur Crow, Author Extraordinaire, 23:04, 6 October 2014 (EDT)

The "intended" characters, even with extensive citations and sources, are still questionable in terms of their relevance outside individual pages like Ice Climbers, Mewtwo, etc. Definitely not worthy of a full page on the subject. Miles (talk) 00:26, 7 October 2014 (EDT)

Support splitting intended characters into a new page. There are so many intended characters (that this wiki doesn't bother to list) that it would fill a whole page. If i had an account, i would help make it. 106.68.147.50

Make one!Littlesquirtle, an average user who honestly doesn't care. At all. (talk) 13:40, 7 October 2014 (EDT)

There aren't really many intended characters, so a page may be out of the question. But we need a specific somewhere for just intended characters. (On the other hand there are SOME people agreeing so I'm not going to withdraw my proposal to split...) ...a new Nutta is approaching... 14:49, 7 October 2014 (EDT)

Strong oppose. I don't even see the need to have the intended thing on our current list. The intended characters are likely to be in the beta pages, anyway. PikaSamus (talk)   15:46, 7 October 2014 (EDT)
Strong Oppose. There's a reason why we have this page and trivia sections. Things like intended characters should go either here (or its subpages) or in the trivia. Rtzxy   Smashing! 20:07, 7 October 2014 (EDT)
On another note, this page needs archiving. I'll do it once this conversation dies down (if it hasn't already). Rtzxy   Smashing! 20:13, 7 October 2014 (EDT)
